SWF Video Converter is a handy utility to convert any movie file (AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF, 3GP) into compressed SWF video and FLV streaming video formats.

SWF Video Converter offers several useful options to select SWF file format (legacy Flash 3, latest Flash MX or FLV), specify Flash movie quality, add audio/video controls (start/stop/pause/etc.) to resulting Flash file, apply custom text and/or image watermarks to copyright your files, specify watermarks opacity and position as well as create HTML page with embedded SWF movie. Advanced options allow you to crop movie screen in order to emphasize certain objects or remove unwanted areas such as markers or subtitles, replace original sound with your own (WAV or MP3), adjust sampling and bitrates and save original soundtrack into separate file (MP3).

On-screen movie preview and Activity logs make conversion process easy and hassle-free. Our application uses DirectShow technology to render movies. It supports almost all popular file extensions such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF and 3GP as well as other available codecs.

I missed this one...too bad because I downloaded Wondershare from here and found it a good app. I've just had my hard drive replaced and was on the look out for something similar. I hope GOTD offer another video to .swf app. soon.

I can't seem to get .avi files to load on this thing! It keeps giving me "int. error #800015". What is that? Is it the .avi file? Does anyone know?

Hello,

I installed SWF converter in my laptop and a virtual machine that do not use Nvidia software at all. I have Nero, but only the OEM burning part, so that's not a problem. Still I got the debugging error though, which I fixed with their solution. Then I upgraded Nero and when I tried to run SWF I got the debugging error again. I fixed it again.

I will not instal it in my main desktop or my Mojopac. The destop has an Nvidia card and Mojopac uses whatever the hardware you plug it in has. If I need to convert, I'll reach for one of the two computers where I installed SWF. I must say that I am impressed with the software, so I think I got the best of both worlds.

Its been a strange couple of days. All I do is work on GAOTD. I used to spend 10 mins tops. Now I work all day reading posts, backing up, trying, reading more posts... until midnight. I hope we get some screensaver sometime soon so I can get some rest :)

-Mario

#20, your problems sound exactly like the typical problems that occur with Windows startup; Microsoft can't produce a version of Windows that's able to start correctly. Windows doesn't allow you to specify a start order for your processes; it pretty much starts them all at once. When you have a lot of startup processes, bad things can happen. There are some configurations which usually start correctly, and some which usually fail. I've seen this repeatedly with Windows; you install some new software, and for some reason, perhaps a change in the physical order of files on the disk, or a change in the physical position of entries within the registry database, apparently a slight timing change occurs which results in more frequent startup failures. I've seen the ATI Catalyst Control Center startup problem; actually, it does appear to start anyway, although sometimes I can't access it until I terminate it (CCC.exe; terminating anything can destabilize your system) and restart it. On my system, if most of the startup splash screens don't appear, then the vast majority of processes will start correctly. If my anti-virus splash screen appears but gets held up, then the majority of processes will fail to start, or fail to start correctly, and if they do start, those with tray icons will usually fail to display them. I think that it's unlikely that SWF Video Converter caused your problems; it sounds more like the general Windows software installation issue when you have a lot of startup processes.

The problem I experienced is, unfortunately, not uncommon. A software developer gets support requests due to a conflict with some version of some other product. So, they simply disable the other product, without informing the user. Their own product works, and they hope that the user won't notice that the other product is broken right away, and that when they do discover it, that they'll blame it on the other product. Most people need their codecs to work, and the nVidia MPEG-2 decoder is one of the top codecs. Although SWF Video Converter didn't disable my other MPEG-2 decoders, it's possible that they're disabling other DirectX filters on other people's systems, therefor I cannot recommend the product at this point.

#11 you are just being honest, so don't bother about what #rsa of 28 'say'. So rsa you are just one of 'us' that checking out the free, don't have to be so sarcastic about others. You have no right to 'hurts' other's feeling by saying 'mean' comment. So Messie you have my support.

Thanks Bladedthoth for your great review and all who share the outcome after trying the dl of the day. After reading all review I decided to give this a 'pass'. Still big tks to Once again thank you so much to GOTD and for your wonderful giveaway,

I was going to give it a try but the activation code given after installing the software does not seem to have worked; after I put the details in I still see a “Enter registration code” box on the about screen and nothing that I can see indicates that it is registered...same as some other complaints.

After installation, I suddenly had the Google Toolbar installed (replacing my googlebar from the FireFox addon page). In case not many people know this, Google Toolbar for IE and Firefox is loaded with spyware.

