"PERSONALIZATION". That's why people like to have screensavers on their computers. Okay?!
Thank you to Astro Gemini for this unique soft. They are repeat contributers here at GAoTD & I appreciate their continued appearances even if I don't install all that they offer.

I don't generally use screen savers, but THANK YOU, GAOTD and software developers! I can't believe the people who don't like them giving this product a thumbs down for what is their own personal preference. I don't use them myself, but I would NEVER give a thumbs down or diss someone's product just because it's not what I'd use!

A very nice screensaver, really nice looking................
on my old computer. On my newer system, with a widescreen monitor?? Terrible. Blurred, stretched and ugly :( Various attempts to find a solution in the settings, little to no improvement at all.

Please insure proper widescreen support, it is beautiful on the other monitor, it would be nice to have the same quality experience on my main system. Also, widescreen monitors are becoming more common, in some places they are actually all that is sold there now.
You will lose business because not everyone will check it on a "regular" monitor, and will think the low quality appearance is the textures themselves rather than realizing that it is the scaling issue.
Which would be very sad, as it is a beautiful screensaver, when it is on a monitor it can scale to.

Would be nice except for the constant twitching that could give an epileptic a seizure. Unusable because of this. Uninstalled.

I really enjoyed this screensaver and plan on using it each Halloween, or when I need something fun and different. I was not expecting the sounds and got a kick out of this!! The developers did a great job! Thank you for the fun give away!!

The program installed just fine on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop. I thought the graphics to be fun, and the things swirling about were a nice thing to add. The crow is pretty realistic. I just got this computer and would rather get things from this site than just scanning the net for things. Thank you again!!

This is a prime example that shows the need of an updated rating system.
We really need a "Don't Need" or "Don't Want" rating to keep the rating systems more honest.
I will bet the majority of those who clicked "No", just don't want to use it.

Sadly after reading #4 as some family members suffer from epilepsy, and i think that not just this vendor but all vendors of programs etc would give an advisory notice on their products.

therefore i have to decline this offer this time,

thank you GOTD keep up the good work

If you don't like screen savers, then don't download it. Don't comment, either. Those having issues with running it, try turning off your security suite before installing. The same reason so many people have problems with Windows Update, and I never do. Happy Halloween!

#6: "Screen saver just does not work."

FWIW mileage varies depending on graphics hardware & level of D3D support.

* * *

#11: "I cannot select it as my screensaver ... The screensaver previews perfect... "

1 option you could try would be to right-click the .scr file & select Install.

Another option would be to locate "3D Spooky Halloween Screensaver.scr" -- it should be in Windows' system folder -- optionally copy or cut & paste it wherever you like, & rename it making sure it has an .exe extension. Now create a shortcut to that newly renamed file -- copy -> paste shortcut works -- right-click the shortcut, select properties, & on the "Shortcut" tab add "/s" (without the quotes) to the very end of the command line listed as Target [add it outside the existing quotes]. Double clicking the .exe file opens the configuration window -- create a 2nd shortcut for that if you like. The 1st shortcut you created will run the screensaver.

#15: "a bit cheesy rendering, but the biggest problem was it switched off by itself three times in a row in exactly the same moment."

In case it helps, I've had that happen with quite a few screensavers unless I uncheck the box to "Exit on Mouse move"

I installed this on a XP machine. But didnt seem worth of my putting it on my Win 7 laptop. It ran ok. The screensaver was very monotonous, showing the same thing over and over, in a short time span. I rate is as only ok, a 4 out of 10. Not terrible, but not very good either.

Really fun! Quality graphics and sound, no nonsense install on Ultimate Windows 7-x64 and Vista-x64, XP Pro Sp3, and even Windows 8 DevPreview in VMWare virtual machine.

However, on the Windows 7, had to run GOTD's setup as Admin.

Anyone who thumbs-down this cute freebie probably gives that nasty candy corn for treats on Halloween, anyway!

Thank you GOTD

Those “uppity computer people” came to hate screensavers when they were necessary, because in actual fact they had become screen destroyers. Pretty pictures, that contained high intensity bright colours in the same spot hour upon hour, burning away the CRT tube.
I agree with you about the name, but it is too ingrained to change.

Why do people hate screensavers so much. Many people love them. So why is it you can't understand that. That being said, I don't use them. My computer is always doing something while I am in front of it.
When I see them on other peoples computers I enjoy seeing them and if I
had more down time on my computer I might have them too.
Many screensavers offer some beautiful backgrounds. Before condemning them all try stopping a moment and look.

I would like to... suggest an idea
Control the level of anti-aliasing - lines are too distinct between different shades of fog or light, and in detailed areas like the skeleton's fingers. Very distracting. Otherwise I love it!

