“I have just a question: what’s this sw for?”

If you have to ask, you don’t need it.

#9's question is quite legitimate given the next sentence :
"I mean why one should spend money for creating animated GIF from videos?"

which shows #9 understood the purpose of this GOTD very well.
Only he didn't realize that (for example) webmasters prefer light gif to the usual hefty video files.
Don't stop people's curiosity and remember what they said when Babbage showed his plans for the first computer : "Worthless" !

Super-easy installation and registration. I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks so much, GAOTD and Thundersoft!

Win7 32bit.

(1) I began installing from within an Administrator user account; my antivirus (ESET) complained that something was suspicious (potentially unwanted), but I ignored it; so the program installed and ran; I entered registration details, and all was sweet.

(2) I logged out of the Administrator user account, and into a Standard user account. I ran the program, but it wanted the Administrator Account password before it would allow the program to run. Apparently, it requires full administrator rights in order to operate. If that is indeed the case, that is a serious worry. Ordinary programs should normally be run only under standard user accounts for security reasons.

Does this program always need elevated user rights, or is this just my machine?

By way of a check, I tried installing the program on a second machine (Win7, this time 64bit). Once again, my antivirus complained, only this time, I was given no option to override it - the installation immediately stopped with an error message: Failed to launch the program. This happened *before* I could respond to the AV program.

Thus: I have the program installed in disabled state on one machine - unusable within the Standard User Account - and uninstallable on a second machine.

Enki_Amenra, The downside to using a gif-maker website such as gifsoup.com is that those sites add a watermark/bug at the bottom corner of the gif. There won't be any watermarks on your gif if you use this software.

One difference I can think of is that usually, when you use an online product like that, you are giving away a copy of your photo/video to the site.

something I found amusing...

For a company selling an animated gif maker, why aren't there any on their web site? You'd think that would be a given.

#17,

Everything (will mostly do that).
Use the 'Picture' filter & it will immediately display your picture files.
(Everything only works on NTFS formatted drives, though you can use its' 'Folders' feature to index other drives.)

I like to make gifs from time to time, so a software such as this interests me. However, I am left scratching my head...

Why download a software that performs just 1 function when there are multiple, free to use, online gif-maker websites - such as gifsoup.com?

These type of sites perform the same function and they do so without the need to download or install any add-ons or other software. What makes this software better than the service offered on the gif-maker websites?

Downloaded on Windows 8 64 bit Desk top with no issues. Hint: Read the text message after unzipping the file. I always create a new folder renaming it and then move the zip file into the folder before unzipping the file. I do this because often file names are exactly the same from previous GAOTD offerings ex. Read me. Set up, etc.

This program works perfectly for me and so easy to use. There is virtually no learning curve-just use it.

@#6 Lenny, that's happening because you are not logged in with Admin rights. Press "SHIFT" and right click the setup.exe and choose run as a different user. That will give you the box to put in the admin username and password. Now windows will let you install the GOTD.

To Thundersoft and GOTD, THANK YOU!
Besides being very quick to crop, segment, and convert to a reasonably sized file, the program was very quick & easy to install in my Win7x64 box. Next, one of the biggest issues I have with many GOTDs is mail-back registration hoops, etc. You guys do it right! The registration number is included with a software package that does what it says. This is a keeper! I do push products on customers and friends after learning about them here.

P.S. - And Zan (in comment 17) Picasa from the Google finds and displays image files in an organized form ,on any combination of drives and folders you point it to.

@#17 Zan While your question is off topic, you can use FileSearchy found at the following link to achieve your desired result.

http://www.filesearchy.com/

Use the asterisk wildcard in your search term i.e. *.jpg will find all jpg files, *.gif will find all gif files, etc. Additionally, you can select the "Picture" option and search for *.* to find all images of any format.

Thanks to GOTD and ThunderSoft for today's giveaway.

Downloaded and installed with no problem. Coincidentally I was working on a video-to-GIF in Photoshop CC when I noticed this giveaway so I was able to compare the results of the two side-by-side. Thundersoft did a far better job with a much smoother result.

