Using Tabbles you can categorize your files, folders or internet addresses by cross-linking them to one or more tabbles. A tabble is a visual tag that behaves like a virtual folder.

Since Tabbles is a desktop application, it's well integrated into the Microsoft Windows environment: categorization can be done using the usual explorer functions, such as copy-and-paste, drag-and-drop (keyboard shortcuts and right-button menu included) or using the buttons on the tabble's.

Please note: the license is provided for one year. You will get 5 licenses, each license is valid for a user up to 3 computers. The licenses won't work in the "Tabbles Cloud"

  • Visual Tagging: Unlimited
  • Explorer Integration: +
  • Outlook Integration: +
  • Access your tagging from several PCs: -
  • Cloud Synchronization tagging: - (“LocalDB” and the “LAN” mode)
  • Tag sharing: unlimited users (one user per license)

Comparison with other versions is available here

System Requirements:

Windows Vista/ 7/ 8/ 10/ Server 2008/ 2012/ 2016; Microsoft SQL Server (Microsoft SQL LocalDB is installed locally by default)

I'm intrigued by this product. Here's some of what I think it does. Suppose you have a letter you wrote to person x about subject y on year z. Do you want to file it under x, y or z? You probably have your files in some sort of folder/directory structure organized by x, y, z or even w. However you have it organized, it's harder to find the file later if you are looking for it by criteria different than the inherent directory organization.

A classic example is email. Into what folder do you put a message? Previously when using Outlook I picked the single folder that seemed most appropriate and hoped I could figure out which one later. You could make copies and put them in multiple folders but that gets old quickly with volume. Gmail also has "folders" but they are actually tags. Your mail is in one heap and when you click on a folder you see all of the mail with that tag. I love it.

The key here is instead of having to pick an arbitrary folder you can have multiple tags or "folders" for a single item. Tabbles stores the tag info in its database. I'm guessing people roughly look for files in the following way: 1) most recently used by the application in mind, 2) shortcuts on desktop, etc., 3) Windows Explorer or better, 4) dedicated file search program, 5) search engine. You would use Tabbles somewhere around stage 3 or 4.

So at this point you may now know whether you want Tabbles or not. If you haven't had the problem described above, you probably don't need it. If you have a lot of over-lapping (by content) files you may be interested. If so follow the GOTD link to Tabbles and drill down and around. It is very explanatory. Companies, especially with many files from multiple users, would natural candidates. They would be building their own ad hoc database --- certainly not perfect but much better than nothing.

PS: Thank you Mike for all the great comments you've made over the years.

Quote from Tabbles webiste-
" Over 2000 Fortune500’s, universities and institutions are already tagging their files with Tabbles"

Fortune 500 has 500 companies.

The description does not illustrate any particular benefits in using tables; and so then not such why I would download it .i'm very efficient in my current approach, perhaps a video would help the marketing.

The description tells WHAT the program does. But it doesn't tell WHY I would want to use this. In other words, it describes features, but not benefits.

Hey guys. There is no free lunch and everything has a price. In this case (as in many others) the price is spam. If you don't like spam then go to the site to download the free version. Test it. Do you like it? Then pay the price: Spam or money.
But wait! I trust Avast and the antivirus pop ups an advice informing the installer is infected with "IDP.ALEXA.51". As reported: "IDP.ALEXA.51 originates from .tmp and .exe files located in various Windows folders, and may be potentially malicious."
Well, no thanks! The price is just too high. Deleted.

Once again, a developer does not clearly state what the limitations of a one-year license are. All options to buy the software involve a one-time payment. If the license means that no upgrades are possible after one year, then the user has the option to continue use or buy. If the application is locked or unusable after one year, that is a significant issue. Why spend a year using this if you are going to be faced with a cost of several hundred dollars at the end of that year? It should also be noted that the $245 price listed on the GOTD site does not match any pricing on the Tabbles website. To purchase six corporate licenses actually costs $645.

My error. Five licenses would cost $645.

Reply   |   Comment by Dick Dickerson  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-17)

Vermeilia, Click on the green download now box at the top of the web page and enter your email address, you will then receive an email with a download link. Don't forget to check your spam folder in case it has been flagged as spam mail. Hope this helps.

4x4, It doesn't help at all. There is nowhere to enter an email address without a Facebook, Google, Twitter or Steam account which is what Vermeilia was saying in the first place.

Just read the FAQ on their page. Since this has no option for cloud, you need to have SQL installed for LAN mode. Um, really for a GAOTD, this is NOT an option for some users. I expected better. Thanks but no thanks.

Anon,

the installer installs Microsoft SQL LocalDB, which is totally transparent for the user - it's totally zero-setup
