    Windows 7
    ----------------

Turbo Play works on Windows 7 with some advanced features not available (particularly, a few video effects and advanced video blending). 99% of the "common user" features work.

    MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS,
Its a pity you aren't able to say WHICH features are disabled under W7

Terry I, it would be too elaborate. Besides, Windows 7 is obsolete. Developers are not targetting it.

    MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS,

    Obsolete?
I dont think so my friend. Absolutely not.

You really need to do some research amongst users.

Reply   |   Comment by Terry I  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Terry I, I said about *developers* We are directed not to support Windows 7 anymore.
But no matter what, it would be too big discussion to be held here about what windows 7 can and what cannot do.

Just try it if you wish. As said, it will work in most cases, while it's impossible to me to tell exactly where it won't work because that would require exhaustive research and tests in an OS no longer supported.

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, considering your apparent inexperience with windows desktop application best practices and Windows NT rights administration I seriously doubt you are in collaboration with any significant group of developers to be able to assert that windows 7 is obsolete in any way or not still being catered to by developers in general.

for example Windows 7 AND Windows Vista are still being catered to by Microsoft by their continued monthly security patch deployment for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 respectively.

I would also be interested to learn what "with some advanced features not available" under Windows 7.

Especially since the build of FFMPEG you use is compatible with Vista and XP let alone Windows 7 suggesting that the undisclosed advanced features should be within your own code rather than the 3rd party code you use which should mean you should know what will and will not work under Windows 7 and why!

I like the fact that, considering what Turbo Play can do, you consider me unexperienced.

Probably because you are totally seem obsessed with stuff noone cares for, like ffmpeg, GLP or Windows 7.

it doesn't matter what you or I think. Windows 7 is unsupported by their creators, period. We are not going to spend time to it and we are not going to spend time to satisfy 2 users that complain about useless things where I have 2000 users that don't.

    Best.

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, without FFMPEG turbo play can do nothing of merit. Windows 7 is still supported by Microsoft, its creators, as is Vista and even IE9 all have patch tuesday packages created for them.
By the way it is GPL not GLP and without it you would not have a program. Once again in compliance with LGPL and the portions of GPL that remain in force can you provide a copy of the FFMPEG32.EXE source and required dev environment assuming you did the work to build that version. Thanks in advance.

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, Is your package distributed under a GPLv3 compatible license? I ask because you install GPLv3 FFMPEG32.EXE version 4.3.1 so your product must also be open source using a GPLv3 compatible license? Can you point us to the source and build data for the build of FFMPEG32.EXE you produce, I ask because it is XP and Vista compatible while the source available from the official ffmpeg project is Windows 7 and above only.

TK, No. The FFMPEG included is the LGPL without H264 H265 etc.

Installation is quick and best. However, the license says it expires on Jan 3rd 2023. I hope they will correct the date soon so as they make it really one year.

Reply   |   Comment by gsrao  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

gsrao, in some parts of the world 1/3/2023 actually means the first of March, 2023.

Installation begins normally and it says that Installation is complete. But software is nowhere. And the only solution is to uninstall it, then try again installation, but software can not be found. I have updated Windows 10.

When installing this it presents a non-standard installer interface, pressing customise button reveals the default installation location, again non-standard. You should be able to install it to a secondary drive and away from the usually small system SSD. Click on the link looking path and be assertive and when challenged and make sure the location has write enable for normal users as this developer does not like to use read only program files locations and appears to not be aware how to make updates request rights elevation via API or manifest. Even the main installer does not request admin rights!

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

TK, Read the description. I intentionally install it without admin in order to be able to update it without admin rights.

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, there is no requirement for update installation to be void of admin rights. In fact best practice requires ALL executables to be protected from modification by non-elevated processes. It is a fundamental security layer of Windows NT based subsystems.

In fact it is relatively easy to create an admin scheduled job at admin elevated install time to silently elevate a known update.exe package for installation into a properly ACL protected location.

But it is normal best practice to require elevated admin rights upon installation and upon update installation. Users without access to an admin account have that restriction in place because they either do not own the system and are not permitted to change admin only settings or install programs unsupervised. It is not good practice for developers to circumvent that admin layer and make it possible for non-authorised non-elevated users and processes to modify executables

TK, at this point Turbo Play is very frequently updated, so it would be really frustrating to have the user grand admin rights each time. When in the future Turbo Play is updated less frequently, yes I 'll move it to program files and have the user grand admin to update.

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, never heard of private alpha and beta testing before going to public beta testing phase and then release candidates and then having a stable release build? or do you like subjecting paying end users to unstable practically untested nightly alpha builds?

A quick note, it doesn't create a start menu item, only a desktop shortcut currently.

Promise to change that on the next installer. :)

It's a very capable app but not intuitive.
I see that installation is not to programs files but to appdata folder.

After installation it said my licence was valid without me having to put licence code in. So i removed the licence and then entered the licence code i was given.
it then said it was licenced untill 2023.I think everyone may need to do this.

david hughes, I did the same as you and got the 2023 registration increase as well.
This has nothing to do with a "older giveaway" and appears to be necessary for proper registration of this version.

Total stealth install under Windows 11. Takes up disk space (insisting on my limited-space SSD boot drive) but no way at all to run it (or even register it) as it installs under a hidden system directory.

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, not even a start menu shortcut? Is this a new way to do windows desktop program development? I trust there is an entry in the program and features database so it can be uninstalled?

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

MICHAEL CHOURDAKIS, you have a bug in your uninstalling procedure, you place the 80Mbyte installer/uninstaller tpi.exe in C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Local folder and it is not deleted after the uninstall procedure completes.
