@ my Comment #6: I was correct, just didn't remember the name. Leawo offers a free version of their Blu-Ray player, with fewer features than its Pro version. I installed it, but have barely used it yet. With that very limited basis of observation, both of these appear to be reasonably capable for the task at hand. So it's good to know that we are not forced to purchase one like PowerDVD, which I seem to recall has restrictive hardware support and DRM prohibitions. Personally, I don't care to kowtow to the BR licensing authority . . . .

This kind of thing has always confused me. So before I install it...
I have a 32" Ultra HD 4K curved Monitor.
I use the Daum PotPlayer.
If I install the Vidmore Player am I going to see a noticeable improvement in picture quality if I play the same Blueray mkv file with both players?

Nektar, It is possible but far from easy to play blu-ray discs with VLC and MPC. This player - and some lookalikes - play blu-rays out of the box.

1st off, use the codec packs at your own risk... it is quite possible to break media playback &/or other apps/players.
RE: freeware or open source players, the Vidmore Player *can in some cases* be easier to use, e.g. VLC likes to open FHD video full size, and I usually prefer it initially in a smaller window to preview, but on balance it does not offer everything VLC or MPC-Homecinema does. For DVD & Blu-ray it manages DRM, which players like VLC cannot. Players like PowerDVD pay whatever fees for a license to those controlling DVD & Blu-ray specs & DRM, so you get full menus [including Blu-ray Java], but because they follow specs they will not play a copied disc if it has Cinavia protection. The Vidmore Player OTOH doesn't care about Cinavia, but, you won't get the full experience from things like Java-based menus and features.

Nektar, the only advantages over free players are, most (but not all) guarantee to able play encrypted BD or DVD movies disc, since they possibly have CSS or AACS decryption keys to play them. VLC AFAIK, only support play encrypted DVD if you have installed libdvdcss, and tweaking AACS library which confuse for non-technical users. Ironically, most of commercials players (but not all) were just 'nicer' frontend of open source FFMPEG library for support media decoding, and some of them even violate GPL license terms. Also, there's myth (unlike mike said, it just FUD) that free players breaks media playbacks, you just only install well known players/codecs like VLC and K-Lite Codecs packs from trustworthy source. So there's no reason to install this if you never or rarely watch from encrypted physical media, or just use well known PowerDVD which often bundled in DVD/BD drive package.
