Digiarty Support Team, you have some incorrect information on your so called Free Video Converter page https://www.winxdvd.com/video-converter/

Beacause you no longer provide the WinX Free Video Converter for download but just a VideoProc.exe trial installer renamed to "winx-free-video-converter.exe" the text under the download button/link that says "Supported OS: Windows 10/8.1/8/7 and lower (32 & 64 bit)" is untrue. The "and lower" does not apply to ANY downloadable installer that you have replaced with the videoproc.exe trial installer as that product is built specifically for the Windows 7 and above kernel.

Digiarty Support Team, no luck with any of the directions. Will not take my e-mail address and not accept the code you have published. Using WIN 10. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Late installing.....and real quickly...download video looked good, however sound quality took a beating. Maybe a a different output would preserve more quality but almost a sense of a torn speaker added to a video with music. And not limited to highs or lows but across whole audio spectrum. And somewhat choppy. Maybe more tomorrow when I try out more.

I’ve used this program for months since it was presented here. If you ask me, the options to edit & convert videos are worth of trying. With it, I can cut unwanted segments to get video smaller (the original file will be preserved) or merge multiple clips to a single file. I often use it to convert videos as I want my entire video library to be encoded in one format, and the quality is not bad. All in all it’s a practical tool. Thanks GOTD!

According to the Digiarty website, it says VideoProc is an "advanced genre" compared to WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe.
If a user already has Digiarty VideoProc Ver3.0 installed and it has video conversion ability, does he need to install this software Digiarty WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe Version 5.15.1 ?

I may be wrong but I suspect that this will likely be the last version of WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe since all links on their sites redirect all references to this product to their newer Windows 7 and above VideoProc product that was given away a little while back as version 3.0
This means if you have XP or Vista or Server 2008 and want to install the latest WinX video convert tech on your pre-windows 7 systems this is likely to be the last version before you'll be locked out of installing the giveaway.
Technically they are not selling this named product any more.

WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe is a good video converter, but as others usually point out, there's not a huge amount of difference between one brand & another. Since the actual re-encoding [conversion] is done using the same ffmpeg code, any noticeable difference, e.g. speed, is due to different encoder settings, most often nowadays H.264 or H.265 [using X265 or X265]. Increasing the encoding quality level increases the amount of time it takes. While (re)encoding video will always reduce quality, if you're watching the video on a smaller screen, that quality loss, &/or any added loss from faster encoder settings, is very often not that noticeable. Ffmpeg, X264, & X265 can all be run from the command line, or there are several free apps that let you directly specify the encoding settings, but WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe is much easier to use.

Rather than go through any conversion, lately I've been taking a lazy approach... The video file size matters if you're storing the video on a microSD card, or say using a phone's builtin storage -- if you stick it on a USB stick, doesn't matter so much. Using a $2-$3 OTG cable & VLC, even my wife's Kindle can play Blu-ray as-is without any problems.

If you don't use VLC & the Blu-ray or DVD format, apps like SubtitleEdit can OCR the subs [which are actually graphics rather than text] giving you a .srt file. Very many players, often including the default player on your phone, let you turn subtitle display on/off using that .srt file. Unlike adding permanent subs, which I think most of these converters do, the video remains unaffected, and the subs will display clearly regardless the screen size or rez.

A nice, simple software, with one CRITICAL flaw: if you try converting any file with embedded soft subs into another .mkv, it turns them into HARD subs. No other option available. This makes it utterly unusable, for me. And even then, the outputted subs are much lower quality than the original subs (less sharp, fuzzier).

It also shares the two main flaws I find with Handbrake:

1) No support whatsoever for AMD gpus.

2) CPU not maxing out, hovering around 50-60% throughout the entire process on my i7 4(8) cores CPU, thus making the process much longer than it could be.

Without the subs problem, it might substitute Handbrake, for me. But as it is, I cannot even use it, 90% of the time.

Thanks.

Reply   |   Comment by andario  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

andario, in options make sure it is set to be able to use all available CPU cores/threads to have a chance of being able to max out the threads available... Even then if it cannot divide the encoding/decoding out efficiently it won't use more threads than it can simultaneously fill with data to be processed.

The hard subs will always be less sharp than playback time rendered soft subs since their sharp edges are softened/blurred by the lossy compression method used to encode the videos and hard subs. You canny change the laws of mathematics... As far as I know there is yet to be a selective codec that can apply better quantasization resolution to the hard subs and lower quantasization to the remaining video frames data so either you have sharper hard subs and larger video files in general or normal video file size and fuzzy hard subs.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

TK, The option is to max out cores is obviously activated. My point was there are other softwares that do max out my CPU, while using the same hardware.

And I´m afraid it´s not about the "laws of mathematics", it´s about this program does NOT create soft subs as I tried to explain, which is precisely what I want. Why on earth doesn´t? I dunno. I know Handbrake does it, and with great quality, so I´ll have to keep using that one.

