I used it all day!, it has a few check points BUT, it transfers into different formats perfectly that can be put on a Ipod. For me, a great Christmas present to myself. Firefox to download, (faster) but definitely this transfer.

Again one of those giveaways that did not really activate (followed steps in text readme to the letter). Would have been nice to have gotten the full program - not what in essence is just the 30 day trial. Still can't complain at the price - free. Only gripe is that installers are a little hit-miss in my experience - there is room for improvement there.

I don't mean to be patronising to the community member who wrote comment #73 - It's after 4am here in the UK and at this time of night I tend to be in a contemplative mood, so please don't be offended when I ask the following:

I'd love to know how you can say that the freeware applications that are recommended as alternatives each day work better than the applications that are being given away when you admit to not even trying any of the giveaway app’s?

To all those that have posted links to alternative freeware app’s, especially Eric Johnson, Figboot and Globi Chat; I thank you. I will eventually get around to comparing each of them to today’s giveaway so that I can decide whether or not I’ll be keeping it, buying it or staying with a freeware alternative. It’s rare that I bother with the applications unless it’s something that I don’t have, or can possibly use.

Have a great weekend folks. :)

c'mon, if you want to download and convert youtube videos, just use RealPlayer's downloader plus any other free video converter (that's what I do, at least).
Or you could try iDesktop.tv (www.iDesktop.tv), it's not an application but it could download+convert at the same time. It's like a Advanced version of youtube.

Let me explain the "Malware issue"

I think the reason is the "recorder" function, it will watch the url of your browswer, this behaviour may be thought as "malware" by AV software. So it is not problem at all.

I'm now using the NOD32.

I'm afraid I still (even though 'batch' probably ain't there in the same sense) prefer to use the free Moyea FLV Downloader (http://www.flvsoft.com/download_flv/), and use something else to convert.

At least it can pick off *some* tougher targets than youtube, and usually puts the right name on youtube clips. and lets you cut-n-paste the titles from elsewhere before starting if not.

The wondershare downloader seems much less clear and not as powerful, and I usually leave the format alone unless I gotta send one to the clueless.

Thanks for the tip on free download manager, though usually UnPlug for firefox and Moyea take care of most items.

Anyone know how to snag vids from the new york times? neat article and vid on how to carve a turkey the easy way there.

On Vista Home Basic I had to unistall, then run the Activate and Setup both as an Admin in order for it to work; besides not registering at first I was getting other errors when I launched it.. not to complain, just offering it as a potential fix for others having problems with it.

Try the one I listed VidiMonkey, it's pretty simple and fortunately doesn't require you to install anything. Just enter your youtube/video link in - and then it will spit out the save and preview link, you can preview the video or save it.

Then you have an flv, you can use a video player like flvplayer or VLC player, or even convert it with SUPER (available on sourceforge free) to any format you want.

I had PRECISELY the same problems as commenter #4, 4 virus warnings and a runtime error when my test conversion hit 90% complete. I am using XP Pro, Firefox 2.0.0.8, and Avira Antivir Personal Edition Classic. Don't waste time telling me about downloadhelper, I already have it and got this GAOTD for the conversion tool.

#6, #24:

FDM is good, but it crashed & now won't run OR uninstall from my system; their "so-called" support is fairly lacking too. Have to agree with #26 on Orbit Downloader...never had a problem with it.

The posts here re malware possibly associated with Wondershare youtube downloader make me a bit leery of this prog. Will wait to read further comments before deciding to d/l.

Finally someone mentioned websites that download youtube videos without installing anything?
Right now not all works though.

TechCrunch does however.

Also video conversion is supposed to use much CPU, or else it will take much longer time. But if there isn't priority changing in the program itself, you can always use task manager (beware, some programs can crash).

Seems that false positives are very common in virus scanners today. Many because of "pre-emptive/bloodhound" scanning that is too sensitive i believe. Learn your anti-virus software.

This is from Sophos Anti-virus:

File "C:\Program Files\Windershre\YouTube Downloader\MonUrlMgr.dll" belongs to virus/spyware Mal/behav-10

Once Sophos deleted the file, the program did not work!

I wouldn't use this program (there are many other freewares)

I haven't tried this out yet, but I can safely say that can do the same thing with online tools (no need to install anything). Try out VidiMonkey VidiMonkey Video Saver.

It will let you save videos from video sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, Break, Myspace, IFilm, Putfile ..etc. But the best feature is that it can save bulk videos, so you can queue it up for 100's of videos. Very nice tool that's free.

Also HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!

I personally use the VideoDownloader plugin for Firefox, which downloads .flv files not only from YouTube, but almost any other site on the web that uses .flv videos. If you don't have firefox, you can do the exact same thing using www.tubecodes.com.

As for playing the .flv files, use the FREE .flv player. You will need a video converter to convert to other formats. SUPER might be able to convert these files, and it's free software as well.

Hi, I've tried out some of the software you offered and I never had problems installing it. Until now, I cannot possibly get the Wondershare Downloader registered. I've installed and uninstalled it over and over again, activated it before installing (what usually must be done before installing the software), activated it after installing the software. Nothing. Everytime unregistered version, 30 days left.

The software is quite good though, I even converted a youtube file into an avi file and Windows Media Player just played, despite the watermark. Help me please, love the software, hate the registering thing.(I'm running Vista by the way, but it should support it)
Thanks.

Decent program, conversion is slow and you can only convert one video at a time. You should be able to rename the video automatically but this can only be done manually, after the download/conversion.

I checked and did not get any messages regarding virus' like others have reported. No problems with activating the program.
