The program keeps loading at startup in Windows XP and crashes with warning:

"Unable to play [rnms3270.dll]
This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues."

Only corrupt files is this lowsy software. Google "Unable to play [rnms3270.dll]" and you'll find this problem has been going on since 2007 and still hasn't been resolved. FAIL!!! Uninstalled.

I have found Zoom Player to be one of the best Multimedia Players out there...I have actually done quite abit of research on many of the media players out there. And it remains in my top 5 easily. Pros- Multiple functions and interface easily navigable and customizable for any level of experience. -Great video Quality...including very well rounded customized codec installer. -* It has the quickest loading playlist that is capable of loading videos from both local and networked directories...The ONLY recommendation that I have is the discrepancy with .rar/.zip files. It has a tendency to get hung up while trying to load there file types...Either make them capable of being loaded and played a playlist or have them skipped over.

After installing the programme I had the same problem with the rpwa3260.dll file. I uninstalled the player, and now my Windows Media Player is acting very strange. Not even a new installment of Windows Media Player has solved the problem. Some AVI´s wil not play any longer. The only way to seee the files (movies) is to use the VLC player. So all in all, this player was no succes.

In case anyone decides to take a look after GAOTD closes this, the restarting might be a feature Zoom Player has in case the video or something else causes a player crash or it won't proceed and it can't or won't proceed normally ... might be set to "restart in case of problem" and therefore you might be able to turn that off somewhere in the menu system ... search for it and change the settings if interested.

Knowing whether the codecs had installed or not was annoying, but apart from that, smooth install & very user friendly product.

I find the interface a lot easier to navigate than many others, & I like the extensive info onscreen with what I'm playing. (It even includes the time!!!) My two top players, KM & VLC are great but not very intuitive, whereas this one I cd figure out quickly. Which is a big plus for a non geek. Thanks InMatrix & GOTD.

I have used the free version of this player as my default player for quite a while. It is straightforward and easy to use/configure. Video and audio playback are very good.

I recently tried the "radio station" on the free version (after having the software installed for YEARS) and was impressed with the variety of stations available. Music fans might find this feature worth checking out. It also offers talk radio stations, as well.

Reading the reviews of this giveaway today, I had hesitation about installing yet another media player on my new pc since I'm trying to limit how much stuff I load up with. I checked out the website and read some more specs on it and liked seeing that it supported the 3GG (android phone) format. Ironically, only found out about the format last night, so seeing that there was free software to run my android videos, I opted to try it.

I just uninstalled it. I got the missing [rpwa3260.dll] message, located it through another download as one reviewer instructed, downloaded, installed to system32 folder, rebooted yet I STILL GOT THE MISSING .dll SCREEN! (The instructions from the reviewer were perfect and easy to follow. It's the software that's deficient.)
I also did not like how it seemed to overtake RealPlayer and display its (Zoom Player) screen just by me scrolling over a downloaded file, if that makes sense. ZOOM PLAYER seems a little too obnoxious for me!

I like Media Player, VLC, RealPlayer, and DivX. They work for me and since I'm new to the tablet/android media, perhaps I already have what I need in them.

I'm with #22 wholeheartedly on this! A program should be all packed properly and without need to find a missing .dll file. I can understand needing a plug-in for DVD copying software for liability purposes, but, to have an incomplete package is truly risky when you factor in tampering with the system32 folder.

The fact that this software is not "showroom ready" is a negative. The fact that it is still not ready after locating and installing the missing file is another. And to STILL act obnoxious and hijack my choice of media player is the third strike. BTW: I had no interest in doing the select default media player thing...simple as it may be simply because I shouldn't have to re-tweak my settings in order to make a faulty program work. No one keeps a rude visitor in their house if attempts to correct the situation are ineffective. (At least I don't.)

And as the saying goes: three strikes and you're out. Zoom is doomed if not examined properly for what is making it go left of center.

To all who had problems with conflicts between Real Player and Zoom Player, when installing Zoom Player, unselect the option to install the Real codec. If you had done that, you can choose do uninstall that after.

Same as John #26... installer ran for hours on 2 different Win 7 (one 32 & one 64) causing system to crawl. One system is quad core 3.6 GHz with 8 GB memory. The cancel and close are greyed out on the install window. I even turned off AV and firewall. CPU dropped to less than 15 % since nothing is running.

