VPN Unlimited Support, Issue has not been fixed and based on your cocky reply I don't need this software, I'll find a different one that actually works!

Reply   |   Comment by Lisa  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-8)

Lisa, I don't see where anything was directed at you... Alexa was simply making a comment that aligns with all decent VPN providers, where you pay for more than one connection... i.e. more bandwidth. A Free 6 month trial is no different and generous enough.

    Hello,
I registered for this giveaway on June 10th and received my download link for the software. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to extract the files and install the VPN on my computer until now. I was never given a password and the link in the "readme" to get a licence key is not working anymore.
Is it too late now to get the license key for the giveaway I signed up for?
    Tks

There is an entry for this title in the "Simple" and "Detailed" feature and policy comparison charts (but no review) on this web site:

Because the detailed chart is wide, be sure to scroll it left and right to see all the columns of data.

Ok, downloaded the stand alone program, used code, got 6 mths Unlimited and have run a few tests. Saying that for this.
I have used many VPN over the years. Mostly to test them and run them through a gauntlet. In the early days, many failed miserably. Either speeds were at a turtle's pace (sorry turtle's), DNS leaked like a sieve, number of servers could be counted on 1 hand, Netflix etc blockades etc etc etc.
Over the years, a great number have pulled up their socks, but are still a tad slow, have leaky DNS diapers and or expensive. ExpressVPN comes to mind as expensive and lately a tad slow.
H.M.A....should continue to hide. IPVanish isn't bad service other than it is dang expensive/mth and server selection is lacking (although they are increasing).
Seed.4.Me is an invite only service but needs work with it's speeds, pricing, server locations and leaky DNS. FastestVPN...that was a a waste of money with continuous dropped connections, slight DNS leakage (slight as in it depends on which server locale you log into), and very limited server selection. 1 location in Canada??
Windscribe has come a long way and continues to push forth, and I have stayed with them...good server selection, no leaks, choice of connection protocols (OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2, WireGuard, split tunneling) a tad expensive unless you can grab them with their sales on.
I have also used VPN Unlimited in the past and it seems to have improved. Speed, connection protocols ( OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2, KeepSolid Wise protocols, WireGuard, split tunneling) no leaks (so far) so I shall give them another test run.
P.S. If you can, download and install the standalone program for Windows, not the app from the Microsoft store. That app seems to have issues (Microsoft had their mitts on it)

using keepsolid VPN for about a Year, it has great Speed and awesome latency.
only issue for me is that it gets blocked in our country occasionally and it takes weeks to get fixed.
one other thing is their application, it takes too long to start.

but overall when it connect, I wouldn't have a single issue.

VPN Unlimited Support, I understand that, my comment actually said it's free for 6 months only. GOTD always used to be unrestricted free programs and it is now gradually moving to free for a year, free for 6 months etc which is the reason I said it's not for me. Thanks for your response.

    To all:

It has been over five years since I last commented here on GOTD (okay, I was really busy... ), but some of todays comments have spurred me to do so again. There are some folks who apparently don't understand the costs of running a large, distributed network of servers, located in "co-located" facilities (aka co-lo's) around the world, supported by a 24-7 staff, and paying major, tier-1 carriers (e.g., in the US, companies like AT&T, and in Europe, companies like British Telecom) for bandwidth (i.e., data transfer).

Having worked in this field, during the heyday of the dot-com companies (for a leading bandwidth provider), I can tell you that it is a VERY expensive playing field. Even if the folks at VPN Unlimited salvaged all of their servers from somebody else's trash pile, and used the free Linux operating system, the cost remote of facilities that house their serves, the remote staff that services them (e.g., security, electricians, HVAC types, etc.), their in-house staff of administrators, programmers, and security-focused types, and a 24-7 control center to monitor the network, PLUS the cost of the bandwidth from the various Tier-1 providers (and, in most locations, Tier-2 regional providers who connect to the big Tier-1 types, since the Tier-1 providers usually only want to work with [also known as "peering"] the other Tier-1 carriers), it takes a great deal of on-hand operating cash to run a business like theirs. While I have never used this company's product, the fact that they say they operate 400+ servers in multiple countries leads me to believe that they are well funded enough that they won't disappear the way so many other companies have in this industry.