I wish it had some video enhancement built in since my video lacked contrast and saturation.

Pretty easy interface.
EULA was very simple and straight forward.
Install was right out of the box on my Windows-7 64.
~
If there was a simple word function, somewhat akin to the information placards used in silent films, that would hit this right out of the park. Able to use that to intro the gif or use as a scene change would be so easy but so effective.

Thoroughly agree with XP-Man (easy install on Windows 7 for me) as to everything functioning as it should. Tried to leave 'Suggestion' as to having it remove color and leave B&W/Greyscale, but that process is obviously much more complicated than this program.

The GOTD offer comes with these terms and conditions: Please note that the software you download and install during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations: 1) No free technical support; 2) No free upgrades to future versions; 3) Strictly personal usage.

The full version offered at a discount (around 50%) by ThunderSoft during the giveaway just removes those limits (Nothing more/Nothing less) for $9.95 (instead of $19.95).

Have a nice day

:)

It doesn't do too much, but it does what it says: Video to GIF. As long as it supports the input format, you can make a GIF from it. Super simple, but you want to do any/all of your editing before you convert, because beyond conversion this is useless. I don't mean that as a knock on the product, just warning to anyone expecting more functions. Personally, I found the results acceptable and will keep this on my computer until I find something I like better. Thanks ThunderSoft and GOTD.

Downloaded, but can't install, when running the setup.exe file a blank box appears on the screen then vanishes, afterwards I get the GOTD message that the product has been successfully installed - It hasn't!

Tried a second download and got an error message saying that the file was corrupted. Not going to waste any more time on this. Using Win 7 Pro, 64 bit.

Complete waste of time - This seems to happen quite often with downloads fromn GOTD any solution to this?

I've been using Adobe After Effects to do this. I don't need such a complicated program to do something so simple, so this giveaway catches my attention.

Installing this program was pretty straight-forward. It opens up, asks for registration info, then away you go. The interface is intuitive. Import a video and you can select the exact video frames you want the gif to start and end at. You can also crop the video. There is a settings button that allows you to adjust output dimensions, frame rate, frame speed, and how many times the gif is set to run (usually set to infinite). There are drop down options for each settings, but you can also type in a specific value if the value you want is not in the list.

The main interface does not reflect the gif settings you have applied. It just displays the original video, a red outline over the video if you've applied cropping (you can change that color in the options menu), and below that is a series of frames that make up the original video which is just there so you can specify which frames to start and stop at. There is a play button that allows you to play the entire video, or play just the section of the video you want in your gif. When you have made all your adjustments, you click the Convert button and another window opens up that gives you a preview of what the actual gif will look like. Then you can proceed to name and save your gif.

I noticed that there are no options for compression settings. You really have no idea how big the output file is going to be in file size until you export it and go inspect the file. This can be a concern for some users that have to work with gif size limits. The output file appears to be a nice representation of the video, which means it is not very compressed and could lead to large file sizes. You would either have to play around with the frame rate and output frame size, a process of guess and check, if you want to keep a gif under a certain file size, or you would need another program like Photoshop to convert a gif to the file size you desire. In my case, this program simplifies a step in a process of many steps I take to compose a unique custom animated gif, so that gets a thumbs up from me.

A simple installation and registration that opened up to a simple and usable interface that made it easy to test on a number of video files.
Selection of the start and finish is simple, just click on the start and end buttons when the video is playing or stopped.
By right clicking on a frame you can restore or delete it.
You have a choice of a number of output sizes including custom.
Lots of potential to make interesting little gift animations for the grandchildren, it would have been so much better if it was possible to insert frames from images.
I really liked this little program it has lots of potential given a little more functionality.

A special offer is mentioned for getting the full version of the product. But I searched the site and couldn't find the difference(s) from the offered version.

So the obvious questions are: what extra features does the full version have and are we getting a "light" or reduced version for free?