When I saw at first that they were including the Real player among many other files, I was ready to NOT install it. (In the past, Real was a real registry-clogger. If they've changed, please tell me about it.) But the way this installation was set up, I merely had to un-check the Real Player, and everything else installed flawlessly.

I was really quite skeptical on reading about this player but decided to give it a chance. I am very happy that I did because Zoom Player is much more than a simple player... it is an audio/video manager which thankfully doesn't want to take over your whole media collection for itself and force you to work in the way that is dictated by their library database, like Windows Media Player and Nero try to do. This software accommodates your own preferences and folder structure so that it thinks the way the user does.

The GUI is clean, though I would suggest including an icon in it for the configuration settings. Optional skins is a nice addition too but I'd just call that a little plus.

Where Zoom Player excels, in my opinion, is in the way that is has its own built in codec manager/updater. This is really nice because while one can just download codec collections, one never knows whether or not you are installing, let's say, 3 different APE codecs that have the potential for conflicts or just having none of them up-to-date.

While I have never really paid much notice to codecs once they are installed, it is true that they are being constantly refined for best performance and security. Now I can go on being oblivious with the assurance that everything is being monitored for me.

For me, this is probably the most attractive feature. However, Zoom Player is also very able, configurable and comfortable. It is now my default player for video, but for audio I cannot abandon my beloved Halotea player that was offered here recently. Halotea is just a really nice, simple audio player that suits my individual preferences. Zoom would do just as admirable job.

Zoom Player also runs on my Windows 7 x64 just fine. It is very stable. So all-in-all I highly recommend Zoom Player and would give it at least a 4.5 out of 5 just on first use. In fact I am of the opinion that Zoom Player is the best offering here at GAOTD in a very long time. GRAB IT while you can !

I just installed this on Win7 (legacy install) - didn't seem to have any problems with the install, and the UI looks nice. However, I tried playing a blu ray disc and received the following message:
"Unable to play [00005.mpls]
This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues."
When I chose to try Zoom Player it got set as my default player. Now it seems to be preventing any other player from even opening - VLC, HP MediaSmart... nothing is responding. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Well on XP 64 bit machine seems to install and work ok. But on XP 32 bit after installation, It just keeps running when I select almost any file with explorer: Giving message "Invalid or corrupt file run3260.dll." If I kill it with task manager, it just comes back again and again. Had to uninstall on 32 bit XP. Anyone know what is going on here. Looks like a nice program on 64 bit machine but, of course, I listen to audio on my 32 bit. :(

OK so if thing is such a hot shot player then riddle me this. The first disc I put in was this cheese ball "Whitetail Pursuit" video rattling around in my drawer and got no sound whatsoever (though the picture quality was excellent). The second video was a $5 Scooby Doo video I got for my kids and it wouldn't play it at all (my kids are watching the same disc on our tv as I write this), and the third disc was the video owner's manual for my Kirby and the picture quality left something to be desired (a bit grainy and edges were fuzzy). Come on now, we aren't exactly talking about cutting edge discs here and the stupid thing choked on all three and in different ways each time. Sticking with VLC, thanks but no thanks.

#31 Gerry as well as 35 Devnullius and 74 RT -- either or both of the latter two very helpful suggestions may do the job. But in case they don't, it occurs to me that you may need to upgrade your MSI (that's MicroSoft Installer). If so, just google it to find official Microsoft download and/or instructions on how to go about it. I would hate to be in your shoes, so I hope one of these ideas gets the job done for you.

Wow! Good software and quite rich in features. It takes a long while to update everything. There is even an equalizer. It looks simple though. But, I would advise anyone to read this interesting part of the License Agreement in full:

"Content providers are using the Microsoft digital rights
management technology for Windows Media ("WM-DRM") to protect
the integrity of their content ("Secure Content") so that their
intellectual property, including copyright, in such content is
not misappropriated. Portions of this software and other third
party applications ("WM-DRM Software") use WM-DRM to transfer or
play Secure Content. If the WM-DRM Software's security has been
compromised, owners of Secure Content ("Secure Content Owners")
may request that Microsoft revoke the WM-DRM Software's right to
copy, display, transfer and/or play Secure Content. Revocation
does not alter the WM-DRM Software's ability to play unprotected
content. A list of revoked WM-DRM Software is sent to your
computer whenever you download a license for Secure Content from
the Internet. Microsoft may, in conjunction with such a license,
also download revocation lists onto your computer on behalf of
Secure Content Owners. Secure Content Owners may also require
you to upgrade some of the WM-DRM components distributed with
this software ("WM-DRM Upgrades") before accessing their content.
When you attempt to play such content, WM-DRM Software built by
Microsoft will notify you that a WM-DRM Upgrade is required and
then ask for your consent before the WM-DRM Upgrade is
downloaded. WM-DRM Software used by third parties may do the
same. If you decline the upgrade, you will not be able to access
content that requires the WM-DRM Upgrade; however, you will still
be able to access unprotected content and Secure Content that
does not require the upgrade."