I uninstalled the Google Toolbar for FireFox and had to re-install my original Googlebar.

No major harm done that I can see, but I'm not happy about this at all. Claiming to be spyware/trojan free and then installing a spyware toolbar is in my opinion pretty crappy.

#46,
I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but you do have to install and activate the programs with the 24 hour period of the giveaway. After that, the online activation is no longer available. So if you like a program, dl and activate it straight away, even if you don't intend to use it for a while.

My own experience
I activated this program with problems, and it seems designed to be fairly intuitive, and simple to use, but on the 2 avi files I tried, it stopped the conversion with an 'error' message. Unfortunately there was no info given about the nature of the error.

I hope others have more success with it.

I had the registration code problem at first, but then I realized that you not only have to copy the code, you also have to copy or type in the exact name from the dialog box (GiveawayOfTheDay). You cannot use your own name. Once you do that, the registration works.

46, the terms of service clearly state: "Please note that you have to install it before the Giveaway offer for SWF Video Converter is over." Unless I miss my guess, any software you didn't install yet is toast.

Just a comment to those who are seeing that the software is still unregistered even after putting in the name and number:

** The serial number is VERY long; you MUST ensure that you scroll all the way down before copying and pasting or you will only copy the first line of it; it's actually three or four lines long. **

I made this same mistake.

If this happened to you, just re register and it will give you a message saying the full functions are now availabe and your "About" area will say registered to Giveawayoftheday

Cheers.

#46 - YES, it is the nature of Give Away of THE DAY that programs are only available for download AND activation for a 24 hour period. This means that you cannot activate or re-install programs later. By participating in the site, you accept those terms. I feel that "free today only" is always better than not free at all.

Read "what's that" at the top of the GAOTD Home page http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ .

Here's how it works:
* Set a Windows System Restore point if you want.
* Download gets you a ZIP file
* Unzip it and you will get a Setup file and a ReadMe file and usually an Activate file
* Always read the ReadMe file first - activation instructions occasionally differ.

#43 (raylu): I did clear the dns cache; Unfortunately it seems like some hosts aren't playing fair and their dns servers holding onto the ns longer than should; I found out through a couple complaints and different services.

#44 (Jerry): On my testing system I do not run Nero and I don't have any JIT debuggers or otherwise. I wish I could hit all the bugs but unfortunately that (As with the .dll bug) is a setup-specific error. I hope there can be developed a fix for this other than disabling another feature on your system.

#28 What do u mean you can't activate them?

I haven't installed any software from this website. All I know is we will have to download an activation software along with the installation package.

Are you suggesting that we have to download, install and activate them right away? Would this activation thing still work if I remove the software and try to install it again at a later time when I need them?

Is there any generated activation code, or things like that, so we can skip the activation part in the future? That would be terrible if we can't do that.

Hello all!

It appears after 48 hours my domain name has still not fully resolved to my new host. After some scrapping, I got things to work and added the article to the old host as well. So if you tried to get to the page link above and had issues getting to it (A 404 error page) - Try again. The page is on both my old host and my new host.

As well, the way I fixed the MSVCR71.DLL issue instead of copying it to my system folder, I tossed it in the application's folder directly. It is a matter of preference really; I prefer not to add DLLs to my system directory unless it is really needed; Had too many issues of conflicting versions of DLLs in the past.

It's not bellyaching if you are reporting that this software BREAKS A SEPARATE APPLICATION. Which it does (several have been reported). This is absolutely inexcusable. I think ATI (AMD) lawyers need to be told about this BS!

On another note: "Lifeiscruel" #19 in the comments is 100% correct. Super is the best - it does almost every conversion you will need. Learning curve is medium-high, but what software doesn't require LEARNING how to use it properly? Super beats everything I have used hands down, including today's crapware.

I have taken the opportunity to download several programs with Give Away and am usually quite happy with it.

The new converter works better than the last one I got.

Folks, Quit Bellyaching! What they offer is free, but has to be okayed by the company that usually SELLS it. If most people are only willing to come off with converters and screensavers then that's NOT Giveaway's decision. They work with what they've got. I'm sure they would give away whole operating systems if they could!

Thanks guys, You've got one plus vote from a happy freebie fan! :o)

#24 You can download that DLL here:
http://groups.google.com/group/google-gears/attach/ec03cb31069f6428/msvcr71.bin?part=2

Rename it back from .bin to .dll, coz the person who uploaded it have renamed it to .bin to avoid some chech in his/her system.

Put the file in your windows\system32 folder.