Therefore, a hearty thanks to the folks at VPN Unlimited for going beyond their normal 7-day free trial period, and offering us UNLIMITED and (and, given the number of folks who visit GOTD on a daily basis) damned expensive bandwidth. I WILL be trialing your services as a result of this offer (to be honest, with so many VPN providers to choose from, the typical 7-day freebie wouldn't interest me).

And, thanks to your support team for actually watching these posts, AND RESPONDING, unlike so many vendors who come to GOTD, but can't seem to be bothered to respond to reasonable comments, or even grumbling...

BruceM > My apologies for some of the typos and grammatical mistakes in my oost. To my knowledge, GOTD doesn't let you edit your post once it is submitted, and, well, you can see the effects of a "stream of consciousness" rant coupled with typing on a cell phone while on a train... oh, well...

BruceM, "There are some folks who apparently don't understand the costs of running a large, distributed network of servers". True but do you expect them to?

Do you know about the complexities of every industry and how many processes and people are used to produce even the cheapest of goods? No and I would not expect you to.

But hey, I can buy many a dirt cheap product that is the result of these processes and the people selling them still make healthy profit.

If you have the right number of customers, which Keepsolid must have then you stay in business.

So I'm afraid your words, that may be spoken from a well meaning place, don't really have any great significance and where one vendor can provide more locations etc than another then thy become less so because it then becomes fair comparison for a prospective purchaser to consider services.

BruceM, Some VPN companies sell lifetime accounts for $30, there has to be a trick somewhere, I have been using a VPN like that, and 4 years later, still working fine.

Reply   |   Comment by JB  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

PhilS, actually, you are quite wrong. Over the last 40 years, I have worked in just about every industry that uses, or buys, computer-based technology (from PCs to networks to real-time industrial computers to computer-based vision inspection systems to embedded computers to... ), either as a direct employee, a consultant, or, at times, a bit of both, and from a junior engineer to multiple “C-level” positions. Whether the application involved automating a tanker, or the port it docked in, an automotive plant or a unit-process within a plant, the food industry or the pharmaceutical, the military or.... a LOT of companies and industries (this is what happens, unfortunately, when you find that you've become a workaholic---even to the extent that you can't break that type of an addiction and you end up squandering relationships that, in the long run, were more important than the next "oooh, that looks shiny" project). Had you asked, I might have given you a slightly different answer (e.g., not a thumbnail of my CV/resume), but, instead, out of arrogance, you chose to offer insult instead. With my background, I do know a heck of a lot about the cost of goods sold (from the raw materials to how manufacturing costs vary by country, from the cost of packaging to the landed cost in, primarily, either the US or Canada [sorry Europe, but the VAT issues are too complicated to stay on top of]).

A reasonable criticism of my comment, had you been a bit less arrogant yourself, might have been to ask me why I might have thought other people should know as much as I do about industries that I have worked in (such as the VPN industry, which is a very large consumer of the type of bandwidth products I used to be responsible for launching/selling on a global basis for a dot-com start-up, and which, for many of these companies, is often their single largest expense). Since you didn’t think to recognize that I was bit (foolishly) arrogant in my comment, when I said “folks who apparently don't UNDERSTAND the costs” rather than saying something like “I can see that many folks on GOTD aren’t FAMILIAR with… “, I will apologize to the other folks on GOTD for both of us.

As far as dirt cheap products, I’m sure you buy many of them, and the quality they represent. As to whether a profit is being made, that is often debatable. In the heyday of the dot-com industry, the gross (top-line) revenue was all that mattered, as it showed both customer and market-share growth. The fact that my company, as well as most of the others were losing money (the bottom-line) was seen as a positive thing back then, as it meant that nobody really knew how to value our company and instead tried to think about the future value of all that market share we were “buying” (which always reminded me of the old sales joke [apparently started when the first two salesmen met] about how we “lost money on each unit, but made it up in volume!!!” {even though humor doesn’t always translate well across borders or languages, I hope this joke is straight-forward enough that it will}). A good example of a company that has lost money for most of its life is Amazon, but investors still put money into it as their market share continued to grow.
This is also why your comment about the Keepsolid folks (“If you have the right number of customers… then you stay in business”) is completely wrong (see salesmen’s joke above). Having a large number of customers, without enough revenue, just means that you are losing money faster than you might otherwise have done. The fact that they have chosen to eat the cost of expensive bandwidth is a marketing decision, in which they hope a temporary, but large, increase in their operating expenses will be offset in the future by new customers gained (something that both the management AND their investors had to evaluate). Even though the cost of bandwidth, like other technologies, has come down a bit over the years, it will never drop as dramatically as, say, the cost of a new, Windows-based PC, since the cost of laying fiber-optic cables (whether trenching across the land, or, even more expensively, laying them across oceans), will always be expensive, and therefore the people who own them are limited as to how much they can reduce the charges for shipping a company’s data across them.

