I guess I shouldn't have uninstalled it after it crashed. When I came on last night around midnight, the comments didn't show any solutions. It was at 21 comments, and one I posted was #22. I don't see my post now tho.

I just got done converting a DVD to an 800 bit rate xvid AVI with MP3 audio and it will not even play! That blows my opinion of this app. Uninstalled.

HERE IS THE FIX FOR “Illegal System DLL Relocation” message. I have windows XP SP2 and had received this error. I fixed it by going to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448 and under steps to resolve the problem I did only steps 3-5.
Step 3 is: Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Well UNFORTUNATELY I uninstalled the previous version of WinX so I could try this supposedly new, improved Platinum version but, I ALSO get the error that ends with "The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL". Now I have no WinX to try.
SIGH...
Digiarty, could you have tried this new build on one of your computers first to make sure that changes you made did not criple it on Win XP machines? Or, how about that dll so we can run this program?

Only 2 and a half hours until this giveaway of the day is no longer available... :-(

RE #9, #11,14#,16#,#17,#19,#20.
I googled, find a solution for this error message “C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX…” It worked for me. Simply visit a page at Microsoft Support and Download the 935448 package :
http://thepoorhouse.org.uk/fixing_the_dll_c_windows_system32_hhctrl_ocx_occupied_an_address_range_reserved_for_windows_system_dlls
The converted video file looks great. I converted G-force already and I have more to go to back up my collections. I really like this program because of its smooth and fast conversion.

To developers and Zune users:
Still doesn't work on Zune. Yes, it plays in the Zune Software, but the Zune Software won't convert and load it.

How does this feature (Zune compatibility) compare in some other competing products?
- Doesn't work in Extra DVD to All MP4 Ripper
- Works in Extra DVD to Zune Ripper (specialized version of above)
- Works in Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum

For users reporting Illegal System DLL Relocation....

Are you using a Realtek audio card with XP SP2? A quick Google search reveals a lot of forum discussion about this issue. Fortunately, there's a microsoft hotfix (albeit dated 2007) which does seem to have cured the problem for the vast majority.
You can read more detail at the microsoft support page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448
and download the hotfix if necessary from here

Be aware however that (according to what I read in one of the forums) the hotfix "does validate your copy of Windows before running so if you've got anything particularly dodgy (i.e. pirated) in terms of Windows versions installed...."

For the system dll user 32.dll error, download and install microsoft update 935448, found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448

Halfway down the page, click on:
"Download the 935448 package now."

No need to restart - the program should open normally.

Found the solution the error message: “The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS]system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.”

This is due to a Microsoft update from 2008 which caused an address problem for a DLL that is only used by a few pieces of 3rd party software (WinX DVD Ripper Platinum v5.8 now being one of them).

Solution: Download and install Microsoft update KB935448 which can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=74AD4188-3131-429C-8FCB-F7B3B0FD3D86&displaylang=en

There doesn't seem to be a need to uninstall WinX DVD Ripper Platinum v5.8 even though you received the error during installation. Once the update is installed WinX DVD Ripper will start working.

Hope this helps someone else. My thanks to Google and some of the help sites that have already tackled this problem.

This is a nice program. It works well and the install routine was very well written. I installed over a previous version. The program installed with no problems and placed the start menu shortcuts to the current location on my computer(many programs just stick the new start menu short cuts at the bottom of the start menu). Well done. Thank you very much Digiarty Software and the GAOTD team.

WinX_DVD_Ripper_Platinum - Illegal System DLL Relocation

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

First error like this that I've had in years!
I really have not got a clue what to do, so I hope someone has a suggestion.
Win XP SP2 all updates (except SP3!)

Receiving the following error message after uninstalling the previous giveaway version and reinstalling the "rerun" version:

WinX_DVD_Ripper_Platinum.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user 32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thanks.

....just to clarify my earlier question #10

Specifically, I am asking if it might be possible (maybe even in a future update?) to incorporate burnt in subtitles into the 1:1 copies. I do realise that I can select the MPEG tab and do a (much slower) conversion - with or without subtitles.

I suppose strictly speaking, what I am asking/hoping for could no longer be called a 1:1 copy. But I'm wondering if there might be a way to include working subtitle options for 1:1 copies, without slowing the process down much?

This does indeed seem to be a very useful rerun. I like to do my own conversions, and the ability to "backup the whole DVD to a single MPEG-2 file within only 5 minutes" is a great addition to my toolset.

I had a region 2 protected copy of Kill Bill Volume 1 in my drive when I installed this software, and (for testing purposes only) I tried making a 1:1 copy of the main movie (duration 01:46:11). It took just about 9 minutes but I'm not complaining. I suspect better results will be common for many, as both my aging Athlon XP 1900 system, and my rickety DVD drives have seen better days too! The resulting (unprotected) MPEG-2 file on hard drive weighs in at 4.16GB, and is indeed a perfect copy - superb quality, plays with no problems whatsoever on all my players, and can easily be used within other video editing/conversion software. With regards to handling all DVD protections, I've yet to find a rival for DVDFab HD Decrypter, but certainly on this test occasion WinX DVD Ripper performed flawlessly.

Just one observation. When I opt to include subtitles in a 1:1 copy, they are nowhere to be seen in the resultant mpeg file. But if I save the same footage as a (DivX) AVI the subtitles duly appear burnt in to the black region under the video picture. Is there any way to include similar burnt in subtitles in a saved MPEG-2 file?

When making a perfect 1:1 copy of a long DVD movie,.. will "WinX DVD Ripper Platinum" automatically shrink the size down so that it fits onto a standard DVD 4.7GB ???
I currently use DVD Fab which does this and I'm not willing to make the switch if this feature isn't included on the WinX Ripper.

Here are another free DVD Rip software can help you a lot:

DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD discs. You can use it in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a copy of any DVD disc.
