The video on a Blu-ray disc is pretty straightforward -- usually AVC/H.264 video, DTS audio, & graphics-based subs that can be overlaid on the picture. Very many [most?] software players will play the .m2ts files. Where it gets complicated is the extensive DRM and the Java menus and features. Tipard Blu-ray Player works like the GOTD from earlier this week, DVDFab, managing the DRM, but like most unofficial players will not handle the Java menus and features -- for that you need something like PowerDVD Ultra. Tipard Blu-ray Player also comes in handy if you use DVDFab [or similar] to copy the disc to your hard disk, since the video is often split into several .m2ts files -- either you combine those files into one file, or use a player that understands the playlist to play each file in the proper order.

gergn, every time I buy a new BlueRay player, comes with a software to play and to do a simple recording. There are many free de-crypt tools too, so you can create your own ISO files for storages on a SSD.

mike, that's what I always thought but I bought a blu-ray drive, to fit into a computer, directly from Asus (so should have been fine) and it came with no software, no mention that there was no software on the website, and a big 'no' when I asked them why it wasn't supplied.