As far as my words “don't really have any great significance,” I beg to differ, and seriously doubt that you have any understanding of this industry, or any other, besides the “dirt cheap” products you buy at your local discount store. I suspect that most people here will decide that it is your words that “don't really have any great significance,” rather than mine.

    TK,

Thanks for the tip. And thank you for the many years you have been thoughtfully commenting on the different products offered on GOTD, especially since English is not your first language. Sadly, I just hope that someday you will find it in your heart to move on from Windows XP (it was something that we've all had to face over time... ). I hope you will continue to share your comments, and criticisms, with us.

Reply   |   Comment by BruceM  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

BruceM, I too have worked for many decades in the industry but it is irrelevant to your comments, which I am afraid are completely misplaced. As I said, people don't know how everything that they purchase is produced and what processes are involved and that includes you, so when you speak of arrogance, I am afraid that it comes squarely from yourself in not really living on the same planet as most others. You could go on about the inception of a VPN service from the discovery of the atom to the finished product but it is meaningless in terms of the average person picking a product or service. Nobody will start their cars tomorrow and ponder the production of the fuel that power them along because they don't need to. They will have far more focus on what the price per gallon is and where they can get it from. Dinosaur fossilisation will not come into the thought process. Focus on what is real to the average person and not on what Einstein might think. This ain't rocket science, so trying to make it so is counter productive.

I already have a lifetime subscription to this and have used for about 4 years now.

On the whole it is quite good and fairly recently they included dns leakage protection and a killswitch.

There are also specific servers to bypass geo blocking, so if you want to watch BBC iPlayer but are not in the UK, you can do that and there are servers for hulu, amazon, hbo. disney, netflix etc

I've not tested a whole lot of other VPN products but of those that I have, most have resulted in network speeds that make it not worth considering.

Speeds will always vary anyway to some extent dependant upon the chosen server location and how much it is being used.

All in all I get value for money and there are addon packages available to extend the number of devices, years etc

Support is very good and when you raise a ticket they are very fast with their responses.

The one downside if torrents are your thing is that the range of servers is very limited, with only 5 being available, 1 of which is in the USA, so not the best place for one. The other being Canada, France, Luxembourg and Romania.

All in all there are 14 specific locations and 11 for getting around geo blocking streaming.

Upon request they will also provide you with a list of personal OPVN files for use under other services, like Kodi for example, where there a generic VPN service that requires manual setup.

Definitely worth a try if nothing else and I am a happy enough camper.

After reading the developers responses to questions here and their out right arrogance not only will I pass on this I will advise everyone I know to do so as well. TG I have a free 60 G p m lifetime account with Windscribe VPN :)

P.S. this company can learn from them how to run a VPN and treat potential clients properly

Peter van Rijswijk, I have the same 60GB LIFETIME giveaway offering a while back from Windscribe. that company IN MY OPINION is the worst of the worst when it comes to VPN's! Read their privacy policy first and foremost, if you don't understand it, ask around, they do not have a ZERO LOG POLICY.

Why do I say this about Windscribe? Because they treat everyone like a child. You install their VPN software and if you choose the custom install option it gives you these stupid "Do you want slow connections stuff" and then says just kidding and all that joking stuff. That says a lot from the start how they take your privacy seriously. I for one would never trust any service who's installers don't take you and your privacy serious from the start like Windscribe does. Your probably praising them because you got the free 60GB a month for free, just like I did, but the truth is, that 60GB comes with a price. Like I said : "They do not have a Zero Log Policy". In fact, your praise of them here just goes to show that they played you like a violin, meaning your chirping out their praises while having no idea as to how they just manipulated you into advertising for them. Just my opinion.

No, I disagree, this company doesn't need to learn from Windscribe and their childish emails and install custom stuff. This company seems to take your privacy seriously, and they don't treat you like a child.

