This program ain’t bad but it definitely isn’t worth the asking price of $19.95.

When it talks and says the weather the voice is waaaaaay too robotic and I couldn’t understand a word that it was talking about. Anyone else have the same problem understanding the robotic voice that gives the weather?

There are many free weather alternatives out there and I couldn’t find anything that this weather program does better than those free alternatives. For free it’s a good download but I would NOT pay for this.

If you're on the exact north pole (magnetic or true, your choice) then the winds will be both out of and to the south. Kinda freaky.

You guys are a hoot! I've been watching this site for awhile. BTW, "myyahoo" supports it. Some interesting stuff here, and priced right. Weather Watcher by Kevin Singer rocks, free and quiet, I'll repeat #16.
Happy Christmas to all y'all and Al Gore, too. I was glad to help him win the Nobel prise. Weren't you? Well it is getting warmer, isn't it?

Again, not interested in which way the wind blows at the North Pole. Just interested in the reviews of the actual product. Has anybody had experience with it, yet? Does it slow your system down, or do things move smoothly? How accurate is the weather? Thanks GOTD! I come here every day, "just cause". :)

If you live in Australia this free software cannot be beaten the only add is the little "strongbow" symbol. other than that it supplies you with the current temp/forecast/radar/satellite/warnings/and weekly forecast.

Just put in your post code and away you go.

I have no additional comments on this from the last time it was offered, but there is another browser alternative. There is a weather button for the Google Toolbar (there may be other weather-related buttons, I haven't checked in a long time) which depicts the current sky condition with a graphic, displays the current conditions with a tooltip, and displays the forecast with a drop-down. The different weather sources used by these types of products report different conditions and forecasts. By the way, Google Toolbar 5 beta, currently IE only (as many new toolbars are, because of IE's greater market share), eliminates the need for the ieSpell and InlineSearch add-ons, and adds additional features (one of which is currently unavailable in IE7). Also, although Google competes with Microsoft and therefor pushes Firefox, they have a "Google-optimized" version of IE7 (I doubt it has the Toolbar beta).

As for the Earth's magnetic poles, it's quite likely that they're reversing, as they have in the past. The Earth's magnetic field is very weak compared to what it was even a few hundred years ago, and will probably soon enter a multi-polar (much more than two) state, but probably not within our lifetimes.

If you stand exactly on the north pole and are facing the wind, it is blowing from the north. But if you take one single step forward, it will be blowing from the south... :-)

Sorry, #29, but #19 is right. Your artificial compass rose analogy is not only irrelevant, but false and misleading, since if you are standing at the pole, wherever you look or point (except down or up) is south, no matter what your compass may indicate. No mystery to it, really, just a matter of once you have defined a point as being the extreme, ultimate, North then there is nowhere else that is farther north than it is and because the Earth is shaped like a globe, then at that point there is no more east or west either, and thus by a process of elimination, the only direction possible from there is south. Re #26, it could be either one, just don't confuse them. For instance, using normal geography, the magnetic pole will be south of the geographic pole unless they are exactly the same, but if you look at everything (not just partial) from the magnetic pole point of view, then the geographic pole will be south of the magnetic pole. Obviously they cannot both be south of each other at the same time in the same definition of things--these are alternate ways of looking at the same information separately. BTW, the compass would be useless at the magnetic pole, failing to give any accurate directional readings.

Get Weather Watcher instead, yeh you have to read it but the footprint is smaller. Been using it for a number of years, the author updates it semi-frequently. http://www.singerscreations.com/RSS/Posts/385.asp He also has a version thats for mobile use.

Well if I wanted to listen to poor syth. voice give me the WX forecast I'd turn on my noaa radio. :) May be of use for the visually impaired, but they may already have a text to speech app. to read them text
forecasts.

LOL perhaps I should change the name field to Jesus Christ and really freak out anyone who thinks big Al posts here.

If you would plunk a compass rose centered directly at the North pole, any wind coming from 0(zero) degrees will be display as coming from the North, from 315 as NW etc..
Sorry for the ramble just killing time intill the Xmas dinner.

