I could be wrong but it is possible the much reported high cpu usage at least in part may be due to the program defaulting to use a legacy method to try and connect to the clipboard instead of using the vista and above method.

You will find the setting in the twinkiepaste editor on the low to mid right side titled:

Clipboard Spy Method
select "Use method for Windows Vista and later [AddClipboardListener]" if your version of windows is Vista or newer.
It immediately reduced the peaks of CPU usage on the next start and so far has not maxed out the CPU again... a tentative hope maybe...

I'm using 2.16 it registers fine but the program then proceeds to consume all available CPU resources making all cores usage to stick at 100% with everything grinding to almost a standstill. Having to use taskmanager to end the task to stop cooking the CPU.

If the resource usage was solved it looks like a potentially powerful tool that could have uses in back office admin with repetitive typing tasks semi-automated using this... but in the current state it is unusable.

The license we are given does work with the portable edition but the license is not portable across different locations, so probably would require re-applying the license each time you move from one machine to another with your USB stick assuming you weren't plagued by the maxed out CPU usage with it.

TK, 1) Change the clipboard spy method on Windows Vista and later.
2) License information is portable. See here: http://amlpages.com/twinkiepaste_buy.shtml#input

Carc, yes i discovered the fix for the high cpu usage some time ago and posted it shortly after in comment https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/twinkie-paste-2-15/#comment-502992

1) May I suggest that the option is removed and the clipboard spy method be determined programatically based upon the windows version number returned by the windows API? That way it will work on all supported versions of windows WITHOUT having to launch the editor if you switch your portable USB thumb drive between a windows XP SP3 machine and a Vista or above machine to change the clipboard spy method to the correct compatible method!

2) In my case I unzipped the portable zip and ran then applied the license zip as instructed, solved the CPU usage problem then decided to copy the portable folder into the folder that hosts several portable program folders on my system. When I ran the previously license imported portable moved folders trinkiepaste.exe it reported it was a trial and required me to re-import the license zip once again. So in my experience the license did not remain active when moved to a different path.

TK, Please, write me to email twp hot amlpages dot com. I'll tell you what to do with this license for portability.

TK, about Clipboard Tracking Method:
Yes, of course.
If You set new method for clipboard tracking, TwinkiePaste try to use this method.
If new method is unvailabe, TwinkiePaste will be use old method. E.g. in WinXP\2K.

This is make on the fly. Does not change Your settings of Clipboard tracking. You can see current method of Clipboard tracking in tooltips for menu commands.

Carc, if the program will silently fall back to legacy method from modern method it should default to modern method in the settings and not default to legacy method which does not work on vista and above and in fact causes the excessive CPU usage and eventual lockup instead of falling forward to the modern method when the configured method fails because it is not compatible with the vista and above security models.

If the installer and portable versions defaulted to the vista method and silently fell back to XP/W2K method on first run you would never had the reports of excessive CPU usage overshadowing the good comments that have been posted.

TK, You no understand me.
1) TwinkiePaste does not change Your settings automatically. Never

2) But TwinkiePaste use old method automatically, when modern method is unavailable. But NO change of user settings.

3) New version of TwinkiePaste 2.18 use modern method as defaults in Windows Vista and later. But settings as default apply on first time only, when the file settings.ini is does not exist.

When you say "TwinkiePaste helps to quickly type text in almost any application" does that mean I can type text into a PDF form I need to fill out?

Reply   |   Comment by dan  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

dan, if you can paste text into the PDF form then you could use this to perform the same paste action. I don't think it will paste into multiple fields in a PDF form in one operation as there would be know way of predicting the field ordering in any given pdf form so it would need you to select the field then perform the relevant paste then move on to the next field and next relevant paste and so on, which to me seems less than optimal, but it should do it.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

TK,
So I would have to paste one field at a time - is that correct?
That would be cumbersome but if I cannot edit a PDF then at least its an option.

dan, I am talking about a true PDF form not just a printed to PDF form that has no input boxes. If you cannot manually type into the fields then you won't be able to paste onto it either.
Such PDF forms you can fill in manually and then electronically sign them but at no point are you editing the PDF file itself.

Program won't save the new hotkey.
Edited the Google search from google.ru to google.com and it still searches .ru

The new hotkey and search show the changes that I made but still only work
as Control-Alt-Enter and google.ru

So those 15 who =52 % at the current time there have been no positive reviews care to say why you voted thumbs-up?

Reply   |   Comment by MOV  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

MOV, You can vote up with no comment, but to vote down YOU HAVE TOO LEAVE A REASON.

Reply   |   Comment by Norm  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Norm, technically you don't have to leave a reason to thumb down users vote, just select "Other" and drop in a space character.
To MOV, I suspect they read the "The program provides free updates until May, 26." and went oooo! that deserves a thumbs up without trying or even downloading it first.
