Please read this guide if you are not sure how to register the software.
Step 1. Download Zip package from GOTD. Unzip the Package and run setup.exe to install the software.
Step 2. Run this software and a pop-up window will appear, on which you can see the comparison between free trial and registered version. Meanwhile, just find and click the "Get Free License" button at the bottom-left corner.
If the "Get Free License" button doesn't appear, just directly click the link: https://www.vidmore.com/cooperation/vidmore-player-giveaway/ to enter into the registration page for getting the free license code.
Step 3. You will be redirected to the registration page. Input your name and email address, then click the "Get Free License" button. An email will be sent to your email address automatically.
If you do not receive your license key after several hours, please check your spam or junk mail folder.
Step 4. Return to the software and copy and paste the received registration code under "Registration Code" and click "Activate" to activate the software. If you encounter an internet connection error when activating, please try using another internet connection.
Cannot find the original comparison window? Just click the “Register” button (A lock image at the top) in the main interface of this software.

I did not like that this player takes over as the default video player without asking. Also, each time it starts, an advertising page opens, plus it has that bottom-right corner advertising. I do not see the advantage of this over the reigning champion of "free video players (you know who I'm talking about)."

As for your situation, you could uncheck “The program will play the DVD or Blu-ray disc automatically while DVD or Blu-ray disc is inserted” under “Tools”>”Preference”.

Your suggestion has nothing to do with what I was referring to. In fact, the option you suggest is already unchecked by default. It has nothing to do with whether the player replaces the user's default player for video with itself, and without asking permission to do so. Add to that the "in your face" advertising, and you have over-reached your privileges.
I have a better idea. Don't ever take over a user's defaults without asking to do so, and ask only once. It is called respect. Your claim of how it compares to VLC is meaningless because VLC already does the same.

I like this program because it works well and is easy to use for simple tasks. Unfortunately it' s only a one year license and the mentioned price of 29.95$ is a one-month license for one PC. The only interesting license is the lifetime for 3 PCs at 59.95$. It's too expensive compared to free alternatives. And that's a pitty.

It's pretty basic. It has no aspect ratio, no option to alter brightness, colour saturation etc, no audio/video effects. It's too simple for me so I'll stick to VLC and SM Player.
