Works to make backups, but the quality isn't as good as it could be. But if your just making backups to extend the disc life, this will work. It is not as fast as they say it is, but it is still worth trying.
It will also process a DVD ISO files, so if your drive does not work with this application, you can use an app that will copy your DVD to an ISO, and then convert this to a video.
It does not support multiple languages and subtitles. To make a multi-language backup, you would need to do the conversion process for each language, and then use an app like avidemux to strip the languages and subtitles from all and combine into your 'master'.
There is no support for Blueray discs, or Blueray ISO files.
Even with the limitations, I purchased this application, as it did most of what I needed and elected to support the programmers efforts. Perhaps one day the author will address the limitations.

"Works to make backups, but the quality isn't as good as it could be."
Especially since Blu-ray came out, the video quality on DVDs is purposely reduced to the bare minimum to discourage ripping. Every time video is (re)encoded there's quality loss, and by reducing quality to the minimum, they hope that any re-encoded video would be unacceptable, so you won't do it. To get around it copy the DVD to avoid re-encoding and live with the larger file size from the MPG2 video. AI video tools *may* help, but the one's I've seen so far take a very long time to process the video.
RE: speed, if you rip the DVD to an mpg2 file, or if you copy the DVD to your hard disk and use a tool to strip out a copy of the mpg2 file [without re-encoding], you can use different apps to re-encode the video if you must re-encode. Converters & rippers most always use the ffmpeg code libraries, but there are encoders that use the GPU MUCH more using Cuda [NVIDIA] or Quick Sync [Intel], and they are MUCH faster.
RE: multiple language & subs, if you have a complete copy of the DVD on your hard disk, and can live with the video being mpg2, there are tools that can strip out the menus and such if you want, while keeping only the audio & sub tracks you want. There are also tools to strip out the audio tracks, which you can optionally re-encode, and then mux back into the video -- I believe you'd want to use the MKV format if the original DVD format is unacceptable, since it can have multiple tracks. You can do the same for subs, or you can OCR them using something like SubtitleEdit to text-based .srt files for better player compatibility.
