As far i know there is no pdf password remover software that can reset pdf user (open) password instantly. Even with 40bit keys it will takes 1-2 days to brute force it. I think the purpose of that feature is if you can supply the password than you can remove/reset the open password without need to have adobe acrobat/pdf editor software.

I think this program is great because:

I normaly use Microsoft word, and sometimes i choose to save the file as an .pdf file. With this program i am now able to protect that file without installing a PDF creator.

I have tried to find that feature in MS Word but cant fInd it. I am not a computerfreak, so for me, this means alot.

I am now able to change many things in the file description.

The only SMALL thing i am a little unhappy about is that it's not possible to change the PDF producent name. When i post this on my homepage, everybody can se that the PDF file was created with Simpo PDF Password Remover. - I now have to find another program, that can remove-delete this kind of advertise :-))))

I lost this when I upgraded to Win 7. I almost bought it. Thanks for helping me put off buying it for a while. I enjoy opening PDF's without having to find the text with the password and then copy and paste. I have no idea why PDF's are password protected in the 1st place. If they are offered to me, why would I need to go through a hassle to read them?

I think some points should be cleared about this software.

A PDF document may be secured in 2 different ways by its creator:
A "User password" restricts the opening of the document.
An "Owner password" restricts the user of the document (that had already opened it with the user password) from printing, editing, modifying, etc the document.

So, what this software is supposed to do.
It removes the user password after you enter it first. That means you won't have to enter this password again every time you reopen the document. You don't have to remember any password.

When you open the PDF document, you may modify it or print it because Simpo has removed the these restrictions.

I had some newsletter pdfs with password protection that prevent me from copying or highlighting text, which is really annoying. I ran some thru the Simpo PDF Password Remover, and it took the passwords out so that I can now make changes to the file. The software does what it says it will to. Thanks Simpo!

If a pdf has 3rd party certificate encryption, or requires a password just to open the pdf, you're pretty much SOL, and no software will help you except 'brute force' approaches, which can take days, weeks, or never work.

This is a useful tool, after removing restrictions, I could copy contents I need to quote from PDF files now.

I just tried it with several locked documents. It converted them fine, without my needing to know the password, which is actually what I expected for this kind of utility. I definitely will use it for filling out forms; government forms, employment forms, etc. My handwriting has gotten pretty bad, so this is definitely a good product for me!

There's an alternative to this software that is free in case you lose this software. Open the password protected PDF file in your favorite pdf reader, print to bullzip PDF printer. Done.

This is actually useful:

1. If someone provides you with a password-protected PDF file that requires you to enter a password which they supply, this will make it so you never have to enter that password again.

2. This also removes restrictions placed on the file. Some PDF files can't be modified and then saved again, or even printed. This removes those limitations.

BTW, I've bought some PDF books that require me to enter a supplied password each time I open the file. Very annoying. So this solves that, and of course allows me to print them if I so choose.

Regarding the debate about the name and description, this program actually does what its name implies. It REMOVES *supplied* passwords and restrictions relative to those passwords. Some people may be expecting this to also be a PASSWORD BREAKER/DECRYPTER, which it is not (although there are such programs available, most notably from companies such as Elcomsoft).

In any event, I'd recommend grabbing and installing this in case you might find it useful in the future.

I'm not really sure why there are so many people complaining about this software. If you don't want it don't download it. I on the other hand have been looking for a program like this for a while. My work emails PDF paystubs to me every 2 weeks which are password protected. I don't want to enter a password everytime I open them again. I can use this very easy small program to now save them to my hard drive without the password for future use. Thanks Simpo and GAOTD!!!

I almost didn't try this one but since I always dress up fancy pdfs with my own passwords, I thought I'd see how this handled it. Installed, registered fine on WinXP SP2. Worked on my pdf that was set to only allow viewing and printing, including accessibility requirements. Unlocked to allow everything. I was glad to see that it just removed the password and did not reveal it. I always protect order forms and docs I put online for download with an auto-genned password. Yes, I know darn well that if someone wants to unlock it they can, but I lock my house and car anyway and I'll do the same with pdf files.

One thing I noticed that might be a significant issue for some is that when adding a password, the choices are printing, changing, and/or copy/extract. I use Acrobat 8 to add passwords in 5.0+ compatibility, and it also has a checkbox for allowing text access for screen readers even when you restrict edit or print. I've always had users with screen readers so it's something I have to consider.

This software, while adequate, pressed several of my pet peeve buttons so I could never justify paying for it. I wanna rant and maybe these comments can be helpful to a developer or two out there.

