I agree with #26 @lenrat about posting screen shots. Those can be no-end of help figuring out whether or not you'll be interested in the Download.

And don't say "Give it a try!", that's condescending and more trouble than it's worth. GAOTD, and all of it's customers (the producers of the software) know, or SHOULD know, that installing and uninstalling countless programs is guaranteed to mess up your computer. And I for one don't like having to reinstall everything after I've got it set up the way I want.

So, PLEASE, add screenshots to the GAOTD pages!

Bizarre registration process...unable to populate registration form fields. I must give this one a miss! I use Wise Care (from a recent GAOTD, and Ccleaner, which both perform junk cleaning for me. Six hours and no email - Yes,yes checked junk and all that jazz but nothing - Yet another waste of time and effort, really don't know why I even bother GOTD's offers have been a bit (don't want to seem ungrateful) lame of late.

Suggestion: Why not post screenshots of the software being offered. A picture paints a thousand words.

No Registration Code. No sign of anything, anywhere.
The email address is fine, but its been over an hour, which I didn't have to spare today. They must create all the registration codes manually.

Its okay though, I was only marginally interested at best, since this is a pretty saturated field, and most of us have programs like this already. I just thought I'd give it a fair shot at having something special and unique about it.

Thanks for this software. No problem whatsoever downloading, installing and receiving the code. It did not take more than 5 minutes on Windows 7 64 bits SP1. The software does not have to startup with Windows. The user can control everything.

I just registered for this Giveaway of the Day - FileStream WinSettings 8.1 and sent blank email as per the instructions. I did not recieve my code to install the product. I have checked spam folder many times and recieved nothing. I am disapointed that the manufactor promisess immediate email code and nothing :( . I agree with the other users that this is a poor product

@Giovanni, The only 'junk' cleaner I would recommend is Revo Uninstaller
in order to remove the applications you advocate. FYI, PRO's do not 'optimize and tweak' their systems least of all with the software you list.

another GoToad exercise in frustration! I keep getting sent to registration page by the unzipped Setup file, [registered - have key!]but have nothing to register the key in (re: your comment # 10).

have come to really dislike GoToad.

Still using winutilities pro version offered here a while back. I'll stick with that.

@ Giovanni, post #12 re FixWin, 'the Windows Doctor all of us have been waiting for'. Well I sure hope the wait ended when it should've done, seeing as how FixWin was released in 2009 and is no longer supported or updated -- in view of which, I'd sound a note of caution about using it.

Other than that, Giovanni is correct: there's nothing in this software suite which can't be achieved with existing freeware.

The non-aggressive and proven combination of WinPatrol (free) and CCleaner (free: it also includes a gentle registry cleaner, too) is a major hurdle for any commercial opposition to overcome; hobbled by an absurd re-install price of $30, today's developer has no chance at all.

Thanks, GOTD, but no thanks: WinSettings 8.1's roster of achievements simply isn't unique enough, nor impressive enough, to make a convincing $30 argument that this commercialware is quantifiably superior to freeware already out there.

I just want to take the time out to say "Thank You" to EVERYONE who posts their comments/suggestions/alternatives. I ALWAYS review them prior to downloading any GOTD.

My 2 cents for today's giveaway....

Problem with all unknown cleaners: you have to backup your windwos partition with an imager for worst case before cleaner's install and hope that your system still runs after cleaning and that you find out problems before installing other GOTD etc. which you can't reinstall.
And the more cleaning a cleaner does the more instable your system gets. It's no sign of quality if one cleaner finds out more "problems" than another. And this cleaner as #6 Maureen even dosn't tell you anything about results - a black box.

Thanks but I'll stay with CCleaner (in combination with CCEnhancer) as it never caused any problems to me and as far as I know to others.

And for controlling autostart why not use free Autoruns from systeminternals (Microsoft).

What did I do wrong? I checked the options to clean up and hit the Clean Up Now button. It cleaned. Operation is completed. How much did it clean? How many files were deleted? One or thousands? I don't see an option for any particular internet browser. From other reviews it only cleans Internet Explorer?

I am also stacked (like Jacko): I've got password requirement and no e-mail drom Filestream's (checked SPAM several times for the last two hours)...

The only information you need to send to get registration is your e-mail address, I left the rest blank.
This was followed by a to and fro of e-mails to get the registration key.

The installation was no problem; the program then wants you to set up a large number of what appear to be automated optimisations of your computer, not something I like, nor something I am prepared to rush into and will leave until later when hopefully there will be helpful comments.

Would Filestream care to give us a comparison table between the Pro version and this one? There is a good review on C-Net for Winsettings Pro but nothing about this one. It would be nice to see what we'd be getting and for that matter what about an upgrade offer to the Pro version??