Personally i use my own custom made toolbar with weather reports for my area its quicker, more convienent as well as clutter free. weatherbug is also a good in depth weather reporting program (just deal with the ads within it, but no popups from it which is good) iam sure this program offered today alot of people can use so thats a good thing, enjoy <(___)~

I use Weather Exchange. Works well with all versions of windows. Intergrates with Weather Underground and it not bloated with other useless crap.
This program is nice but rather read the weather the conditions than hear them, that's what common raido it for ( I Think ).
Thanks anyway.

#19—good point. But would North refer to the magnetic pole or geographic pole? ;)
I don't believe that Al Gore & his son actually visits the site. Kinda crappy program, but at least it's kinda accurate. Don't like the skin. Thanks anyway, GAOTD. Bon Noël tous.

Really, who needs to know the weather for 7500 different locations? I just need to know the weather for 1 location - Mine.

I agree with one of the poster here...it will simply clutter your system. If you are not looking for professional quality weather data for your location, just install ForcastFox extension for Mozilla Firefox. That will enable your browser to inform you all the necessary weather data and it will not tax your system at all. Do I have to mention that it is free so you do not need to worry about any kind of activation? There is one more benifit, if you use this Weather Aloud, you will need to connect to internet to be updated, but for the ForcastFox you do not need to tax your memory to connect to get updated. You only launch a browser when you want to be online and that is enough to get your weather data. No fuss, no firewall notification and more secured.

Thanks GAOTD for your service though. :)

Timbuctu, Mali:
Now: Sunny and very warm, 26C

Although I like and use constantly WeatherAloud you TNF can't come to know about the temperature and humidity in Timbuktu. You can do this with IE7Pro http://www.ie7pro.com/. Very useful Add-On, I recommend it. There are some other good features.

Thank you GAOTD and Nextup.com for the second chance allowed me to install this attractive software on my new laptop. No doubt, very useful tool during the traveling.

I'm having a problem I've never had with GOTD before. I get this program unzipped, activated and I go to install it. When I click 'Finish', I get a WeatherAloud error message saying "Failed to set data for WeatherAloud"

I clik OK, the only button to push and then WeatherAloud starts up. The minute it does, it shuts down again.

Anyone know anything about this? Yes, I have my firewall up, but I dropped it to activate the program, then put it back up again. I uninstalled WA, then installed it again, this time leaving the firewall down. Same thing.

???

if you have questions or problems running the software - you should try asking in the forums

Hello all! Today's 15-Minute Review is up! Check it out!

http://www.bladedthoth.com/reviews/15mrs/weatheraloud-v1-82/

This title appears to be the same version as the one previously featured by Giveaway on July 26th, 2007 ( http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/weatheraloud/ ) - Same revision number and after testing the application, there were no detectable changes that can be seen except the survey screen does not seem to appear this time.

Thank You!!!
I've tried several taskbar notifiers but to get them free you have to tolerate incessant advertising or use the "widget" style a' la Google Desktop, Yahoo Widgets, etc. The only reason I'm willing to have widgets running is if it'll have Outlook Calendar sync, but whenever that feature is enabled, my system (not a lightweight C2D E6600 OC'd to 3GHz w/ 4GB 1000MHz Ballistix Tracers) slows to a crawl. This program works just right with no noticeable overhead on the system. Only downside is that it has a fairly limited number of available cities. I have to use Sacramento instead of Davis, but that's okay. Thanks GOTD!

Just more nonsense junk to clutter the computer. Have you forgotten that any mobile phone can do the same any time you want.

I was to a house not long ago doing some work and the computer was on and constantly chattering. Very annoying I think. Things like your virus datta base is up to date, The local time is, You have three unread emails, you have six unread emails, Please rememver that the service man is coming to fix the washer, ???? will be here at nine to go over the changes in the script, That last one ws me and I was already there. Ifinally asked him to eather turn it off or down so we can hear each other.

Too much unnecessary trash. By the way the christmas program was a success. Not perfict but well for us.