Not to be rude, but you must be a lot younger than me because the developers from what I have read here have responded with open doors of information about their service. And while I realize they can't answer all of the questions here at once because there are simply too many, they've answered all the real important ones from what I can see in a very timely manner.

    Have a nice day! :-)

FROM 6 Years of THiS USER:
    1. Apart from offering few servers in a number of countries (for example Only SYDNEY Server in Australia which means being forced to accept Daylight Savings TiME Settings [ QUEENSLAND or its Capitol City BRiSBANE based servers would be of THiS USER's preference because Queensland is the only State or territory that does not shift time zones AND Strictly adheres too: Australian Eastern Standard TiME]) Although when I'm making an oonline purchase - depending on where the product is I will normally change Servers to suit.

    2. Over the last 18 Months(?) experience approximately halfway thru version 6.x Program Updates, VPN Unlimited Developed Program NO LONGER accepts THiS Users preferences to use Open VPN settings and instead the program appears to prefer the companies own iKEV or IKEV2 privately developed protocols.

    3. They appear to have developed a number of new programs/options that requires pre-existing user's (such as myself) to have to pay for newly developed features.

So as always: USER or Buyer Beware

andario, Several hours later, I finally lost my patience. I´ve tried recovering my password as a last resort, and the system doesn´t even recognize my email (!).
Good thing I created a restore point, logged the installation with Iobit Pro, and even made a backup with Macrium, so at least my system doesn´t get screwd by this POS (Piece Of Software, obviously).
Unfortunately, I made the naive mistake of giving this software a thumbs up beforehand, which is something GOTD doesn´t allow me to change, "surprisingly".
As such, off to bed now, and another wasted POS I will certainly remember.
    "Thanks".

NOT user-friendly! Installed fine, registered fine. Now what? I'm not a tech wizard, I'm just a guy at home. I have read pages and pages on their website as well as linked pages. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT! I'm logged into my 'office' but it tells me nothing. 'HELP' is just about installing. There is a lot of technical stuff about configuring manually I don't know what to do. Why doesn't it link its self to my windows computer and say, "OK click here to start or stop"? I downloaded 'OpenVPN Connect' but it isn't automatic. It has input fields that I don't l don't know how to complete. After an hour and thirty five minutes, I have nothing.

Installed after the matter with the code was fixed. Chose Canada as the place of my IP address. I went to Google and typed in, " What's my IP address ? " It gave me my real IP address. I tried with 3 other locations, same thing happened. Here's a tip worth a million bucks. If you want a VPN that really works, first time every time, you're going to have to pay for it. If paying $35.00 a year for REAL protection is too steep for you then remember, when you're downloading torrents and you get caught and have to get a new ISP provider, ask yourself if $35.00 a year would have been worth the trouble ?.

I've had this 3-4 years now and only one problem which tech support helped me with. They are always having specials for a lifetime license for $39.99 which is when I got it. It doesn't seem to throttle your bandwidth like some do, and they have servers all over the world. I like it and it is reasonably inexpensive.

Gave up trying after jumping through too many hoops. Does it have to be so complicated and drawn out ? All we want is a straight-forward installation and a chance to try the programme. We then decide if we want to subscribe to the application in the future. I did fancy this, but at the ripe old age of 77 it had my head spinning!

Eda, where does it say you can watch Netflix for free? Netflix is a subscription-based service. A VPN can help you bypass blocks or restrictions to the service, which is something some people experience. And why should anyone write out detailed instructions for you on how to not pay for Netflix?

I just retried the same code that you sent today and got this error.

My guess is that your system is getting confused because we previously used a code in your earlier giveawayoftheday offer.

    Palle,

My experience was that when I tried to apply the code to the account that I created in Aug., 2019 when they gave a free 6-month trial, the code did not work. I created a new account with a different e-mail address and applied the code and it worked just fine. When I downloaded the most recent version of the app, I logged into the new account and the service works as it's supposed to.

I think when they say multiple codes cannot be applied to the same account, this is what they mean, so when the "official" answer from VPN Unlimited support says the offer is "for all users", they're saying that they are ok with people who have created an account previously to create a new account in order to take advantage of this GotD offer.