I want to warn everyone who reads this... Backup your system or at least make a system restore point before you try this program.

I installed this on my Windows XP system. Then I started getting the following error literally every few minutes.

Unable to play [rpwa3260.dll]
This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues.

Not only was I getting the message saying, "Unable to play [rpwa3260.dll]", but it was popping up with the error saying other dll files as well.

I went to uninstall the program and that too a while too.

When you uninstall the main program, it doesn't uninstall all the filters/components it installed along with it. So not only did I have to uninstall the program, I had to uninstall each individual filter/component seperately.

After finishing that step, there were a lot of the directories for the filters that I had to uninstall manually.

Finally just to be safe I used a system restore point from last night.

This looked like it would be a really good program, but all it gave me was a LOT of trouble.

I posted too early - my problems with: "Unable to play [rpwa3260.dll]
This may be due to a corrupt file, missing filters, filter conflicts, or hardware related issues." aren't fixed after al.

Files belongs to Real Player. I downloaded version, installed without problems but problem with ZPP remains. Rebooting, re-installing, all combo's tried but nothing helps.

The download link for this file works fine, but putting it in windows\system and windows\system32 did not help. Again, nothing changed.

I am not going to spend more time on this. If anyone know a decent fix without removing realplayer - please let us know ; )

For those who don't like downloading dll's from the 'Net's driver sites (and there are many good reasons for that), you may already have rpwa3260.dll. on your pc. Use Windows Search to locate the file and then copy it to the Windows\system and Windows\system32 folders.

If Search can't find it on your machine, a convoluted alternative is to download RealPlayer, the origin of that particular file. After downloading you may still have to copy the file to the Windows folders but at least you're sure you're downloading a file that's more current and safer than what you'll find on most Download sites.

Thanks GAOTD this is a complex player compared to the free stuff I'm used to but a keeper for me. Love the customizable skins and really like the radio player as well. The straightforward video tutorials were a must to get me going because this player is a bit intimidating for the average user. Overall this is a treat and a keeper.

No manual activation required so the download is easy and fast.

Tested on XP SP3 (Finally . Both boxes back up with new motherboards)

I think there's a problem with the timecode on certain files but it may be inherent in the filetype.

I like the keyboard shortcut for pause to play/stop.

the install again spread files around (not as bad as win 7) but I now understand how to run the install center and get where I need to go.

Installing to c:\gotd\zoom player results in C:\Program Files\Zoom Player where the settings live and many 3rd party apps sprinkled on Program Files\Somewhere. I guess they aren't that hard to track down.

Installed and works fine on Win 7 Sp 1 but it keeps opening by itself. One moment I've closed it and the next moment there it is again. Is it something that I've done wrong or will I have to uninstall it to get rid of the irritation of it opening all by itself all the time?

Just in case this hasn't been mentioned (I apologize if it has since I haven't the time right now to read through all 76 comments), you can install Zoom Player without installing all the codecs in the Install Center. When you are running the installation uncheck "Run Install Center." After installation, open Zoom Player and try to play different types of video files so that you can determine which types it will not play. In my case it will not play .mp4 or .flv files without additional codecs.

It's a good player and I would keep it on my pc if it didn't require codecs for those file types. Since I have another media player which will play both file types and this version of Zoom Player does not play blu ray (plus I might have to add codecs for that), I will use what I have. I'm not keen on downloading codecs since I have had trouble with my pc in the past because of codecs. I prefer media players that include them already.

