On holidays and weekends, instead of screensavers, which are completely obsolete now that there are plenty of free software to automatically switch your desktop wallpaper at specified time intervals, INSTEAD you should offer up a compiled list of free software (with links, and possibly with verification that it is virus- and adware-free) from comments in the previous wee, or even an ongoing updated master list of free software users like , sorted by software type, checked and edited by GOTD users. I think most would find this entirely useful, and certainly far more useful than screensavers.

Thank you for all your work and this wonderful page!

It looks like you need to manually copy the "Astro Gemini Screensaver Manager.scr" and "Thanksgiving 3D Screensaver.scr" files from the \windows\syswow64 folder to the \windows\system32 folder. Once I did that, they show up in the screen saver area on my x64 Vista Ultimate box.

I don't run screensavers ... but I installed this just to enjoy the art/graphics... Plays like a beautifully rendered animated movie... Nice.. but could be nicer .. 6/10..

Overall 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
Installed beautifully and activation was easy.
This screen saver does consume a good deal of resources, but not too many that you can't enjoy it. I did notice from an earlier post that it does appear the turkeys are skating. LOL Both myself and husband got a kick out of this one.
* A thought for Astro Gemini- Ice skating penguins for a Christmas screen saver. I would love to see something like that.
It does need more tweaking to it.
Thanks GAOTD!

Mmm, A waste of power when we're supposed to be conserving energy.

Screensavers SHOULD be made illegal...A lot easier and cheaper to hit that *power off* button.

I see a lot of the older GOTD users have stopped posting, Are there only children use this site now with no idea?

Un-install and a thumbs down seems to be the order of the GOTD site to most now, Forget the comments...just look at the Screensaver comments here now to just a few months ago!

I'm guessing the negative comments are now being deleted to make the software given look better than it actually is!

This is an okay screen saver once you turn off the sound and clock features.

On Vista-64 it doesn't show up under Personalize -> Screen Savers, so there's no way to set the "Wait" time.

Astro Gemini violates the principle of asking permission before installing additional software on a user's computer. This categorizes the screen saver manager progras as malware. The only reason for hiding an installation would be if it were spyware or adware.

I like the artwork of this screensaver! Beautiful and I love all the different scenes. The only thing that stopped me was the horse. Oddly, it's front legs look like they belong to a human in a horse costume. I hope that's not too harsh, but I had to comment because it was the only thing that stopped me,for a second or two, from enjoying the different scenes. Regardless, thank you so much GAOTD. This is another really amazing screensaver that I will show to my coworkers. CJ

#26. Well, then explain the burn in on my monitor Mr. representative of the entire computer industray.

#32. What do you care how long I leave my computer on and what for? What's your point. You haven't a clue why I would want it on for that long, so turn your computer off tonight and I'll leave mine on... but not with the Lost Watch.

Yes, another 'off-topic' post for folks to whine about.
To answer #21,31,32, & annoy #40; I use screensavers for when I leave the machine a wee while, as it is set to lock off to other users [not everything is to be read by my kids!] - the screensaver tells them it is in use so they don't automatically hit the power switch and crash whatever I have pending...[yes we are fanatic about powering off completely when not in use, never mind 2-3 days!]. That said, I find that the clock one blanks out very quickly, I haven't stayed at my desk long enough to find out how long, but even making another coffee is too long?
Free screensavers from here are encouraging me to experiment - who knows, I might even like one enough to buy it, so it *is* worth them being offered -
I, for one, am grateful for the huge variety of stuff offered here, I'm learning a lot - and, incidentally, I too wondered where Fubar had got to, as I look for and set a lot of store by those posts... when considering downloading

Sorry, but as a 3D artist, I must say this is an extremely annoying screen saver, because I know there would be ways to make the graphics better (wheel resolution higher etc.), and still keep the resources low. Otherwise it's nice though.

To the people that think that free commercial software is criticized by losers and/or people without a life:

Constructive and destructive criticism is very different than positive or negative criticism, but I guess there's always folks that think they have a superior moral code than others and dismiss 'any' criticism as negative because the opinion they have of themselves clutters their ability to be impartial and objective.

If you download and install free software from this site and don't review it, you are not doing your job. You take things for free and give nothing in return. Do your homework, get the software, use it, find what you like and what you don't like and write some sentences that show the reasons behind your opinion.

Every other kind of post should go elsewhere. I know that this post does not abide to that concept, but I feel that some posters need to be 'educated' about what to write on their comments.

Ok now, who cares if we like or dislike the fact that a screensaver was posted? Noone cares! Actually rate the screen saver for what it is. Giveaway people obviously do not care if you do not want to see a screen saver on sunday or not. Obviously sunday has low traffic, and nobody wants to post their stuff for review or free download on Sunday, so go along with it.

How is this screen saver? The screen shot looks cool. Are we going to have a yule log soon?

This one looks like it was just in time and planned for thanksgiving table.

This looks like a colorful and good seasonal screen saver if you are into screen savers. Lots of people don't like them and that is fine. A good distraction for some.

to fubar : yesterday you said you thought it was a waste of time for you to post here. Don't let some naysayers get you out of here.

I have come to respect and look forward to your comments. They are always helpful. You take the time and effort to try the software and give objective views.

Also I hope you don't mind my occasional humor when you haven't posted for a few days. Keep up what you do.

Thanks

#21 - Why on earth does anyone leave their computer on, not being used, for 2-3 days? Mine is set for automatic sleep mode after a given time period -- it automatically restarts with everythign where it was within seconds -- and only shut down when a reboot is required for critical Windows updates or major anti-virus software updates.

