Regardless of whether my anti-virus is on or off, this software does not go through an install process. It just loads as an app from the unzipped executable. Is this correct?

It can't be considered an MS Office replacement. Far from it, despite the developer's claim. The software is still in its testing stage. It's a play around but definitely *not* keep-it type. Some basic functions are unresponsive. Even spellcheck isn't working. Oh, and you can't save any adjustments you make inside the program, except for the app skin. Everything else is back to factory default next time you start this app.
Verdict: WPS Office or Open Office is your tested working solution, if you want a true replacement for MS.

Vole Office Ultimate is a portable app taking up ~225MB of disk space. I was surprised at first, starting this light weight app, since you're presented with what seems to be a blank screen -- click one of the headings to start the word processor etc. Depending on what you're after, it's workable, though if you're expecting a full-tilt office suite you'll be disappointed. The online Google Docs is of course one alternative, as is the open source LibreOffice, which also comes in a portable version, though the latest version is currently not available as a portable app. There's also a new release of SoftMaker FreeOffice available, which like the regular LibreOffice is a full installation with multiple folders, lots of new registry entries etc. You can however choose to install just one or two of the included office apps during the install routine.

This is a little too lightweight for me. There is no (real) help, no thesaurus, one cannot embed the fonts, etc. I DO understand that the list price is USD 10!
I (strongly) prefer & recommend WPS Office for a lightweight alternative & I use it every day.

This is a neat little program that includes all of the basics of MS Office --- all integrated. They all seem to work fine; although there are some minor limitations, but the average user should not fee those. This is a good product and a good deal as long as a monthly charge does not kick in. I applaud this Giveaway offer. 5 stars!

Colin, I don't think so. I could open an Excel sheet with macros, but I could not run them.
