same experience as Leona D's review. Should have disabled auto update check in free version or something.

This software worked great...until I hit the update option. It updated, restarted my machine, and lost the registration information. Now the software is completely useless, as it has no registration info and has maxed on evaluation days.

I downloaded this program....and now it says my evaluation period is over! I tried to re enter the reg code that you supplied with the program...but it still will not work...it wants me to go online and buy a key =(.

Wow! It found over 600 errors in my registry. I used it for the first time today and it was easy, quick and it cleaned up a bunch of stuff.

I use Win XP on a pentium III with a 64MB graphic card and 512MB RAM, so I need all the help I can get to make it work better.

Thanks a lot for this software!

9.5/10 (I can't skin my toolbar, oh well.)

I, too, just finally opened up WinUtilities since getting 6.4 and also have the expired evaluating period. Sigh, I liked this program very much too. Time to uninstall? >.>

Grr... the thing has to be installed *on the day* the free download was being offered! I don't recall seeing any notifications about that requirement when I downloaded. Now it won't even let me install. Oh well.....

DO NOT UPDATE IF IT FINDS AN UPDATE.... You used to be able to simply enter the registration info again and ta-da ;) however the update from a previous version even though it SAYS you have 6.4 will not process the registration info from GAOTD so I finally had to buy it considering I like it :D

I downloaded v 6.2. It only worked for 30 days for me even though I used key provided when I installed it.

Seemed like a good product, but I'm disappointed I can't use it any more.

This software's registry cleaner effectively prevented my system from working. I assume it removed essential registry entries needed by windows in order to launch startup processes. I had to resort to last good configuration in the windows advanced start menu to get my system back.

Good software, but the registry feature is iffy and the built in backup recovery doesn't work.

This program is DANGEROUS.
I'm on XP SP3 and after installing and cleaning the registry (lucky to have created a backup copy), the following things happened :
- My AV started telling me things
- Firefox could not connect to any site (other apps could, though)
- The look and feel of WinXP turned to something like Win3.1 (grey not-rounded-corners windows etc.)
I'm more experienced than the average user and I find this app potentially dangerous. My advice : find something else.

@Purrete, #93:
Hi Purrete, I'm still around, I do hear you.
WinUtilities is a good tool and has many features.
I myself don't like all-in-one tools that much because I will still end up with some different tools. This is because some features in a all-in-one tool are very good and others are not that good. For the last named, I will still need another tool and I will only use the all-in-one tool for some features comlimented with the other better specialized tools. That's why I prefer a couple specialized tools to begin with.
But WinUtilities is quite good overall. I would use for defragging Advanced SystemCare, it is simply more save.
The giveawayday is closed now, I hope you will still be able to read this and excuse me for not furher elaborating on this one.

Everyone knows that trying to "clean" Windows memory is self-defeating. So, let me ask a provocative question: how can we trust products -- including this registry cleaner and most others -- when they pander to stupidity by offering "memory cleaning"? Shouldn't such fraudulence warrant automatic rejection and distrust? Of the otherwise reputable programs, I find only two obtainable for free (somewhere or other): winoptimizer 5 and fix-it utilities 7 express. These two "fraud-free" products, I think you'll find, are, in other respects, also more impressive than the competition .

I am SERIOUSLY impressed! Just ran a few of the utilities while I was syncing my MP3; ran with out a flaw. The option to back up the registry is HIGHLY recommended. I run in full admin on this machine because I have confidence in the security software I have in place and my ability to recover if that fails me. LOL. I ran this software through its paces while running a 4G sync on my MP3; never even had a hiccup. This one has not yet been reviewed on my blog but, it will! Has downsides. You HAVE to know what you are doing to use it effectively; however, the backup option and Restore Point option make this one an easy recommendation. You NEED to learn how to use security and cleaning software. Thanks GOTD and YL Computing, also all the people who provide valuable insight here. Geek CSI

A truly GOOD reliable program! Does so much! I use this and 2 other programs a lot, & can't imagine anyone not loving it.
Thanks for the install tip, above, & YES, if you have version 6.2 it works very well to open that version & just update it, then enter the reg key in the readme you get in the download today + Giveawayoftheday as name.
Thanks GOTD & YL Computing! I really apprecaite YL for giving us this new update! And the reg key also, as this way was easy to update it! It's great to see a company that knows they have a wonderful product!