"Best" VPN? I have checked half a dozen lists of (paid) VPNs, with the top 5, 7 or 10 products. This one is not on any of them! So, "best"? Based on what? Plus, there are a lot of good free VPNs out there...

Yanco, Can you give a list of "good" free VPNs? Does "good" mean uncapped? No capacity limit at all? No log?

TK, Thank you; I agree with you (protection) but sometimes, abroad, I like to watch a program in my country and need a VPN to circumvent the "broadcast" rights (grey zone as you say although this should be authorized... if the normal residence country is taken in account!)

I've been a subscriber for about two years and believe that KeepSolid has a good product. I use it on my laptop and iPad, especially when I travel, and appreciate the added layer of security.

Will Teamviewer work with this? I have found that any messing with servers makes Teamviewer think you are using it for business purposes and stops working on your local network.

Rubycat, it should work, mostly depends on the network configuration you have. Free code for 6 month will allow you to test the service to see if it satisfies your needs without paying for it. Feel free to reach our 24/7 support service via support@keepsolid.com anytime you have any questions or need help.

Michael, the website you refer to is a joke, they work in the following way:
If you are a VPN provider, you either pay them money to get a high rank, or else they put you on 70th place mentioning you're not user-friendly ;)

    Michael,
Well it looks like I can just bypass my own comment #38 and my comment and go straight to removal. Its been over an hour anyway.

Robert, it is simple - check several different "VPN review" websites online, and see the rankings there. You'll be surprised to see that most of these websites tend to have completely opposite reviews of the same services. Also, the VPN services that are promoted on these websites via ads and banners are usually on the 1st places in the rankings, which is kinda odd, don't you think? ;)

Anyway, we do not expect the readers to believe our words against someone else's, this was simply a reply to Michael's comment.

This is a free giveaway website, no one is obligated to download and use our service, if they don't want to. We wish you a wonderful weekend!

Robert, in what way? It's the truth, those websites do not operate without making money, or being financed in one way or another, anyone who thinks otherwise has no idea how the world works.

What do they call the money that they get to operate "Donations"? And are they just doing their reviews out of the "Kindness of their heart". I seriously doubt that.

Perhaps they are a subsidiary of some of the more better financed VPN's which use those reviews as a tax write off by means of the clause which allows write offs for advertising : "Hence, considered advertising, not getting paid".

This is the internet, rule #1 "TRUST NOONE!".

As for me, It's a VPN, I ran test on it and it's working great for me, it passed every leak test I tried. It's 6 months free. Some people are stupid and don't know how to use computers so they might not have the same results as me, but I for one am no novice by any means and that is my review, on the reviewers and the software being offered here today.

Lot of competition with VPN's these days, and some of the more popular ones have people they employ for advertisement who's sole job is to try and stomp out the competition with anti comments. That's a fact, but that is what all businesses are doing on the internet and especially those that consist of using the internet as a business in some ways. Some will get it, some have no idea.

Just my opinion, but you said "WE PAY", meaning you are obviously associated with the review in question, or if you are not then why not say who you are with to begin with or not with? Your reply is suspicious to me. I stated how this worked for me.

And BTW : I am not affiliated with no companies at all, I for one am currently unemployed because of Covid 19 and am scraping by day to day like I a great majority of people who frequent this site. I am very thankful for the 6 month unlimited data usage with no restrictions opportunity.

    Have a nice day!

Michael, It has a very simple to use GUI program, so I cant understand it not being seen as user friendly.

NO VPN provider is log free, that is a myth because without some stats they cannot hope to maintain an efficient service and improve upon it.

It's a not a red flag situation and I wonder if you have simply read the headlines and not the underlying article.

Professor, thanks for your comment, we fully agree with you on this. Great to know there are people who don't get fooled by these paid scam review websites. We are pleased to hear you are enjoying VPN Unlimited so far, and we hope you'll have a great time using our service in the future. Stay safe!

Robert, .... All review sites, including yours, survives from affiliate link and advertisement payments and thus, all are suspect. What I like about your site is the information provided that may or may not be able to be duplicated by another user in another location. At issue with ALL VPN services is they constantly change... some improve and some become worthless.

Michael, Their Review is way too outdated.
you can't judge VPN because of reviews, you have to check them yourself!

review websites don't work for free and there should be always something to keep you motivated, these services ain't cheap and they should pay for them to be able to test them.

so don't trust anything you read online!
