Jenny,
This comment would have been better if made earlier in the day instead as late as it was.

Jenny,

Any idea why previous versions of this software would work flawlessly, but now I'm receiving the following error message:
"Can not be converted. Please click "Ok" button to continue"

-Thanks

Announced that the first movie that I tried to convert could not be converted, then splashed up an offer to buy. Priceless.

Hardly worth the effort. I've attempted to install 4 times and received multiple Access Violations each time...after turning off both AV software and firewall.
I'll stick with WinX ripper.

I can't get the program to install. I temporarily disabled AVG before running the setup program, but it skips to the post-installation screen with the registration code and option to install Software Informer. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can try?

Reply   |   Comment by Gary  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

I was eventually able to install the program after rebooting my PC then disabling my antivirus software.

Reply   |   Comment by Gary  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Gary, You should look at recent news about AVG and Avast and rethink the AV software you use...

Rabbit, Some of the cases on the DVD's say they are protected but I'm still able to rip them. Others I can't. I have not been able to rip any of the Christopher Guest movies, such as A Mighty Wind. I also have not been able to rip Wild at Heart. I don't have many recent Disney movies but I was able to rip Enchanted from 2008 and Cinderella from 2015.

Some strange statements.

'Supports up to 8k (7680*4320) resolution, and forced subtitles.'

Why would anybody want to upscale a DVD (720x576/480) to 8K?

'Improves the stability of HEVC(H265)'

Considering that there has never been any such thing as an HEVC DVD, this makes no sense.

Good to see Intel QSV support, although based upon an earlier post, 40 minutes seems an excessive amount of time to wait for ripping and conversion.

Reply   |   Comment by PhilS  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+23)

Hi PhilS,

1, The H265 means: convert DVD to HEVC(H265) video.
2, For now, it only takes about 15 minutes to rip the entire DVD.

Sincerely,
Janny

After 40 minutes it tells me it cannot convert due to hardware acceleration,if it doesn't work straight out the box without making you jump through hoops, then its no use to me.Uninstalled.

neil,

Assuming the app's not broken, hardware [GPU] assist can be iffy -- it varies with the brand/model GPU, driver version, & may sometimes be effected by other software installed. It's also been shown to reduce quality vs. regular encoding using just the CPU. And of course that feature may not work correctly with this version of the app & your particular hardware.

That said, GPU assist comes in handy when you're encoding 1080p AVC, because that can take a long time. Re-encoding a video DVD is trivial in comparison -- you're working with much fewer pixels -- so you'll likely find performance acceptable if you don't use hardware assist.

Leighton Smith, Like most programs here, it's probably good for a lifetime on the computer where it is installed abut does not include support or updates. That's why it is showing that you can buy it for $19.95. It will include updates and I'm sure support.

Leighton Smith,

You will find the license info on the right side of the window where the details about the system requirements and other aspects are shown.

Thanks to our continuous requests that GOTD show the license length for each giveaway, the GOTD Team have decided to indicate the length of license for every giveaway. This is an awesome decision.

Thank you for that GOTD Team.

KK, In 2020 you still play DVDs? Really?

Reply   |   Comment by kurioz  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-85)

kurioz, When you live in a place with no internet, DVD's are a must. I can stream at my house but most of the county where I live has poor or no internet. Also, it's nice to rip a few DVD's to a thumb drive to take on a trip. I can watch them on the computer and some motel tv's have a usb port.

Reply   |   Comment by Anita  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

kurioz, It looks like it, and so do I. Trying to belittle someone because they still use DVDs? I have a good collection of DVDs and see no reason why I should throw them away because some people think , in there arrogance, that the DVD is dead.

Reply   |   Comment by Seah  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

kurioz, I think KK said he RIPS dvd's. Isn't this a program to RIP dvd's?

Reply   |   Comment by julio  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

In response to [ kurioz ], we are grateful for the opportunity to explore WonderFox software and give feedback because, yes, we "still play DVDs" ( and all kind of CDs ).

Netflix alone is making a BILLION dollars a year distributing rental DVDs on the cheap, then there's Redbox, direct sales, borrowing from local LIBRARY, and so on, all thriving and busy, mostly because:

( a ) we don't want to wait for a broadcast opportunity

( b ) most DVDs are brand new material not broadcast or streamed yet, or old, old material, no longer being broadcast or streamed,

( c ) It's so much easier to copy and send back, and then watch in our own time and in our own way, than to depend on the permission and preferences of someone else controlling broadcast and streaming.

Everyone has their preferences - we even read paper-bound books on occasion!

Thank you GOTD and WonderFox for keeping exploring the value of DVD CD content management.

kurioz, Do you know what a store is? Ever been on Amazon? They have millions of DVDs that you can actually buy.

"In 2020 you still play DVDs? Really?"

Best Buy shows 47 Blu-ray discs vs. 84 DVDs released this week. While DVD sales aren't what they used to be 10 years ago, the format's very far from dead.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

KK, I still watch dvds. Having dvds is another way of prepping.

Reply   |   Comment by Show Me  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

kurioz,
You will be surprised to know that people are using CDs also in 2020.
If the files are bigger, they opt for thumb drives.

Reply   |   Comment by Basheer  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Not sure why I got downvoted, but @kurioz, yes, I still buy and watch DVDs. Crazy.
Guess what...I still have a VHS player that I use from time to time too. For me, I prefer to actually "own" my media. Digital is just nice to archive and take on the go.

Also, I spoke too soon. Previous versions of this software have all worked flawlessly. Now I am getting this annoying error when I try to rip anything:

"Can not be converted. Please click "Ok" button to continue"

Reply   |   Comment by KK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

bob, it's illegal to take DVDs from the library to convert them to play on your laptop. You should buy a DVD.

PS. all those who responded to kurioz you fell for his irony. Irony is such a forgotten word in 2020. Don't take the world so seriously.