I do not like software that requires I be online to read the help file. I live in a rural area and don't have satellite internet. No always-on here, just dial-up. If you don't want to make a help file for the specific operating system, fine. Make a local set of html files I can use. I understand the desire to keep it up to date, so make updates available for download by licensed users. And it should be comprehensive documentation if I'm going to pay for the software. I can say that because I spent years writing software documentation and that step is always helpful to the developer -- just writing things down can reveal problems and confusions. Besides, if I had to suffer through it, everyone else should too. :-)

If one more program creates a "My ..." folder in the root of My Documents I think I'm going to ... I dunno but it makes me mad. That whole My This and My That is one of the many reasons I don't consider Windows a real computer. Sheesh, what's wrong with USER/Initials/data anyway? So I screamed that out loud last night and then this software leaves off the "My" -- and I get "PDF Password Remover Output" right under My Documents every stinking time it launches. No! No! No! Not what I meant! For pete's sake, let me call it what I want and put it where I want it to go, and make.it.stick okay? So now I'm stuck deleting yet another unwanted folder after every use of the program. And I'm stuck remembering to delete the folder even though I just deleted it the last time. And I have to change the output destination every time because it keeps wanting to go back to the original spot-where-I-didn't-want-it-to-be. And then on top of all that, it just uses the same file name without asking, which is a whole 'nother rant. AARRGGHH!

Finally, user interface. If you're going to use a non-standard interface with icons and no text, please use tooltips okay? I shouldn't have to click on something to find out what it is -- and users shouldn't be encouraged to get in that habit or someone will do some serious damage someday. I know that requires a little extra programming when multiple languages are involved, but hey, you're asking for money for this, right?

Doubted this app but tried it on a government form that would not allow me to save the info into the document.
I would have had to print it out and fill it by hand!

Passed the form pdf through this and yesssss i could fill it out and save the info into the pdf file.

That way I could continue filling out the form at my discretion and print it at my discretion!!!

This will come in handy. I need to remove password from on 4 Mbit PDF document. Will give this a try. I want to add that i tried yesterday a freeware Pdf unlock software that didn't work at all. Thanks Gaotd.

Developer could have prevented all this confusion by realizing that people are instantly going to think it allows them to crack into password-protected PDF's. He could have named it something different and clearly explained what it is for and not for, in the description.

The comments on this software took me from wanting to have nothing to do with this software to actually downloading it. The reason I have found for being unable to copy and paste from a PDF document is that it does not have a text layer, or, expressed another way, it is not a "text-searchable" document. I don't believe this software does anything to change that problem. I use a PDF to Word converter to electronically scan and convert to text documents for that. I have run across many PDF documents that I can fill out online but cannot save. Perhaps this software will allow modification of the restricted use rights for those documents.

Simpo useless!! as everyone says here - if I know the password, why do I need to take space in my hard drive to set up this useless software?? I don't see the point at all!!!

Great product. Easy to use and works as advertized.

For a true unlocking app, freeware, google: "pdf unlocker" freeware. Keep the icon on your desk, and just drag/drop files concerned. Been using this for years, and it has yet to fail me.

Note: I have NOT used this on DRM type files. Rather, I typically use it to do copy/paste but the password prevents it.

You don't need such a program to send a protected PDF file to someone else, like your accountant as you said as an exemple.
For this you just "reprint" your protected file with a virtual printer like Bullzip PDF Maker giving a different password for this second file.

A great idea: remove any password on pdf and create a password that no one can decode or remove.

I believe that the way things are worded is confusing folks. When they say you need the open the file with a password first, what they actually mean is that if the file requires a password to open it to READ IT, you need to do that. Most PDFs that I've encountered only have passwords to edit/print, but NOT to simply read. So, if you have a PDF that is password locked for editing, but not for reading, you have no password to enter. The software folks could have explained that much more clearly to avoid all the confusion.

Just installed it and when the registration details were given it said invalid / wrong data and didn't register. So what is to be done now?

This program does allow you to ADD protection where there was none. I took a non-protected pdf document and added password protection using the program. It didn't seem to work the first time I tried, but the second try was successful.

I agree that the program name is misleading, maybe should be something like "PDF Password Protection Editor"

What I would really love to see is a free or low cost program that can convert a PDF file to the press-friendly PDF/X-3:2002 format from say a pdf/X-1a or other.

This software will remove restrictions from the PDF WITHOUT knowing the password. Not all security is done with a user password. My understanding is that a user password denies all access to the PDF unless it is entered.

I've used it before on my old PC. I just installed and ran it against some of my work PDFs. They are locked against text selection and copy and also against printing.
After processing, I can print and copy text. Very useful.

