when I downloaded and activated this it opened and asked for a registration code/key to change it from being a trial version, but there wasn't a code in the readme file. Any help?

Hi, all

There is another software that is from E-Book Systems and it is called Flip Album Standard.

Although the names seem similar, it is a totaly different software from this giveway Flip Album by Flip PDF Studio.

It can be gotten FREE strictly for non-commercial use only.

http://www.flipalbum.com/fahome/

As far as I can tell, the features and user interface of e-Book Systems Flip Album, are better than the Flip Album by Flip PDF Studio.

I downloaded and tried this. As a professional photographer (who does indeed make money on taking pictures), this is rather useless. The only time I could even think of this to be useful, would be if I was making a slideshow for the kids in my family. But even then I have better slideshow makers than this.

Fun to play with, but overall, not really useful. OK to keep around if you don't have any other program that does the same thing.

Ok Well laid out and functional, but would work better if all commands were in one location, eg mask disable you have to right click on image for menu were all other options are in the mask menu... this is repeated for a number of commands.

1) Drag and Drop is a must.
2) Setting of Preferences would be great
3) Simple photo editing would be a good option rather than going to external software and pre editing your images.
4) Allow selection of more than one image to drop onto the work areas.

Worth spending a bit of time with as it does the job well

Un-installed.

Simply much to annoying to use:

Lacks the ability to import many photos at once, it doesn't even allow you to hold to the control key in order to select an number of images.

It puts that tacky mask over every single new photo you add by default, and you have to remove the tacky mask from every single photo.

The long vertical animated slide out menu you have to use to add photos, text etc. is highly annoying.

It pegged my CPU and the images I was adding were small and already optimized for the web..they were not high res photos. Even adding a line of text pegged the CPU even more.

Personally I love the idea of flip books, but have yet to find one that does what I'd like. My major gripe is that every one I've tried puts the 'book' upon an interface...the interface can be sized to what you want, but the book itself has to be made to fit.

I'd love to see *just a flipping book* that I could size to my liking with no interface attached to it.

@Venus #8, and Denise #35
Run Setup.exe to install, then with the program closed, run Activate.exe. When you run the program it will be registered.

@Sheldon Aubut #25
The "Import Themes" button shows up after you click the "Publish" button.
You can change or delete the mask.

^^Denise - It doesn't sound like you ran the activate exe file? Close out of the program and run that file? There wasn't a need for a reg code - that file took care of reg for me. Under About, it says 'your purchased license code is xxxxx" (it's half cut off, so I can't read it).

I will have to play around with it again tomorrow - but the published flipbook is much smaller than the project I was working on? Was there a size option somewhere that I missed? The pages were nice and large in the create area, but came out half as small in the finished project?

Thanks GAOTD for all the offerings you bring us ~ Happy Holidays!

Installation went well, the program started & I began a new project. I put together 2 pages each containing 1 photo & 1 line of text using the standard mask. All seemed well until I clicked "Publish". This opens a new window that I can only suppose is used to tweak the final output settings. In this window is an "Import Themes" button which goes out to my Documents folder, ostensibly to look for saved themes. There is a panel on the left where one can adjust various settings, and a main window on the right to view (?) the new Flip Book. I'm assuming this as it is currently only displaying a circular icon indicating that something is loading. I tried saving the Flip Book to view it using the "Convert to Flipping Book" button, to no avail.
In the window where one can add photos, etc., there is no support for drag & drop. There are some clip art & frames provided, but there is no way to keep both the clip art & frames sub-windows open at the same time, it's one or the other. They also don't stay where you put them from on instance to the next. If I move the clip art to the left, open the frames (which closes the clip art), & re-open the clip art, it is put back into its default location (at the bottom). There is no way to adjust the work space. In PDF, I can move the left column over, making it narrower, and the resulting pages shrink & move accordingly - I like that. I can't put my tools where I would like them, everything is in a standard, default location with no ability to customize.
The online help files basically deal with some ordering/license issues & very little else. I can't find any kind of help file that will assist me or help me use the program.
Clicking "Get More Themes" takes you to FlipBuilder.com. I don't know if they are associated with this company or not, but they want $79 for 4 new "templates". That seems a bit steep to me.
Basically I think I hate this program & I'm going with everyone else & voting no. This isn't at all what I remember Flip Album to be. Actually applying the photos to the pages isn't too difficult, but features which seem standard in programs now is definitely lacking. Since I'm at an impasse in regards to publishing, I can't see any point in using this program further. Overall, this isn't anything like the program I remember. I recommend skipping this.