Well guys, I think this one of greatest bits of kit that I've got for ages! Why, you may reasonably ask? Because I have spent hours and hours comparing this product with all the usual inc. freeware (which I think is great too) such as VLC, UM, KMplayer, Mediaplayer Classic etc. with many different holders and codecs, some come with the product concerned others you have to download and install. I have found that some players deliver a better quality experience with some vids that zoom does, but I don't want to spend half my viewing time deciding which I will use to see my movie! E.G. Apocolypto was better with UM, but zoom was pretty damn good. I think and hope that I have finally found a media player which will deliver every time, even if it is not the best for a particular vid that I have. I want the power and I just want to turn it on (apologises Rainbow) and that I can seem to do with this product.

Will I be a future customer, you betcha! This way I hope I can uninstall the 14 or so media players (except winamp which I love for audio) that I have currently. As far as the price is concerned, yea we all like things to be as cheap as possible, but have you bought 2 movie tickets lately? Come on get real, if you really want something to do the job without a lot of hassle, maybe not always the best result, just see ALL your movies at the cinema.

'nuff said, I (IMHO) think this is one piece of good kit and the options you have on their website is a great bonus.

Cheers - Peter.

Zoom Player is a highly respected media player. So grab this offer!

It is especially useful for true-HD video playback, which is an area where many software media players tend to have issues.

During my installation of Zoom Player, the installation took a long time (~5mins), frequent freezing my high-end (i7, with 4GB RAM) system, and this happened for each of the .pls files being installed.

I don't understand why a 9+mb media player requires so much time and processor bandwidth to copy over pls files during its core install!! All other media players (including Windows Media Player) copy over in a jiffy (except for the dialogs where they prompt for some settings to be chosen). Heck, even the Zoom Player's Install Center (which downloads and updates all the different codecs), seem to finish its job without any fuss or issues.

(Surely, Inmatrix, you need to totally revamp your installation engine and scripts for Zoom Player! only the Install Center is okay and seems stable)

Folks, to continue onto a related topic, if you have some other favorite media players that rely on codec packs, then you should be careful with installing Zoom Player, as it will keep all codecs updated (which *might* break your other media player software or codec packs). Always create a restore point before installing multimedia programs, as they tend to integrate themselves tightly into the system and take over the media file associations.

Alternatively, you can get the latest free version of PotPlayer:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

IMHO, PotPlayer is better than Zoom Player in most respects (it is free!!), and does not need external codecs.

PotPlayer is from the same developer who created the famous KMPlayer software.
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1312075

Gizmo's team currently rates it as the best free multimedia software player:
https://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-windows-media-player-replacement.htm#PotPlayer_Review

Even long-time fans of KMPlayer should migrate to PotPlayer, as KMPlayer is no longer being frequently updated, has become spyware (with the ASK toolbar and unnecessary PandoraTV embeds), due to Pandora's sponsorship and ownership. I think it will become commercial this year, the way it is headed.

There's a good overview of the history of Potplayer and KMPlayer here: http://www.xenonmagazine.com/showthread.php?t=3547

Happy media hunting, folks!

@31 Gerry:
For months I had no trouble with downloading from gaotd. During the last month I’ve failed all four times I’ve tried. I open the readme file ok, and then open the .exe file. Then I get an NSIS error message saying the installer couldnt start.......

If you had installed Mamutu which was a GOTD some months ago; the GOTD setup.exe wrapper generates a MAMUTU warning (and NSIS error), and stops the installation. Shut down MAMUTU (from the system tray) first, do the installation of the GOTD software. After installation is complete, re-enable MAMUTU.

Hope this helps...

Update to post #50. I uninstalled the player, reinstalled, and still no joy. Another uninstall along with the codec or whatever else came with it.
3rd install-player only, no codecs, unchecked Radio Database and Install Center.
Once again it did not work, another error telling me "program not responding". And once again another uninstall. Three times is my limit.
Can't use something if it won't respond and do what it is supposed to do.

Nice app.... so much so, I uninstalled my OEM PowerDVD.

One thing I'll mention... during installation you might wish to uncheck the Radio Database and Install Center options. The first time I installed, I was amazed at the gazillions of radio files installed... most of which I don't care about. I also didn't want to deal with the various codec decisions during the install process. So I uninstalled it all with Revo (14,000+ files, many of them radio entries). When I reinstalled I found Zoom Player installed the "Install Center" feature that could be run later at my convenience. Eventually I ran it, and updated only those packages that were already on my machine. Nice feature as 6 had available updates.