Installed on a Win7 Home 64 bit laptop just fine. Had a couple of PDF's I had purchased that were password protected. Ran them though the program & it removed the password so I don't have to mess around entering them now.
The program is not to illegally break passwords, it's to make it more convenient on the PDF's you own.
Program did what it was suppose to as far as I'm concerned & recommended it.

Simpo PDF Pass remover does not remove Small Business Edition (SBE) passwords.

I bought a bunch of patterns. I was horrified to see they slapped my name on the pdf file as a password. No one wants their name plastered on anything when they are on the internet. This program is the BEST EVER!!!!! thanks so much

I was looking for this exact function over the weekend because I had some files that were locked to prevent printing.
It took a couple tries to figure out what I needed to do, but it worked perfectly

OK, here's my scenario: I get a pdf, I can view it with no password but I can't print or save it to a printable form. (Several electronic things of mine have had their online manuals downloadable this way.)

I want to print these pdfs. Will this program do anything for me?

And no, mega-electronic-corporation will not give me the password so I can print out their manual.

PDF files can have multiple passwords, each with their own level of protection. As an example, password 'readonly' might allow you to view the document, but not print it, copy it etc. If you entered another password with more access, you'd then be allowed print, copy and edit the file.

It appears that this program allows you to use the basic password that only has viewing rights, and then give you more access to the file to print and edit (assuming you have a PDF editor program) that you wouldn't have had initially.

So in essense, it is a 'cracker' of sorts, provided you can at least view the PDF.

The name is deceptive, and thus the software doesn't do what (most) users want it to do.

If you know the original password, you can open pdf document and save it with a new password. You can use a regular pdf reader/writer for this. I don't see the point of using the Simpo pfd software in this case.

Core: Alternatively you could just find some way to paste, copy or duplicate the passworded pdf once you have it opened, to a pdf that doesn't have a password. There's no reasoning behind this software.

The instructions are badly written. On starting the program you are offered *the option* of entering metadata and a new password. If you leave these blank and click on 'Begin' the existing passwords are removed. I have just managed to print an encrypted PDF without any problems.

What does software will do:

This software will remove the password restriction on standard password PDF files. This software will NOT decrypt an encrypted PDF file.

What this software will NOT do:
Most PDF downloaded from e-book retailers are fully encrypted will not be convertible by this software in most cases.

The description of this software is not written well. What it means by enter a password is it will fully encrypt a PDF for you if you what to protect your PDF from this type of "password" removing software.

Remember: This software will remove password restrictions, for "password" protected PDF which are NOT encrypted.

This is a good software. One click to remove password.

This is something I have been thinking of buying for a while. I have legally purchased 20 or so EBooks from a large online publisher and it is a nuisance having to enter the password every time I want to consult them. This will save me a lot of time.

The comment about allowing you to remove the original password without knowing it is out of order. This program is for helping people like myself who paid money for the original PDF. It is not for those who want to steal EBooks.

In answer to Bigburito (1.), I think the point about this software is that it enables you to open ANY PDF's which are password protected - not just your own or the ones which you do know the password of?

For all that simply don't see the point...

The software is not for those that want to forcibly view locked pdf files. It is for those that wish to increase the protection around the pdf file so there will not be programs that would be able to forcibly unlock your pdf file.

A couple of applications for the software could be for files that contain highly personal information; SSN, birth certificate, Passport Number, credit card numbers, etc.

Neither the GAOTD team or the actual software creator needs useless feedback that could have been rectified simply by reading the description more carefully.

Bigburito:- I guess the benefit is, if in PDF document might be you do not have facility to remove the password then every time you need to enter the password to open the document like your online bank statement. So with the help of this you can remove the password after once you have entered your password first time.

If you open a pdf and enter the real password to unlock the file, can't you just use the pdf viewer to save the pdf without a password then.
You don't need some kind of a password remover to do that ?

(from its description) it appears to be a subset of PDF Creator Pro. Most probably, if you have a PDF editor you can already do this but PDF Creator Pro *is* good so I'm guessing that this probably works well, too.

I find this program quite useful in the following scenario. I get my bank statements as password protected PDF files. When I forward them to my accountant, I have to share the password with him, which compromises my security. If I can remove the password, or set a new password before sending it to him, he will never know what the original password was! You may also want to just keep the non-protected files in your PC for later viewing

If you already know/remember the password, why would you need that software in the first place?

I need something to remove the passwords I forgot.

This only works if you have the password for the PDF document, if you do, this program simply removes it!