Why have a screensaver at all? Isn't the very idea obsolete now (for years) that you don't have to worry about pixels "freezing" if they aren't constantly changing? I have one of the many free Firefox add-ons that automatically change your desktop background (and at whatever time interval I desire), using your own collection of photos. That's all I need.

Maybe, instead of offering screensavers on Sundays, instead you should focus in on one specific type of program, and provide a list of free softwares that are out there that commenters here have given in teh past, which someone on your staff has vetted and found virus- and adware-free, and present us with a list. As you cycle throught hose software types (either general -- imagery; or specific -- bulk file renamers) when you come back to one you've provided before, you can offer an updated list based on new software available or feedback from the last time you offered that category's list.

I offer this suggestion because I often find that free software listed by commenters to be more interesting than th day's offering. And if you keep producing such lists, that will keep developers on their toes to provide better products for free...

Thanks for your great work!

Installed on XPPro SP3 and Vista Home SP1 w/o a prob. I don't install screensavers on my setup, but my wife loves these seasonal ones. THANK YOU, GAOTD & Astro Gemini.
I'm constantly amazed at the nitpicking often displayed here for FREE programs. I can appreciate the frustrations of a bad install and understand the need to request help. But don't badmouth the program. From what I've seen here, it's frequently not the program's fault.

#18 you hit the nail on the head. Some people would complain if Microsoft came out with a new windows and gave it away free. They would complaion about every app in it.

Whats crap for some people is a good program for others. Seems that if most of these computer experts that I have read comment from the past several months were as astute with computers as they think they are, maby THEY could write a program and offer it for free in here. Then they would see that their pride and joy program is a piece of crap too.

Successfully loaded and registered, but doesn't ever start. In my Windows Screen saver manager, 'None' is selected and the Astro Gemini product isn't there. In the Astro Gemini screensaver manager, it appears that this screensaver is selected under the My Screensavers tab, and the only time setting I see is for 'rotating'. I don't see anything helpful in 'Settings' either. What if I want it to kick on in 15 minutes or 1 hour...where is that setting?

Obviously, a computer genius, I am not... obviously missing something. Appreciate a point in the right direction.
Running Vista 64 Home Premium. Thanks in advance.

#21 You've stated something that the entire computer comunity considers impossible, a LCD burn in. Seeing as how the "Lost Watch" saver has constant water movement the only way you could ever (And it's a big ever) get a burn in is if the program froze up and there was no movement to the saver which isn't the savers fault but the systems.

Yay, it's screensaver day! As with all Astro Gemini screensavers, there is no option not to install the screensaver manager, which can be uninstalled afterwards with no problem, and the scenes change a bit too quickly for my taste, but it's cute and colorful to look at for a few minutes.

#3 Something to watch for... no pun intened... With the Lost Watch screensaver, I noticed burn-in on an LCD monitor that was running that screensaver. The PC had been on non-stop for a 2 or 3 days. The numbers on the face of the watch were burning into the monitor. I have another PC that I turn off daily running this screensave and it's doing okay.

Thanks GAOTD for this timely Thanksgiving screensaver.

Quick download, easy activation and easy install. Appears to have limited views, colors are pretty muted, guess it's a fall color scheme. The turkeys look like the farm is on 3 mile island. The birds that fly over look more like waterbugs than flying birds. The horse looks realistic. Kept my attention for about 3 minutes.

While running only consumes about 40% of my CPU's power. Not as great as the Lost Watch saver offered before. The techs at Astro Gemini apparently hurried this one in order to get it out for Thanksgiving. Too many flaws prevent this from being a "Good" screen saver such as; No one studied how to create a horse or its features, the turkey's seem to skate instead of walking, the windmill moves back and forth as if in a strong wind while things like the smoke coming from the chimney only moves in one direction, items that should be rounded (Like the wagon wheels and mail box) have not been rounded off but in order to save time they're straight lined and a few other small but un-realistic scenes. I may use it just for Thanksgiving but after that it will go into storage until next year. All in all maybe a 5/10 in quality. Thanks for the offer GOTD and Astro Gemini.

Installed fine on XP SP3 & looks great. Someone mentioned that it did not blank out their second monitor...which is usually my one negative thing I mention. But this one actually IS blanking my second monitor. It is really pretty...probably is a very close 2nd to the Santa's Home screen saver, which is my absolute favorite & can hardly wait to use again. Thanks!

A screen saver manager with lots of options is promising, but IMHO the art is extremely dull and obviously repetitive. Screen savers should engage you, not make you want to turn the music off before you get a headache.

Traditions are so important. Where would the US be without its tradition of Thanksgiving? And where would all the world be without the tradition of GAOTD giving away screensavers on Sundays? And amid all the farmyard sounds, was that another tradition I heard - the squawks of hapless turkeys having their heads off? Maybe not. Sundays wouldn't be the same without them.

This is the best screensaver I have seen from Astro Gemini.

They put a lot of movement and small detial action into this one.

Installed great no problems
runs smooth
colors out standing
No spyware or virus's

If you like screensavers than try this one, I'm sure you'll like it.

The bad: fails to blank additional monitors, probably designed for 4:3 aspect ratio, usual Astro Gemini Screensaver Manager, animation isn't great, music is so-so at best.

The good: very colorful, a good selection of views, lots of activity, reasonably detailed, good sound effects which aren't repetitious. Renders easily and smoothly at 1920x1440 on my nVidia 8500 GT.

Except for the music, I like this screensaver. It's very colorful and detailed for an Astro Gemini screensaver, although the animation isn't as good as many Astro Gemini screensavers.

Nice! Installed without any problem on XP SP3 and runs like it should!
Good use of 3D-effects, enough variation to make it interesting, but the music editing could have been better. There's a very annoying "jump" every time the music loop restarts. This one is better than most screensavers offered here, though.