Has a disconcerting habit of flashing + scrolling the vertical menu bar from left to right for about 5 seconds every time you try to issue a command.
As if the software was trying to re-read the hard disk directory.
Or re-load some part of the program.

So if you use the program for 1 hour you may see the vertical menu bar flashing hundreds of times. This is crazy.

This may cause users to eventually want to uninstall it.

Not a pro-level software.

It tries too hard on the On-Line publishing aspect.

For an idea of a Pro-level product - look at Pro Show Gold.

The idea behind this program is that it allows your photos to be displayed in a way that resembles flipping through a photo album. Yes, there are other programs that let you display your pictures in sequence, but not all of them have the 'flipping' feature. Sadly, this program is an inadequate knockoff of another program, which was actually the first to do the page-flipping thing, called FlipAlbum. Do not confuse this program with that one, which I think is called "Flip Album" (2 words instead of 1) in order to make people think they are actually getting the original. You're not.

As others have mentioned, this program has interface problems, it's very unintuitive to use, and I would add that the page animations (if they can be called that) are very cheesy compared to 'FlipAlbum' (1 word instead of 2), which produces much smoother, more realistic animations.

I'm going to remove this turkey, but if you really want a good page-flipping photo sequencer, try FlipAlbum. If nothing else, there is a version of that program that's FREE so you can see how you like it, though there is a paid version with more features. Either of them knock this loser right out of the box.

Maybe one of the other, higher priced, versions of this program (there are several) fare better, but if this version is any indication, I'm not sure I want to even try any of the others.

This is a fine free progam that works great! Good price point for the porduct and it has some thoughtful and well layedout feature that the develpers had the sence to ancorporate into the overall design. This could turn out to be a good favorited item. I like the fact that it can be exparded to output which makes the progrom qiute deal for modern appycations and subsctucture. $49 sounds like a fine suggested retail, though at $69 it wuold also sell well through the sell through at POP because of the fine features of the produt that can be useful for websites and photgraphs .

This software was bad. I tryed to make the first page of a photo album and it doesn't show the full dialog box for selecting a color of text. I couldn't re-size it either. I changed my screen resolution and it didn't change anything.

Therefore, I uninstalled it. Better luck next time.

@#32 . . . You MUST be kidding . . . right? Typos on websites and on user interfaces are a sure sign of incomplete work. Those who do not take the time to get it right before launching their product will suffer with missed sales opportunities. It's an important fact of conducting business correctly, and will ALWAYS be one. Just imagine giving a perspective employer your resume' and it contains typos. Even one typo will keep you from being hired (and I do not blame the employer one bit). Those software developers from other countries have an even greater responsibility to get it right if they are to expect to be trusted by customers across borders. Misspellings mean sloppy work. Period.

Installed on my laptop with Win7 64-bit.

Pros
- Fast, easy to edit with
- Nice cliparts
- Effects is good too, but more effects wouldn´t harm

Cons
- $49 for this program is $25 too much
- Some bugs here and there (not a good start)
- The SWF isn´t a solo flie, but all the pictures in folder

Conclusion
The cliparts is in a very high quality, but are they free to use ? I would be worried to put those clipart on my website !
Overall a good program, but not to the price of $49 which I think is too much !

Guys stop complaining about spelling. This S/W is being offered for free. They spend so much time to get it to you. Seriously, can you even write one good sentence in Russian or German, forget about spelling. If you don't like it don't download it. That's it.

@28 I believe the reason for so many different registering methods is due to the fact that the different software developers register their products differently. Such as some use the serial, some use a registry entry, therefore forcing GOTD to use the activate.exe. I know entering the serial is the easiest for us, but does not offer any copy protection for the developer, because it is not very hard to figure out how to save the giveaways to be opened later.

Are we beta testing this?! With the exception of the link provided in the description here, I can't find the product on their site. Granted, I'm just starting my fourth cup of coffee, and I need six before I'm good to go, but it seems the only thing listed under products is various incarnations of FlipPDF, and clicking More Products takes me back to that. The closest thing I've found is FlipPhoto, which is under freeware.

Between that, the lack of included help file, the lack of version number in the program, and the various bugs, I'm just not feeling stable release warm fuzzies, so I had to ask. If this IS a beta, and it's not being presented as such, my respect for the company just took a major hit (which is sad because FlipPDF looks cool).