(I tried to enter this in the "Share your ideas" section but after trying 8 or 10 times on entering the requested code I gave up - it ALWAYS rejects the code I type, and I zoomed up the code image to make sure I entered the right numbers each time)

I have most of the screensavers listed above and enjoy them all. They run well on my Vista 32x system with NVIDIA GeForce GTX550 Ti graphics card. I like the music and visuals and the creative thought that goes into them. Thanks very much GAOTD and Gemini.

First of all, this is compatible with Windows 7, 64 bit. Every game or screensaver that I installed on my computer that was compatible with Vista, but didn't mention Windows 7, worked on my computer except for just one game. This is the 3rd Halloween screensaver that I had on my computer that was created by Astro Gemini, and I liked them all. The last one, the spooky attic one, I kept for about a year. The first one, the 3D spooky Haunted House one, I still have on my older computer with XP, and is still my favorite of the 3. This one is very entertaing also. It's a keeper.

Downloaded, installed and runs fine on my older XP machine. The flying, flaming skulls are a little odd, otherwise it's a pretty cool screensaver and I appreciate getting it free. I've been waiting for a Halloween screensaver and, as usual, GOTD did not disappoint. I like a utilitarian freebie as much as anyone, but we need to have fun sometimes, too. Thanks for a nice change of pace, developers and GOTD!

With Windows 8 on the horizon, Windows 7 being available for a couple of years now (32- and 64-bit versions, I have a problem with a company who bills themselves as the "Leader in 3D screensaver devlopment" that list Windows Vista as being the latest level of OS thier software is compatible with. I happen to like screensavers if they're not cheesy or look like it was developed by a 3rd grader, but when I download and install them, I expect them to work properly and not cause errors.

How did you get it to run right on Win7 64 bit? When I installed it on my Win7 64-bit, the screensaver's loading screen is fine but when the screensaver starts, it's just a flashing distorted mess, failing to display correctly at all. There is no compatibility mode option available in file properties.

Also, the astrogemini screensaver manager, which I love, was not included at all in this download. I had hoped the manager would be included. I thought possibly I might be able to get this screensaver to work right by selecting the xp compatibility mode in the properties of the manager's .exe file....but no manager :(

I love AstroGemini screensavers & am really disappointed that so far, there seems to be no way at all to get today's giveaway to run correctly on my Win 7 64-bit laptop & there's no screensaver manager either :(

Trend Micro OfficeScan which my company requires me to have on my laptop prohibits me from going to the astrogemini.com website - says it's "Dangerous" and a "Verified fraud page or threat source."

I'm sure it's a false positive, but the developer should probably contact Trend Micro to unblock their website.

I'm not a fan of screensavers, so it would not be fair to rate thumbs up or down, but I have seen their "Santa's Home" and "Halloween in the Attic" (before Trend Micro was mandated) and they are well done in a technical sense and quite attractive, although more for kids IMHO.

And I agree it needs to either be compatible with Windows 7 or else it's made so it is possible to put the .exe into compatibility mode for the program

Downloaded and installed on XP just fine.

Screensavers are not really needed any more, BUT...we all have beautiful monitors and sound equipment so why now use them and enjoy a little diversion now and then!

Nice graphic, good audio and much more animation than I was expecting. I do agree with some of the comments about too much happening at the same time....maybe spread them out and have the program run a bit longer, but that's not a complaint, just a suggestion.

Overall, a thumbs-up from me!

Though 3Planesoft are my screensavers of choice, I've used several AstroGemini and haven't been disappointed.

This installed perfectly on my Win7 64bit laptop and runs smoothly. The only thing I would like to see changed is the ability to choose how many things fly across the screen, but overall, a nice little screensaver.

Thanks GOTD and Astrogemini for another nice, free download.

Cute screensaver. Not as good as Halloween in the Attic but its nice to have one to rotate with. Not sure what the exploding chimney has to do with Halloween but who's gonna argue for free. I did end up buying some of their other screen savers after the first giveaway. They have good graphics. Yes it works fine on Win7-64 unless maybe you have some wierd graphics card. And for those that say who needs a screensaver...Its just cute. Something that kicks in and gives you something different to look at (Unless you the type that powers off to save that .000001 cents a day).

This is pretty " C O O L " ?? actually runs on my W7 SP1 unlike some other screen savers. very good detail and as a novelty the 3D concept is fairly convincing for a 2D monitor, great resolution, can't see how much resources it's using versus background programs

Installed very easily on Vista 64-bit.

It looks pretty good and I watched it for a while. I wouldn't pay $10 for it, but if I were in a screensaver mood, $5 wouldn't be unreasonable.

The term "screensaver" is outdated and tends to put off those uppity computer people. Yes, we know you don't have to save your screen anymore, no need for an immediate thumbs down. Screensavers tend to be more for people passing by than for the user, why point out that you don't sit around watching your screensaver?

Maybe call it something else, an "Idle Mode Something-or-other".

I'll keep it but probably won't use it. I prefer a plain black screen for my Idle Mode Something-or-others.
