What is the difference between the GOTD version (free) and the "full" version (9.95 on sale)? Is this a dumbed-down version?

This is weird... if I click on the "Windows" software link at the top of the GAOTD page, it toggles between this GiveAway and a different GiveAway. Are there two different give-away running today?

Justin Alias, yes -- the other giveaway is 'Apowersoft Phone Manager.'

Suze, Yes, I can see that... but I thought each Give-Away was for an exclusive 24-hour period. Exclusive meaning that a given developer has the stage entirely to themselves.

Justin Alias, hmm, I don't know about having "the stage entirely to themselves," but for the past few months, GotD has occasionally been offering two giveaways on the same day.

Though many formats are supported, WEBM isn’t. This is the format used by imgur, whose short, usually amusing videos would be highly suitable for conversion to GIFs.

I'm not able to install - executable simply notifies me that the application has been installed correctly and provides the registration information but the program never installed. Any fixes? Windows 7 Pro 64bit laptop. Thanks!

I have the previous giveaway version 1.4.3 and found its conversion process too simplified, there were absolutely no colour palette selection options, and no dithering type or nearest colour options, we just have to take it as it happens, good or ugly. I have looked for a release history/change log but found nothing. The online user guide shows no new controls, so no indication of significant improvement in this minor update. Anyone managed to discover what's new in 1.4.5 ?

Thundersoft Video To GIF Converter works really nicely. I just tried it on a recent high-def video and was able to have a portion of the video very quickly converted to a high-quality .GIF file. This program can extract short clips of a video faster than anything else that I've tried. I'll need to use this program a couple of times to get the settings right; my first use of the program resulted in a 500 layer output file that took up 48 MB. That's rather a large file to upload, but the graphics quality was as good as the original video.

I have trouble installing the program. The .exe file is not starting the installation except showing a popup box with registration suggestions. Please help

ashok,
I have the same problem! Windows 7 Pro 64bit laptop. Any fix yet?

GrayWolfShaman,

Not yet. Hope GOTD will reply after the easter break

Installed Fine on Windows 7 64bit. If you are having trouble with the install make sure you unzip ALL the files to the same folder before installing. After you install the Registration name and code are in the README file. Be sure to enter that information when asked.

Donald Task,

Trouble is, even doing what you describe doesn't install the program for me. Never happened before when installing a GOTD program. Not sure what is causing it but apparently I'm not the only one having the issue so perhaps there is a fix possible. I even tried downloading the trial version from Thundersoft but it doesn't recognize the username or the registration code. I'm thinking I'll probably not be able to install today's giveaway, unfortunately.

GrayWolfShaman, have you tried to right-click on the .exe and 'Run as administrator'? This may not be the solution, but sometimes it is. Also, maybe disable your antivirus just long enough to install & register it? Good luck -- I hope you're successful.

I have the previous version, 1.4.3. Should i un-install that first before downloading this version? Or it can take care of itself?

hardgirl, You should always uninstall before installing a new version.

Joel, I installed overtop of 1.4.3 (the previous GOTD version) with no problems.

Why does it require 1GB disk space?

Reply   |   Comment by gpc111  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

gpc111, I think the 1 GB of disk space is likely for temporary storage, as this program can create quite large files. I just tried Video to GIF Converter and got a 500-layer output file that took up more than 48 MB. Much more than 48 MB of space would have been used during processing. My security program (Norton 360) told me, while the program was working, that Video to GIF was doing an unusually large amount of disk writing.

This is a great program! It downloaded and installed on my Win 7 x64 machine very quickly and painlessly. The program itself couldn't possibly be easier to use. I made my own little .gif on the first try, and it's perfect! (I don't know how/where to upload the little sample I made so you can see it.) Anyway, I am excited about being able to make .gifs from some of our family videos. I know that I'm going to have tons of fun with this!