Thanks.

andario, apologies about waking this comment thread back up again.. was seeing if there were any comments about this giveaway reverting to a trial as it has for me and I re-read your comments and an idea occoured to me... Is it possible that part of the process might have been offloaded to your GPU so there is less for the CPU to do and the GPU was the bottleneck so the CPU never needed to be maxed out to keep the GPU active? Xmedia Recode lets you carry over embeded subtitile streams or import srt files. I suspect Handbrake and Xmedia Recode are similar in capabilities. If this was using GPU to encode and the other software was only using the CPU then that would explain why the other software maxed out the CPU as that is all it had to work with.

Sparrow, It won't download BBC iPlayer based videos BUT if you can find some stand alone video clips that do not rely on the BBC iPlayer engine it has a chance of downloading those.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Sparrow, example BBC site video download paste the URL text https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/embed/p06nd72s/46582025 into the URL downloader NOT the link.giveawayoftheday.com mangled link. Press Analyse button and wait for it to be analysed and various resolutions are offered to download and select what you want and the conversion options you want (if any) and start the download and conversion if selected.

Can not register. Error code 222. Why should AVG be disabled?

Reply   |   Comment by Josef Šaněk  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-11)

Josef Šaněk, Re "Why should AVG be disabled?!"

AVG does not like the Themidawrapper that Giveawayoftheday uses to ensure we can only install today.

It is not necessary to disable AVG completely. It is sufficient to prevent AVG keeping an eye on the folder the Giveaway-zip is unzipped into. But that takes more time than stopping AVG alltogether for a few minutes. The choice is yours.

Josef Šaněk,
If you read post #2 from Digiarty Support Team (highlighted in Yellow color) you could choose to download the installer directly from their webite. A quote from post #2....
Note: If failed to unzip and install the file from GOTD, you can click here to re-download the setup file of Deluxe.
This way you don't have to use GOTD's wrapper that is giving you problems.

Reply   |   Comment by Robert  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Josef Šaněk, if you cannot get your system to handle the setup.exe/setup.gcd wrapper system you can try downloading a slightly earlier build that does accept the giveaway license just fine:

https://web.archive.org/web/20180429060632/https://www.winxdvd.com/download/winx-hd-converter-deluxe.exe
It may require some hand editing to overcome the link interceptor used by giveawayoftheday.com but the installer is the last version of this product archived, more recent coppies of the file served are not this product but VideoProc.exe installer renamed to this products installer to push users over to their new product.

I have version 5.12 from an earlier giveaway. I like it because the conversion speed and quality is good. I especially like that it maintains the full screen aspect while it reduces the file size, The one thing I don't like is the nag screen that opens every time the program is opened. This is due to the fact the open to check for a new version is checked and greyed out. There is no way to deselect it. I hope this version is not the same way. Thank you GOTD and Digiarty Software

dadams, This program has its qualities, but the conversion rate is not part of that. There are other programs that take less than 5 minutes to do what this program takes almost an hour to do, all with the same output quality.

Thanks!

Reply   |   Comment by Ron Dunn  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

mardel, try making the INI change then saving and marking the file as read only... if that fails add deny modify or equivilent to your user group in permissions to the file to prevent the setting being changed back to enabled. Tis very naughty for WinX to force update checks on a giveaway whose terms and conditions prohibit updating to newer versions... I would tend to sniff the domain used for the update check request and redirect it in my systems hosts file to prevent future mistakes that will likely invalidate the giveaway license. I'd not use a firewall to block its access to the web in general as this is supposed to include video downloader functionality and that would block that functionality.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

TK, I have since tried it on my older 5.12.1 giveaway of this and the read only trick and deny write trick fails as the program then throws an error on launch attempt and fails to launch.
The active config.ini is in the %APPDATA%\Digiarty\ program specific folder.

I do note that in this older version when I force it to check for an update the program reports it finds none but the URL used http://WWW.WINXDVD.COM/hd-video-converter-deluxe/upgradeini/upgrade.plist
reports 5.15 is the latest version... It apears the check may be being used to do promotional offers for giveaways and not checking for "free" updates we are not entitiled to. So the update check may not be so much of a concern.

mardel, sometimes an edited file in %AppData% will be stored elsewhere, because you will need admin rights.
You can try and store the edited file on the desktop and then move the file to its correct location.

Ron Dunn,

config.ini is located in

C:\Users\your _username\AppData\Roaming\Digiarty\WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe\config.ini

Yo ucan use the search function of Windows 10 to find %AppData%.
The % ..% symbolise a relative address.

Reply   |   Comment by gergn  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

gergn, close but %APPDATA% variable is the one that does NOT require admin rights... the reason those who did cursory look in the users %APPDATA% folder is that Digiarty programs are almost all stored in a %APPDATA%\Digiarty\ subfolder so if the instead look for a WinX.... named folder they don't se it in the %APPDATA% because they are looking for the wrong iniitial folder name.

Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\ or ProgramData or Windows file system virtualisation is I beleive what you are talking about redirecting non-admin writes attempts to Admin only writeable folders to protect the systems configuration from being globally affected by non-admin users actions whiles still allowing non-admin users to use badly designed programs who put their settings files or other writable files in locations that require admin rights to write to... previously requiring XP users to login as full administrators just to run these poorly designed programs that reduce the resiliance of systems to malicious software by giving the current logged in user always elevated rights.