- Not being able to drag and drop photos is annoying. When I opened the file selection box to choose a photo, it took me to /Windows/System32. There are far more logical places to point to.

- When I click outline, more often than not, it adds an additional outline of top of the one I've selected and applied. Not always, but often enough to make me gnash my teeth. Ooh, fun. Instead of applying an additional, unselected outline this time, the program took it upon itself to resize the picture I'd "enlarged". I have carpal tunnel AND super shaky hands, and sometimes, getting things just the way I want them takes an insane amount of effort. I'd be really mad if I'd paid for this, and was trying to do something serious with it, and the program took it upon itself to resize my image w/o a warning or confirmation first.

Uhm. There was something else, but I forget. I'd poke around to rediscover it, but it just crashed with a message about an access violation. Whee.

#8, I, also missed out on the face-fixing software because I could not access the site- it was the only site I could not access that day, so I don't think it was my browser. I tried a number of times that day- very discouraging. And the response to problems is so slow that if you have one, you miss out- too bad for you. Once in a great while there will be a company who addresses problems all through the day. That's what's needed on a more frequent basis. Don't worry, I expect a big negative on expressing these views.

So far I only tried it to make a book for a web page. It spit out the html code and it worked fine. However, the html code is for a complete page on it's own. I would like the html code to embed this into my existing webpage, but I don't see an option for this. I think this option would be great if it was added to the program (unless I just missed it somewhere, make it easier to find).

I really think GAOTD should implement a voting system where you are required to leave a comment as to why you do or do not like a program. There are only 6 comments & 199 down votes.
I've used this software before, a long time ago, so I can't really comment on this permutation, per se. This software is not meant to simply be used to view your photos, but is instead to create a digital photo album. It is designed for people who are not capable of creating their own slide shows or photo albums. You can put a photo album on a disk that anyone not tech-savvy can simply put in a drive a run, or post it as a single standing photo album, or whatever it is this current program is supposed to accomplish. We used this to make photo albums for family members who are not much into computers & my Mom really enjoyed making albums as the program was simple enough for her to use.
The additional themes, templates, or digital decorations can cost money, but remember, you are buying someone's work. Someone took the time to create these themes, decorations, & what-have-you. I'm sure if every person who complains of not getting things for free were asked if they wanted to loose wages or work for free for strangers they will never meet, there would be an emphatic "NO!".
If you are so inclined for your own benefit or desire to work for free for others, I remember it being very easy to create your own themes and templates for this program & I remember the site providing explicit details on how to accomplish this. It was very easy to do & provided a great deal of personalization. This may have changed since I last used this, but it is something to keep in mind if you are planning on using this software. There were also many themes & templates that people created and provided for free.
I can't comment yet on how this particular version will work, but I will try to comment again after I download it & play a bit. I would recommend this program to anyone who would like to create a free-standing digital photo album that can be played by anyone. I have Power Point but given the available graphics, I wouldn't use it to create a photo album. I would use something similar to this program. I don't know of free programs that are out there, but my experience with most of them is this: there is a reason they are free.

Install was quite easy, but... there are just too many problems with the program, and their Web site. Went to the site and saw that they have a large group of free templates available for download which seemed quite impressive, until I actually downloaded one, unzipped it and read the "how-to-install.txt" file which said:

1. Run Flip PDF (Pro)
2. Click Menu: File->Import Themes, select the *.thm (themes) form open dialog box.
3. Find installed themes in Template Window ("Themes" Tab)
4. Find and select the theme you have just imported.

But if you open the program, click on "file" you will find that there is no "Import Themes" in the menu. Also on the "Resource" tab the "Flipbook Resources" gets you to a "page not found" error. I didn't bother checking all the other links on their site as just one broken link in their site menus is enough to have me doubting their professionalism. Also in the "Photo Flipbook Builder" there are broken links, such as the "more" button which gets one to "403 Forbidden" Web page.

The oval mask was disappointing, and when I tried to add a text balloon I could find no way to change the text alignment from left justified to center justified. This seems like a good software idea in theory, but in practice it appears that they have a long way to go before it is ready to be sold to the public.

With the template installation error compounding my doubts I think I'll uninstall this one, at least till they work out their kinks.