IOBit said that Adv.Sys.Care Pro's free registration is good until July'09, so I'm using it actively; thus far ----excellent but the good Premium Booster and the venerable GlaryU are shoveled in the "Unused Desktop Shortcuts" folder until necessity calls. What shall I do with WinU 6.4? Who can resist an approval ratio of 74% of Yey against 26% of Ney? #76 seems like a brother suffering in this terrible "Burden of Choice"! Any suggestions to lessen the pains? I have one but I'm alone: based on Ashraf's Verdicts everybody should be going for the best product ignoring all the others. This would spurn them to improve and overtake the qualities of the best, so we wouldn't have 7 mediocre products to wrestle with but 1 or 2 that are outstanding. Ooops, are these the foundations of social capitalism opposite to the "free for all"-Far West attitude of today?

Once again, use with caution. I missed unchecking My Network Places History under the history cleaner, and now I have to go back and re-add all my networked hard drives. I am not pleased - who would want to wipe out all their networked places? This is something I would manually delete if I need to.

Oh great! I recently downloaded and installed Advanced SystemCare and added it to my other 7 or so similar programs and now hello another system cleaner/fixer, and I can't resist the urge to download it and check it out. Trust me I'm not complaining, just wondering which to keep/delete, or if there is another similar software out there that is "THE ONE?" I mean if you run more than one of these utilities then your PC should (ideally) be super super clean and rapid fire fast right...didn't think so.

Reply   |   Comment by guesswho  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

I oops'd and downloaded and installed the Advanced WindowsCare demo thinking it was todays offering, accidentally nuking my full version with the demo.

I've run through most of the features so far (on Vista Business 32bit) No major complaints. One thing I'd like to see is that all windows that display columns with file names and paths be resizable so that all or at least most of the name can be seen without scrolling. The one specific example that comes to mind is the Process Manager. I can't resize it, so to see where the file in question is installed, I have to push most of the rest of the columns off the screen. What is "Process Version" column showing? There should be help file included. Oops, just noticed. It is reporting memory wrong. WinUtil says I have 2,097,151KB (2GB) of Total Physical Memory and I have 1,230460 available (1.2GB free). But I know for a fact that I have 3GB installed. Vista Task manager shows I have Total 3066MB (3gb) and have 56MB free. It's reporting of priorities is a little strange too, 32768=High, 16384=low, 128=high, 32=normal and 0=highest. It would also be nice if there was some way of creating a desktop shortcut to the process manager so I could go directly to it without first starting and navigating through the main app.

O-K so here we have another Windows utility/Fixing program.

Seems to do is job and I've noticed no matter what utility we use, It'll find more than the last one you installed!

I'm never sure why some of these find harmless files just to scam us into thinking we need them or just outright dangerous and finding files that are'nt used very often (But when you finally use that program and it does'nt work, You can't possibly remember a utility program removing the file)
Try those programs that do an online scan just to show how good their program is but require you to buy it to carry out the repairs that need doing...You'll see it'll find even more *Must delete these files before a disaster happens*!!

I'm going the one that GOTD recommends and that's Advanced Windows Care, Excellent program and always free.

The more it finds must be better, surely that is how it must be.

Not at all. The more it finds the more dangerous it is. The fewer chances you have to see what is being deleted also is dangerus.
Deleting all the cookies is not good at all. Many cookies are required by programs and will not be reinstalled if you want to go there. Banking is this way often. Loose the cookie and you loose access to the program.

This is a good program for what it is designed to do. I do not like the one click idea though. I will not use this one.

I've used WinOptimizer, Glary Utilities and several single-task programs as well - and WinUtilities beats 'em all by far. Well organized user interface, all utilities in one place, easy to understand and use. And the Registry search feature, all by itself, is worth its weight in gold. Big thumbs up to the developers and to GAOTD for getting us this one!

Great - yeah it did a fine job of hosing my computer... had to do a system restore and it's still not running right. It never fails- every single time I screw around with these "cleanup" utilities they do more harm than good. EVERY TIME. Some day I'll learn.

Bottom line - if you want to waste a lot of time fixing your computer - do it the 'easy way' instead of the right way.

