This tool has problems opening a bit more complex XLSX-files, i. e. the program freezes and you have to close it via the Windows taskmanager. Other than that, there is no way to print the content of the XLSX-file.
I don't see any reason why someone should install this tool and not prefer e. g. the free LibreOffice or OpenOffice (I don't accept the argument of LibreOffice being to heavy weight).

A free (for everyone) Google account will permit users to view, save and convert MS Word, Excel, and PourPoint files to a comparable Google file. I really can't see the need to pay $$ for this offering. But thank you anyway.

...and you can also edit MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in Google as well. However, I only recommend this feature for occasional use, since it is buggy.

The Microsoft Excel Viewer has been "retired" for several years. You can't get it from Microsoft, as far as I can tell, though perhaps it's available elsewhere.

Thanks for the kind offer. However, the description is misleading. It says "ByteScout XLS Viewer helps you work with XLS, XLSX, ODS, CSV, and TXT files for multiple purposes.". There is no "work with" or "multiple purposes". It is view only with the only usable options anywhere on the screen is "OPEN" and "EXIT".

Can this be used in non business (ie home) environment?

XLS reader does not let you change the context of the text, it is just that a reader. If you do not have a writer, it is not appropriate for business uses, you still have to have a writer installed separate of it to do the job. There are so many free software that do both read/write and it is much more useful to anyone needing to edit the XLS files.

"Open Office" does everything this program does and more. It is always free.

Gary, Libre Office is also free and does this (which I use because of the updating over Open Office), but according to ByteScout this free program does not need such a heavy application to do the viewing. Some may appreciate a lighter weight application.

Hott, Microsoft Excel Viewer (free)

Hott, the problem is that this reader takes over the XLS files as a default reader and you have to change the defaults every time you need a writer and it associates itself with ODS and CVS files also as a default reader and interfere with most of the previous setups.

Hott, Google Sheets is a online application and works well for me.
