Seems to hold the potential of being the best screen capture software I have ever owned...plenty. But I have no idea where it's operation manual is located.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

If you don't want to install this, go to the publisher's site. There is a portable version you can download. Use the information in the readme to register it.

Reply   |   Comment by dadams  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

dadams, well, it doesn't require to be installed and is portable in that sense but it isn't stealth (since it leaves traces behind). It also will need to write the registration details and other stuff onto the hosts registry. So if you carry it to another machine, you need to re-register it again and re-do all of the settings. So not a true portable, just the installation folder zipped up and that you can do on your own.

Chasm, Same experience: used in Win10 and later in Win8.1 I needed to register it again.
The same program and the same folder: so portable?? I don't think so.

seems to work quite well, need to right click on (X) where you would normally close to activate the program, that was my only issue, let me update to the current version, does not specify a time limit. I rate it a A++ win 10 x64

I clicked on the download button and then clicked on the option to send me an e-mail with the download link. I filled in my e-mail and clicked to send it. I received a pop up window that a link would be sent. But I have not received the link. And now every time I click on the download button I get the same pop up window that the link has been sent to my e-mail. Sometimes my e-mail service does discard e-mails as spam without telling me. If that is what is happening I could request it to be sent to a different e-mail that I use. But the way it works has me stuck by insisting it has already been sent.

I realy like this program and have had 10.2.3 and wwhen next after that comes I installed it and noticed that the great function to save screen size not where there and I need that to do it easier to me to adjust screen size next time I shall use same size, so I uninstalled it and reinstall 10.2.3, so when I saw today's Version I think I will give it a chance and as I thought the function was still not there, so I wonder why? Take it back and I will upgrade to this version coz it has new nice function as I want, but the lose of function as are in 10.2.3 are more important to keep and the settings meny can´t you have open and do recordings at same time and that are you forced to if you shall record many diffrent videos coz you must name them there, so why are that chance? Redo and Do it right?

I had been unable to find any freeware that even approach this program's capabliies.
None so compact and effective at any price.

Because it can also be set up to record audio alone, it's ideal to keep running whilst browsing streaming sites (e.g. Radio.garden) and recording an MP3 to edit and listen to later.

Rena,
Hi, I usually press 'windows' button and that allows me to see desktop bar where my screen capture icon is, and use it this way (bar and rest of icons are not captured in the process, only full screen of whatever), perhaps it will work for You??

Reply   |   Comment by fran  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-30)

Rena, you can set the Hotkey for start/stop recording. I have mine set to F9, works great for full-screen video captures. Click the gear below the red X to access settings, then "Configure Hotkeys".

Reply   |   Comment by Mr.Dave  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-7)

Rena,
Most of the stuff I capture is full-screen. You can use the program's hotkeys (and they can be changed). Explore the Settings options (the 6-point gear symbol).

Generally, I don't keep this program loaded after recording due to conflicts with hotkeys and no way to save my preferred changes to them. I have accidentally turned on the Drawing mode (making markings on screen) or had my coding editor's hotkeys be ignored but ZD Soft Screen Recorder thinking they are for it. So usually, I am starting the program fresh (I do keep an icon on the Taskbar).

When the "What do you want to do?" comes up I choose to "Capture online video," which then prompts me to select a region on the screen. I click, drag, and release for a small section anywhere on the screen because I am not going to use it anyway, which puts the dimensions in the Screen Recorder app top area. Then I right click the dimension on the app, and choose Select Entire Desktop.

Since the dimensions are set, I click the record (red dot) on the app, then when I see the numbers counting, I click on the "Minimise" (underscore) symbol to the left of the red X. That puts the app into the system tray and off the screen.

Now, whatever is happening onscreen is being recorded. When I have finished recording, I can go to the System tray, right click on the ZD Soft Screen Recorder icon, and choose to Stop recording.

I like to capture some before main data and some trailing data to ensure I get what I want recorded fully. Then I use a non-reencoding video cutter to chop of the excess start and end pieces. I end up having consistent videos, all with the same dimensions of my desktop, which makes any of the individual video parts easy to combine into other videos.

