Got it downloaded, got it installed, and the first thing it did when run, was ask for a username and registration code. So much for being a giveawayoftheday.

Dweeb, I think you already found them since your comment 7 minutes ago but you can copy/paste them from the readme.txt file.

Dweeb, The user name is not your name but giveawayoftheday, as explained in the readme file which you clearly did not read. The code is also given in the readme file. It is apparently a limited licence (not nice for a giveaway) but it does not say for how long.

Dweeb, there's a reason for the readme.txt file.

easy to D L and register.

relatively intuitive.

i'm pleased with my little gif.

however..i am not able to rotate the video in order to make my animated gif. i can flip horizontally or vertically, i would much appreciate being able to rotate. this means one would have to rotate your video in another program, if it isn't in the upright position, before you start making your gif.

hunter green, "not able to rotate the video"
The presence of rotation should be very handy. I had the same problem, with video from my phone. Now I should first use another program and with the result this program.

Have a couple of earlier versions of this giveaway and can confirm that the license is non-expiring but the new versions reg data overwrites the earlier versions reg data and is not compatible with the older giveaways even though it permits side by side installation into a uniquely named program files folde rand start menu folder. SO installing and registering this version invalidates previous verisions registered status. It's a simple enough program to use but has a few significant limitations (in my opinion) first significant limitation is not being able to specify the palette algorithm used when rendering prior to GIF frame generation. It could be one of several methods, some providing better visual approxmation of the orignal video stream at the expense of GIF LZW compression levels or optimised custom palette with no dithering that is often not as visually similar to original but is far more LZW compressible. The other factor this misses out in the anmated GIF creation is where a pixel or group of pixels remain unchanged across multiple frames only the first frame in that sequence needs the initial pixels data to be included and subsiquently identical pixels in that area should be encoded as a common transparent colour value so is highly compressible. And only pixel data included in the resultant GIF Frames are only those that change from what was there in previous frame. This can significantly reduce GIF size and reduce the rendering cost of the animation in browsers. It ends up as a MPEG lite modification to blind GIF LZW compression.

Tried the program on XP sp3 and found it better and easier to use than others I have tried in the past.
Incidentally, today is the 32nd birthday of the GIF, which was first released on 15th June 1987. It is worth noting that it's an 8 bit, 256 colour format (nomal then) which works best with diagrams, animations and the like with sharp edges and flat expanses of colour: it has its uses, but the results will not be too subtle!

It installed easily and the provided ID and Registration Code worked fine.
Once the app opened up I selected a video of 120 seconds in MP4 and it started playing. I hit the Start button at a frame I liked and soon, after about 40 frames I hit the End button. It asked me where and under what name to Save and Bingo! I had my 5 seconds GIF of beautiful opening colorful flowers.
Good application, and most important, to me, very intuitive.
Thank you Thundersoft and the GAOTD people!

Purrete, Where did you get the ID and reg code?

JodyH, Both, In the readme file.

JodyH, that's correct with the answer you receive by email after downloading. You get Set up and Read me and the Read me gives you instructions how to handle Setup. Always important to open the Read me before touching the Setup. Good luck you still have some 2 hours to DL and install the app.

"An error occurs when connect to product's web server. Try again later or contact our support."

No problem with my internet connection; will keep trying to register throughout the day.

RonK, it is possible that your security softwares firewall is blocking outbound internet connections on newly installed programs by default and either an exception needs to be added for the program to contact the activation server OR you'd need to temporarily disable outbound connection protection or your firewall to allow the activation and then re-enable the firewall after succesfully activated.

A decent little app that seems to do exactly what it sets out to, and the results look good enough to me.

Pros:
You can specify the exact start and end frames easily.
You can crop the video down to a specific area, which I wasn't expecting.
You can reverse and bounce/pingpong the result.
Conversion, even on a low-end laptop, was fast.

Cons:
Text placement and font size/style could be better, requiring x and y coordinates be entered rather than a more intuitive drag into place method. Maybe something for a future update?

Installed easily; tested by converting an mov file taken with a DSLR. Could crop the frame and pick where I wanted it to begin and end. Worked well in creating a gif. This is a keeper; may take then up on 50% off personal lifetime license.

It worked great. I would suggest the improvement of allowing us to click and drag manually with the crop tool. I'd like that a lot better. Thank you. ♥
