Late here to comment. 6 months of VPN looked like a good offer but unfortunately it's alpha quality. I tested it for 2 days. I've had app crashes when trying to connect certain VPN server. What is even worse today I woke up seeing that WHOAMI VPN got disconnected from my preffered server and instead of reconnecting\picking different server\disconnect from internet at all - this awful software just acted like there was no VPN at all.

Ok guys, got it working. What I did was using the text file that you downloaded. Copy and paste that link in your browser. Fill in the short form to receive your key, while you wait for your key to arrive in your email, go to this site and register. Type in the code you received in the top column of registration form and submit. When you run VPN software and log in, the software will be activated.

How is this better than something like Windscribe VPN which offers 10 Gb a month free (more for a fee)?

Is it better? Cheaper? Faster? I don't get it. You normally have to pay for the add-on??

I mostly use a VPN to watch Youtubes which are blocked in my country. Never used the full amount.

My installation didn't come with a username or password and it refused to set up my account even though I received an activation code via gmail. Used the website to request a new password, but haven't received a reply.

Why this has to be so f***ing difficult to install I don't know.

bad developed vpn, msi crash on installation. "Could not access network location -\ please people stay away from these gifts.

Reply   |   Comment by patyschneider  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

patyschneider, i had no trouble installing, running, connecting. But then the .msi did not "crash on installation" forme, but rather installed nicely and promptly. Followedtheir rather byzantine instructions, got my code, opened my account, got verified and online just like ("snap") that. Don't know what protection it's actually giving me. I picked US server and got connected somewhere on the West Coast (they show you on a map). But there's virtually no configuration or preferences....

The following websites review, compare, rate/rank, and choose "the best" from VPN service(s) in different categories (depending upon your primary intentions for using one) from among the more well-known titles:

Formerly "The Sweet Home", this website is also a great go-to resource for choosing/buying a wide variety of consumer things (best lawnmower, knives, apps, phones, services, gadgets --- you name it):

https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-vpn-service/

This website offers perhaps the most complete comparison charts regarding the world of VPN services (185 titles listed in the detailed table!):

https://thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn-section/

In addition to chosing what they consider "the best" for different purposes (perhaps ensuring that each major player is awarded a blue ribbon among various categories?), this website offers several useful tutorial-overview articles:

https://www.cloudwards.net/vpn/

Today's WhoAmI giveaway may be great in comparison to the more established players, but they would likely gain more credibility if they "got on the radar" and became among the listed titles on those websites. (Or at least they might size up their own capabilities against those other services so as to improve their offered product.)

Hope this is helpful to someone.

WhoAmI VPN Twitter account posted in 2017 that the service is in beta, I believe this service is free because they are testing it and not because they mining cryptocurrency as some people here claim without any evidence. No antivirus detects anything bad on the software.

It is normal for your desktop computer to have 20% or 30% CPU, it depends on many factors, it doesn´t mean you have a virus. Anyway domain name is registered to "Solid Oak Software" a USA company, the wayback machine on WhoAmI shows that 10 years ago Solid Oak Software was already using that domain name to sell their products.

It doesn´t look like a bad offer, the only thing is that you will be testing their product, and this explains why so few users at the moment as they launched recently.

Considering that more than 2000 participants have applied for this giveaway since I first visited today their https://www.whoamivpn.com/servers page states only 89 users are online across all the VPN endpoint servers... that's not many at all is the page providing real-time stats or fake data?

I wonder why the whoami.exe being a .NET executable is 35MBytes in size... .NET exe's are usually smaller than native executables ... what about VPN software needs all that bloat? It concerns me that the executable is not digitally signed either.

Jake, I was told by a reputable computer-repair-service I have a contract with (cough cough), that Opera's VPN is not a real VPN like the ones you can buy.

Reply   |   Comment by Jeff Starke  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Jake, Opera's VPN is not really a proper VPN, just a proxy. And it's certainly not private given they collect and sell the data transmitted via it.

Seems way too good to be true for $1 a month compared to legitimate VPNs.

Reply   |   Comment by rww  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

rww, It is NOT $1 a month but $5.99 a month for the 6 month plan equating to $34.99 semi-annually so they put it on the page:

Term 6 months. Servers are empty.
After the connection, you can not open sites and YouTube.
After the connection, the load on the video card increased to 30%. It looks like a miner cryptocurrency, no?

WHOAMI VPN ?

Servers online = 20 ?
Users online = 19 ?

Servers
Netherlands = 2
USA = 3
Czech Republic 5
Russia = 1
Bulgaria = 1
Moldova = 1
Hungary = 1

Is this a joke?

Reply   |   Comment by Megyn  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+51)

Also they don't have an an Android App so no use for tablets or phones.

Reply   |   Comment by RayW  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+19)

Megyn, absolutely a joke... imagine if the average number of giveaway users say 10000 ALL took up this 6 month trial the service would be swamped with streaming and torrent traffic and the entire VPN service would grind to a halt but on the other hand if the VPN client software is an illegal distributed cryptocurrency miner they would not care as the users frantically switch servers trying to find one that is not saturated not realising their systems resources are being hijacked by a trojan.... I note the original comment #1 has been deleted and to the user that replied "Really?", before the comment was deleted, to my assertions YES REALLY! That's why I don't use obscrure VPNs to attempt to hide my activity online... If I am concerned about being spied on on a given connection I don't do anything I'd be concerned about being made public knowledge.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+62)

Megyn, for each server there are more connections available.
Country selections:

Germany has 2 servers with each 150 connections -> 300

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

Ootje, but what is the bandwidth of the pipe used on each server to the internet backbone? Imagine if 100 torrent users on 300MBit fibre connections sit on servers what would be left for others? Do their servers have unlimited data traffic contracts or could they be maxed out and be taken offline until the next billing cycle... OR a single torrent could consume hundreds of connections by itself if the 150 connection limit is a bi-directional limit!

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  2 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

TK, You are right. I do not know, how fast their connection is per server. Or how many connections they have per server.
But I assume, that one connection can handle 100 person's with 100Mbit.
First come, first serve? or FUP; that I also don't know.
When I tested it today, it took a long time to get a connection with 2 server's.
I also tested a free VPN-server and that took just 1 sec, to get a connection.
Until Oct I also did had a abbo with another firm and also that one was faster in connection than the GOTD-program of today.
I just looked at their site and there were 3Tb uploaded and 0.250Tb downloaded