To all those having trouble registering the program. Once installed, choose one of the four modes from the opening screen. Then, hit escape to exit and the "control panel" will appear in the lower right of your screen. Click on X as to exit the program. The registration box will pop up. Enter the data from the readme to register. Be sure to use the email they provide and not your own.

Screen captures as a last resort vs video captures(preferred) and time-limited offer for the last option I choose out of so many free options lets see if you are that superior to ask $39.00 [checking checking]nope 0.00 for a dozen. It does what free Screen captures do

GAOTD, Here we see 277 + and 4 - votes at the time I write this --

Sounds like everybody loves this awesome software.

*** But wait! *** Not so fast...

As we often see, the ratings are about comments, not of the offered software.

A more functional website would fix this and be much "stickier" and more valuable to users.

(I can fix this. You have my email.)

Reply   |   Comment by Webmaster  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-35)

Webmaster, I'm not so certain of that assertion. Is it possible the ratings are a combination? I've looked at the comments here, and there's a ton more than 6 negatives. So it doesn't seem it's exactly as you claim, "about comment," alone.

Reply   |   Comment by tb  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-36)

Webmaster, ..... ratings are about comments, not of the offered software. Or other software that is better!

Reply   |   Comment by Benny Garfield  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-35)

tb, yes, you're correct, there is a mixture and the ratings don't help separate 'software ratings' from 'comment ratings' -- which is my point, actually.

Reply   |   Comment by Webmaster  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-31)

Benny Garfield, exactly. Some comments are gold about alternate choices when the offer of the day might be a dog (I am NOT commenting about today or any other specific day). In such cases--and they are frequent--you can't get a 'snapshot' of whether to install today's offer without reading numerous comments....

Program installed smoothly using the tip above "Please use the email indicated in Readme to register the software." Version 11.1.17.0 installs but Version 11.1.18.0 is offered as an update. Should we update?

You should see an option to register once you close out the program.

Dan Cour,
After finishing installing v11.1.17.0 i accepted the offer and updated to v11.1.18.0, wih status "Unregistered". I simply repeated registration steps, entering the data given in Readme.txt file and it was accepted.

Reply   |   Comment by mishasin  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-10)

Dan Cour, you can always try updating. Not every giveaway has such a strict license term that it will completely invalidate the registration on a newer version.

But just remember, the majority of giveaways have a fixed license for a certain version number given away here, everything above that is pure luxury and a license can be invalidated pretty quickly when a new version comes out.

What has changed since version 11.1.10.0 ?
Is it a lifetime licence ?

Reply   |   Comment by F Tummelumsen  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-46)

F Tummelumsen, you can find the changelog here https://www.zdsoft.com/screen-recorder-history.html

As for the license, it is good for v11.1.17.0 and doesn't expire.

It's probably up to the developers if they allow you to update to minor newer versions, so don't feel surprised if updating stops working with the current license at some point.

I downloaded / installed and played with the previous version that was given away July last year. I was very impressed with it - it worked well and had a lot of nice features.

However, after a Windows 10 update it stopped working - kept giving me error messages - and I uninstalled it. When I uninstalled it, it removed the desktop icon of a competing product that has the same .exe name, instead of its own desktop shortcut. So be aware when you uninstall it, that might happen.

Reply   |   Comment by Kermit  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-39)

Kermit, Surely you can easily replace a desktop icon as long as the programme it represents is not affected? Uninstalling (not this but in general) can sometimes do serious damage, especially in the registry, and needs care, but a mere disappearance of an icon is nothing.

Reply   |   Comment by Zen  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-49)

Zen , I agree, it's very minor but still it shouldn't happen.

I panicked when the icon disappeared that I had accidentally uninstalled the software I wanted to keep - and it too was giveaway software that I wouldn't be able to reactivate - that's the only reason for my warning. Once I checked it was a simple matter to replace the icon.