I can’t believe I’m commenting instead of shopping…I honestly expect the true 'reviewers comments' to give me not advice like 'this is great software'; I need to know what it does and if it actually does it accurately and all the glitches and maybe hidden bonus usage of the software and if there are no additional costs and if I need to activate a key before the giveaway is over and if there is freeware, yes, tell me...maybe I'll use it maybe not, but either way for today GAD it's free, so I'll download it because I trust the 'true reviewers' to tell me it's awesome or it's cr*p.
I think GAD should have at few bonus(s) to the reviewers because by 10pm I can make a valuable choice on whether or not to take my time to download it and then later try it out...because I don't have the time to try it out that ‘very day of the giveaway’ and by the time I actually get to it, I’ve probably 3 hours or less to download, activate or whatever….so yes, I seriously depend on the reviewers comments (regardless of the thumbs up or down #) to tell me what I need to know, not what I should feel about the giveaway….
Since everybody and their mother thinks they are photographers now, this kind of software is needed and I'm not saying that because my daughter and I are actual photographers, not professionals...anyways...tell me more these comments are not enough for an evaluation to chose or not to chose to download... :)

I use various forms of flip-book software, and collage making software, so am familiar with several different ones.

I have only had a quick play with this one, and haven't taken it through to creating a flip book - only the page creation / photo and other artefacts manipulation stage.

This one does seem to have a few interesting and unusual effects which aren't present in the other softwares I've used, and so is worth keeping for that alone.

It did, however, hang once and I had to end process, plus, as someone has already mentioned,I did find a couple of dead links (one that I can remember off the top of my head is the 'More' button on the frames, masks, clipart, etc menus).

However, to those who said that you cannot either pan or remove frames: you can do both. To pan / tilt, select the photo by clicking it and a green cross with arrows appears in the centre. Click and hold this to move the photo around within the frame. To remove the mask, right-click on a photo and it's one of the option on the menu that appears.

Incidentally, there are far more masks that someone else suggested (ie not just a few oval ones). What appears initially is only page 1 of 14. Look at the bottom left of the menu bar. This applies to many of the menu bars, so don't just assume that the only options available are the ones immediately visible.

Overall, definitely one I will be keeping and experimenting with some more.

I get the same result as #3 (4rtist) up loaded to my site. yes I made sure all files were uploaded, I even checked the html code to make sure it was all there and nothing. Just a screen telling me there is no file.
what a waste of time. it looks good when you are creating your project but try to put it online, fail.
uninstalled.

What would be a "practical" use for me in using this software? Putting magazines I've read up on the internet? Not sure of the practical use of this. What would make me say "I gotta have this!"?

This is the second time this week that your "Read Me" Files do not give a proper method to activate the product. I ran set-up and then Activate as instructed and nothing happened. I cannot activate the product Please answer me before the time runs out today. You did not help me with the Face product... I am still waiting

i have waited a long time for this to be at a price I could afford... free

Thank you,
Venus Ishtar

I like Flip Album, but it's not the type of software which I normally use, so I can't really compare it to similar offerings. The install was clean, but execution does create some scattered folders and temporary files. There is a PDF documentation file, but no Help. It's not my job to create Help files for developers, there's a lot to this, you have to be able to look around the UI (seriously). I'm sure that there will be endless comments from people claiming that Flip Album can't do things which it can. Some of the links in the program are broken, some of the More links go to inaccessible pages on Boxoft, and one particular help link goes to the wrong site. Additional Templates cost, but you can download additional Themes (a few are already included) per Template. There's a lot to this, you can do interesting things with photos, but you may need to crop them before adding them, as Flip Album will let you zoom them within frames and masks, but apparently not pan them.

GOTD really needs to change or eliminate the voting system. I have much more important things to do with my time, but if GOTD doesn't do something about it, I'll deal with the vote manipulator on my comments, there's nothing that I can do about other comments.

This has to be one of the buggiest software packages i've seen on GOTD.

1./ The software doesnt work on a screen with y-resolution 768. You cannot access all the toolbars and they are not scrollable. Therefore this software is useless on a laptop or smaller TFT.

2./ By default every picture has a oval mask. You can change the mask from a selection of 5 ovals, but you cannot remove the oval mask!

3./ It seems that the main focus of this program is to animate transitions between pictures. Just like powerpoint transitions... these are things that we DONT or SHOULDNT be doing by default and to every slide!

4./ The flipping book output, even in full frame, does not zoom the pictures to full screen, but surrounds them in a mask

5./ Error on output files as previous posters have mentioned

This is a really poor offering even as freeware, let alone paid software. Deleted.
