I get "This version cannot copy copy-protected DVD" message.
It is totally useless.

I guess this is written in C# because I cannot use a monitor anymore due to central blindness :( I got as far as register or offer then it only says pane through my screen reader (NVDA it's from a u.k. non-profit). Sadly C# is not meant for screen readers (just ask google I did). Thanks anyway because this was exactly what I wanted for making backups for my family so they can watch the dvd without harming the original. And in a few hours Microsoft WILL be hearing from me about their failure to support people with disabilities in their .net & C# objects without having to screen shot then OCR every object. Thank you for your time & offer of a free product that I will revisit after I find out how to MAKE microsoft have user sided object writing privileges /smilewithhorns :)

This is peculiar. No problem at all downloading and installing, but then I see no "Register" window, let alone a "Get Free Registration Code" button. The closest I come is Help / Support which brings up a webpage having a choice to Retrieve Registration Code. But filling out my email information there produces nothing.

Where, exactly, is this Register window?

Why don/t you just give the registration page address? The button doesn't work for me, all I get is "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window." Does anyone have a workaround for this problem?

When I click on the "Get Free Registration Code" button I get the following message... "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window." what's up with that? Why won't the registration page load?

Installed easily on a Windows 7 OS and the registration went fine. Nice, simple user interface showing the completed processes with check marks to tell you what it's doing. It took 37 minutes to clone a 7 Gigabyte DVD and convert it to an .iso format. I tested the iso file and everything worked fine. Thank you.

Question to Tipard Studio:

I downloaded & installed Tipard DVD Cloner 6, all went good...
So I decided to purchase a lifetime license ($39.95) but when I clicked the purchase button it only charged me for a
one year license.
How do I change that to a lifetime license from the 1-yr?

Thank you for your help.

Reply   |   Comment by Not Convinced  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Not Convinced, Did you click the wrong button??? Probably Not, just wondering. However, what I saw said a Lifetime License is Thirty Eight Dollars and fifty cents. Perhaps they didn't inform their Vendor of the Discount; Normal Price for One Year License is Thirty Five Dollars, according to their site; looking at it right now. In any case you definitely need to get with Tipard Support; don't wait.

Downloaded installed and registered with no problems on my Win10 x64 machine. Nice simple layout. Looks nice. Haven't tried it yet but have a few DVD's in need of backing up so will return later. Good first impression though I must admit.

Just updating my review. Ripped/saved to my machine 2 fairly new movies. No problems and took about 25 minutes apiece. Pretty basic altogether but does what it is supposed to do very well.

Will it defeat copy-protected video DVDs and allow them to be copied from DVD 9 to DVD 5?

Reply   |   Comment by Keith Hamm  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

Keith Hamm,

"Will it defeat copy-protected video DVDs"

Most likely... while they don't mention anything [that I saw] saying yes or no, one of the articles linked on their product page uses an example that has DRM with their DVD Ripper. I don't imagine that if they've got the tech they wouldn't include it here.

"allow them to be copied from DVD 9 to DVD 5?"

Why? Seriously, that's often not a great idea. You can use just the main title [e.g. movie or TV episode], with one language stream & optionally subs, & that will often fit on a single layer DVD. You can use the free DVD Shrink, which works great as long as the % is in the 90s [it removes some of the in between frames], and also lets you trim off the end credits, which can help a surprising amount.

Anything beyond those options means re-encoding, which will reduce what's already often marginal quality [quality is very often artificially reduced as DRM against re-encoding]. If you must re-encode the video, you're best off using the x264 AVC encoder included in the ffmpeg code most of these apps use, or for use as a DVD, a quality mpg2 encoder, e.g. Mainconcept, rather than what's in ffmpeg.

That said, there's nothing difficult or special about burning a dual layer DVD -- just use ImgBurn. And the dual layer blanks aren't that much more expensive at stores like Newegg.

Shrinking was a thing back in the days of DVD Shrink. Less so now that the price difference is slight.

And sometimes people shrink a movie down to 700 Mb to post online. Not sure how. Capture device?

Reply   |   Comment by Jim Jones  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Jim Jones, 700 Mb to post online. Not sure how.....That has to do with the bitrate. For example, instead of a bitrate going from 6000kb / sec to 600kb / sec and 1920x1080 to 1280x720 or even less.

Dear Bolven,

Generally speaking, you can register our software successfully if you can receive the email that contains the registration info.
But we need to remind that our software requires you to register with your email address and the registration code, it would be better if you use your common email address.

Best Regards.