Installed cleanly on my Presario SR1212NX:
XP Home Ed

Ran through a handful of the utilities without issue.

Hint: WO.exe is the exe for the main GUI. Send a shortcut of that to your quick launch for easy startup.

Nice one-click utils that encompass many different single utilities, along with single tools that function stand-alone, if you don't want a grouped-utility approach.

Bottom line: nice program as a freebie- there's just not enough here to consider buying this utility suite considering aforementioned freeware which appears to be as robust if not more, than this.

A general question:?

When choosing to download the GOTD, is there any advantage to 'saving' the folder as opposed to just choosing to 'open'?

I sense the 'saving' option stores the somewhat large folder/file on my harddrive; but do I need this in the future or is it just taking up space unnecessarily.

Thank you for your help/advice on the best option to choose!

This is an excellent piece of software and it does everything that it says and more. I found a lots of icons that do not link and duplicate files that I don't need. This program will help keep your computer running like from the time you just bought your computer. It also comes with the auto turn your computer off/standby/sleep/hibernation.

Thank you GAOT.

Upgraded from 6.2 by deleting and installing 6.4. on Vista Home Premium. Installation was slightly annoying. First, the WU window meshed with the GOTD registration window. Restarted, then had to either Buy or Register. Should have allowed me to go right into demo mode and test, first. Had to restart again after that, then it worked right. No big deal, registration routine just needs some fine tuning. Reasonably clean install: pretty close to being a standalone. Doesn't throw stuff all over your system.
I like this utility, though it's nothing radically better than what else is available. Still, smart move to give a window with one stop access to Windows built in utilities. You don't have to reinvent every wheel. If you can add convenience, it's a good move.
Current improvements, especially fixing the window sizing issue - that was the MAIN bug in 6.2 - and adding the ability to deselect things you are uncomfortable in the 1-Click utility, are significant, making it a very professional looking tool. I agree with Ashraf, duplicate file finder needs improvement. It's too simplistic. If it added common options like matching size and/or CRC that would make it a smart tool. I realize all license.txt are not duplicate files. LOL. $50 is too much. I suggested to the developers on their feedback page $25. (Please do not post "it's free". The developers WANT feedback and pricing structure may be the best feedback they can get.)
MOST IMPORTANTLY, none of these tools should be considered "one click wonders". You shouldn't delete anything, automatically OR manually, without knowing what you're deleting. That's a crapshoot, and for every positive story out there, there's probably as least as many negative ones. As said by others: with the registry, indentifying more errors isn't necessarily better. The registry also has somewhat the equivalent of temporary entries - ones that are dynamic and often changing. Hence the repeated hits after repairing. In other words, the software's identifying problems that aren't really problems. And some keys are empty because the program that installed them may register a value in them later.
All in all, YLComputing certainly seems to know they're business.

Senior Citizen asked a which ones of these types of software he/she needs. It's really not about which individual softwares you need, they're mostly just packages. It's about what tools you need, and how to use them. If you understand that, and realize that, in certain cases, you might keep two tools to make sure you don't miss important errors, then you'll know what to keep and what to discard.

Harold Foster. Maybe you should invest in a joke book.

Reply   |   Comment by Pat  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

This program seems very similar to TuneUp Utilities. There may be a slight difference in number of registry problems (it all depends on what the cleaner classifies as a "problem"). A few days ago GAOTD offered Quicksys Registry Cleaner, which isn't all that bad. However it doesn't have the one-click maintenance, junk file cleaner, startup manager, and etc that WinUtilities has. Downloaded, installed, and registered fine. However, always use caution when using registry cleaners or system optimizers and stuff of that nature. But, overall I think this software is fine and great for my computer. Once again, another great GAOTD.

I actually prefer these utilities with detailed options which allow me to pich & choose the detail of areas I do or do not want to cleanup. When I see areas lumpted together it can very trying to skip something I felt to be ok. As stated by some of you, just because something is on the list does not mean it needs to be removed.

I regularly use CCleaner, so a comparison on a fairly clean system.

Reg cleaners:

CCleaner: 1 error
Glary: 274 errors
Winutilities 6.4: 135 errors

I checked the Glary entrys and recognise some keys that ARE keepers
WinUtilities had only ones that actually were at fault.

A Keeper. Thumbs Up
