No installation or start-up problems.

I attempted to recover data from a 12 TB drive but the program twice gave up after ticking away for 5+ hours claiming to be out of virtual memory without saving any record of what it had found up to that point.

In contrast, Easeus Recovery has been chugging along for in excess of 24 hours now (27 to go).

On a positive note, I gave Puran Utilities a whirl first. That completed it's allegedly deep scan without problem but seemed to find only a fraction of what TogetherShare uncovered subsequently

I'd like to be able to install it on flash drive/memo stick or other removable media.

At least it is a simple install operation. Many times I am led to a page that gives two options -- "Download link" or "Send a download link to your email adddress" -- neither of which usually work, often.

It downloaded in "the usual way", whereupon my Windows 10 opened it, presenting the Notes and the actual installation file, from which I was easily able to install with the provided licence number.

It always used to be this way with every GOTD programme, but in the last few months it has more often been as described above -- so that I have had to try using a less-convenient Gmail account rather than my preferred Hotmail account.

I don't know what GOTD have been doing, but it surely can't be my laptop "deciding" not to cooperate. Although yes, it could be Win10 that is at fault -- it often is with other things.

As regards the actual programme, does it work well? I am sorry I can't say: I
have a couple of HDDs I would like to try it on, but I as am on holiday, I can't really say. This programme will just be added to my "arsenal" of programmes to try -- when I get around to it. I just wish some maker would offer a "forensic" type recovery programme, for hard disks that someone has purposely sabotaged by over-writing, though....

Tranmontane, There is no such program as a forensic program to recover data from a maliciously overwritten drive (assuming the entire drive surface was overwritten at least once. There is no published credible claim that anyone has ever recovered previously overwritten data using any known or hypothetical equipment including any eisoteric clean room lab. Forensic examination of a drive usally happens on a drives image of the entire surface not to recover previously overwritten data because with current hard drives it is well understood to be impossible, with any current technology, but to find file fragments of previously deleted data and if possible piecing the fragments back together to try and get evidence or clues. It *might* be possible to install hacked firmware into a drive or replace the controller board with a hacked firmware controller board that will allow the spare sectors that are used to remap failing sectors to be read directly and any failed sectors that were mapped out and replaced by a spare sector to make the drive apear flawless and it's possible the faulty mapped out sector could contain a fragment of data that might be important. But no windows software should be used for drive forensic analysis because windows ALWAYS writes something to every read/write drives filesystem unless prevented in hardware so would change a drive in some known way just by connecting it to a windows based computer. In fact it is very difficult to get even linux to not alter a drive you want to examine forensicly. There has been at least one project on the internet to build a forensics compatible linux distribution that is built specifically to not write to a drive to be examined forensicly.

Contrary to others, I had no problem at all downloading and installing.

The micro SDHC memory card in my camera recently became corrupt, presenting a perfect opportunity to evaluate this program.

Scanned the memory card and recovered files using both this program and iCare SD Memory Card Recovery v1.1.4 from an earlier giveaway.

Both programs found and recovered the same files, and failed with the same files as well. Most still pix recovered fine, but recovered videos wouldn't play. TogetherShare Data Recovery Pro performed the scan much faster than the iCare program.

YD Forums, I had no problem downloading and installing either. But what I did have a problem with, is trusting a company who now has no website, cannot connect to server and shows a 404 error. How did you activate your software?

Interesting...4 attempts in last while to get the webpage and all that is returned is a "404 error"...I was going to give it a go on a few sd cards but I think I shall now uninstall this as I cannot trust the co.!

Their website seems not to be very reliable, in fact, I'm not able to access it.
That's definitely a reason for me not to trust their software either.

Hope the program is more reliable than their web site.
My attempts to connect (to their web site) keep failing.

Installed and registered.
"Select Lost Data Location"
"> Internal and Lost Drives (0) Scanning disk, please wait..."
"> External Dives (0)"

So, how long to wait?
Doesn't find any drives (I have many, internal, USB, card), why display (0) ?

No facility to create an image of the drive to be scanned on a different drive and to scan the image file rather than the original drive which reduces the strain on a failing drive with file system damage to reduce the amount of seeking and re-reading so no good for Professional data recovery. No setting to disable automatic update checking so if your firewall allows it block its internet connections and then disable the firewall in order to activate the program as that requires internet access to the same server as the update check. Installation will detect previous version installation and require you to uninstall the previous version before it will proceed to installing this version. I don't have many if any recoverable files on my hard drives because when I delete files I normally securely erase them and null the space they occupy afterwards so won't be able to test the data recovery capabilites and interface.

The description above states:

"•Recover All Devices

Recover lost data from computer, HDD/SSD, USB drive, camera, memory card, external hard drive, and other storage devices."

What about old tape backup archives? Or do they really mean:

"Recover All mass storage class devices"

e.g. it likely will NOT recover any deleted data from an android phones internal flash storage when the device is plugged into a windows PC using MTP or PTP modes.

I don't understand what "Share Data Recovery" means. What if I don't want to share the data I recover? Why is it required that I do so? The stuff I want to recover is usually private stuff that I don't want to share.

Heidi Huggles, TogetherShare is the name of the company, that is offering the software.

Reply   |   Comment by Thomas Black  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+9)

Heidi Huggles, assuming you are being serious, for your information the name is "TogetherShare Data Recovery Pro" and "TogetherShare" is the trading name of the company NOT anything to do with the functions of the program. Much like "Microsoft Office" it's not a very small and compact software Offfice program.

Hi,
And what is the difference between release 5.0.0.0. previously offered here and today's release 6.7?

Reply   |   Comment by PaulF  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

I would guess that the difference is 1.7.0.0.

Heidi Huggles, Ha ha ha. For the moderator: do you consider such an answer helps? ;-)

PaulF, there is no indication of an expiration date and previous giveaways of earlier version of this I think it was 4.6 back in 2014 was still activated before I installed this and was forced to uninstall previous version first.