@41: If you are looking for software that can rip an encrypted DVD (this won't work on blu-rays unless there is a newer version that I don't know about) you could try "DVD Shrink". It allows me to buy DVDs from different zones and rip them to a multi-zone DVD format for burning (I use Ashampoo's "Burning Studio 6 Free", although many GAOTD users don't like Ashampoo's products....)
The excellent, free "Format Factory" will convert between formats.

Like many of today's commentators I am hesitating on today's giveaway because I mistrust the idea of downloading a bunch of extra codec packs when VLC allows me to play pretty much anything. Anything that won't play (which has NEVER happened) I would just convert using format factory.

For music I have used Winamp without complaint for many years.

Love Zoom Player Pro! I have used many players and really enjoy this one as it places the most control at your finger tips. Installed great on WIN7 64Bit i7 12GigRam.

Runs at 32 Bit, which is fine. Consumes 1% CPU running with live EQ tuning enabled.

Love the EQ! Let me tell you how refreshing it is to have a real live EQ. Most other players offer a EQ, but Zoom's is the first to not have any lag time and keep the CPU consumption at a minimal. Thank yoU!

It's hard to make a suggestion for such a full featured player, but I discovered a few things I would like.

SUGGESTIONS:
1) Profiles - Allow the saving of all settings in player to multiple profiles. EQ, Playlist, Brightness and Color. The reason? My dad likes his color and brightnesses different than I do. He also likes different EQ settings. Sure would be nice to have a quick click to switch between his and my settings. (this would also be very useful for switching settings between watching/listening on my computer and then switching to settings used when I plug into my home entertainment system(different speakers) and larger flat panel screen.)

2) Expand the playlist functions. Make it easier to tag, rate files, track play counts and last time files accessed. This helps understand and sort most popular media more quickly and with last time accessed - should be able to sort for holiday selections easier.

Hope this helps.

@39,32, others - re Real Player. This is odd. A new program should go oyut of its way to leave the rest of one's PC the way it finds it, make no changes without permission. So why the advice to reinstall a existing installed program after installing Zoom player !?

XP SP3
v8.11

i believe this to be pre-registered to GAOTD, with no
specific registration required

installed using "legacy" mode
installs into directory of your choice

the installer options were confusing (not explained enough, IMO),
as i did not know what each were/did
(this database & installing into Programs & whatnot?)

install center:
during the install, it proceeds to download, install,
& register, a ton of "components" (codecs).
that was unexpected, though seems to have progressed
just fine.

Zoom Player has been around for a long time, though i
have not actually used it in ages (instead using
MPlayer with a GUI), so i'll assume its install is
well thought out & clean.

this is certainly not a svelte installation (size-wise)

70 MB in the Zoom Player instalDir itself,
+
50 MB in \Program Files\ for the various installed codecs
(i would rather they had NOT been installed in that
particular location)

it saw that i already had FFDShow installed & updated
that to a later version, keeping it in its existing
director (which was nice of it)

now i understand the reason for the codec installations
though it just kind of overwhelmed me by its extent

turns out, a bit earlier today, my brother gave me 3
.MOV clips for something we're putting together for our
parents.

when i extracted (they were ZIP'd) the clips, one was
corrupted. MPlayer would not play the corrupted clip &
likewise neither would Zoom. the clips when played
though MPlayer, the voice was out of sync. played in
Zoom, the sync was much better. at some point, & at
particular times (not always) MPlayer also had a habit
of sending the audio into a loop. Zoom did not display
that. otherwise video quality was fine with both.

tried to open a particular .RM in Zoom & it reported an
'access violation ... in ffdshow.ax ...'. after that
no media worked until i restarted Zoom. MPlayer played
the same clip without incident. i don't hold that
against Zoom knowing that there will be times that
particular clips will/will not play in a particular
player.

otherwise, Zoom has been around a long time, & while i
have not really explored all its features, i am sure
they are there in spades (from past, long ago usage
of the player). shouldn't be any issues with it &
expect there is a vibrant community behind it (though
haven't looked just yet).

a worthy player to have

that said, as i have been using MPlayer for ages now
& am comfortable with it, & it does what i need &
how i expect, i will continue to use it as my main
player & will (now) use Zoom as i do all my ancillary
players - in supporting roles for those times when i
run into something that just doesn't play as i'm
expecting it to

This might be worth it for the "Install Centre" alone. It seemed to find all my existing codecs and updated them, a job which can be a time consuming pain.

By far my favourite media player. The ability to update codecs from within the program is one of the best features. Codec packs are a nightmare. This just works.
