Didn't work. Serial number in readme file doesn't work. Kept coming back invalid data. Program's creator site doesn't help either. Just another way to get free data base of users......

Outstanding! Easy registration. It scans quickly. I am especially impressed that it's giving me the option to download updates from the developers' sites. Excellent! Thank you, KCSoftwares and GAOTD!

Brilliant product. The way it tells me what updates are available & then directs me to the relevant website lets me decide what to do. Especially useful regarding software I have got via other GiveAwayOfTheDay - I know I canot upgrade - but I can then decide if I want to purchase.

Thank you Kyle, thank you GOTD, and thank you brenda for that portable tip. Next new laptop, I will sort GOTD titles into their own subfolder so they'll be easier to exclude!

The other ones I need to hunt down and exclude are my Ninite installs. If you keep your Ninite installer files and run them as scheduled tasks, they will keep everything auto-updated. Or run them manually. Of course that doesn't cover nearly as many apps as Sumo, but it's great for the ones it does cover, plus it's pretty foolproof for your non-tech-savvy relatives since it keeps the bloatware and malware away.

Good software, used Lite version for some time. If all you use is Windows OS and an office suite, no need for it. But if you use many small programs, each that do only one thing but does it great, this can save you much time.
It looks for updates for all programs it finds, not just a list of common programs. It can be made to scan drives other than C: , even thumb drives or certain folders. Some of the updates it finds may be Alpha or Beta versions. They might be better, or they may just have better bugs.
It may list the same helper program several times, each a different version. Several different programs may be using different versions, each requiring that particular version. Updating the helper might 'break' the main program. Hint: turn on "Show file path" in Options. Helps in figuring out who uses what.
Thanks for software.

It opens new tabs for every program I'm updating, and clicking on those tabs brings up a screen asking me to buy Sumo--even though it's already installed and activated. No sign that it's actually updating the selected program.

I am curious and hope the developer, Kyle, steps back in and addresses it. Will this item work, say in 6 mths time, should 1 develop an issue with the hard drive and need to do fresh installs. I ask because had a crash on my drive, and a number of programs would not allow a fresh install, even thou they claimed to be "xx year license. And no the year wasnt up.
JUst a side note, thanks Kyle for actually responding to concerns. We find a lot of companies don't seem to care anymore, just dump and run.

Kyle SUMo developper, I find this interesting..I also asked a question and instead of Kyle_Katarn answering me back, a Kyle SUMo developer did with the spelling of developer wrong?
I would appreciate an answer to the question also.

[ DJ ],

Yes, any program that either has no GOTD encryption in the ZIP file and or also works with the version available from the program developer's website will reinstall on demand after the day of the giveaway.

Download the GOTD ZIP file, and if it has ONLY [ setup.exe ] and [ readme.txt ], then it is directly reinstallable after the day of the giveaway.

If it ALSO has [ setup.gcd ], then it is encoded and only extracts on the day of the giveaway, BUT the software vendor may respect the license from the [ readme.txt ] on copies of their software downloaded from their website, if so, then it is reinstallable after the day of the giveaway, if not, then not, it's totally up to the vendor.

Don;t worry too much, because many GOTD programs work in a free version when pro features expire, usually just requiring manual operation instead of automation.

I wonder if it can tell the difference between updatable paid-for programs and giveaway programs that require payment after updating.

Reply   |   Comment by Injeun  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Injeun, not making such distinction, but allows you to hide such items

Reply   |   Comment by Kyle_Katarn  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

Injeun, Nevermind. I just installed it. Seems like good software. But no, it cannot distinguish between updates requiring payment and those not requiring payment. It would be a nice feature for a "PRO" edition.

Reply   |   Comment by Injeun  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

[ Injeun ],

You mean a feature that searches and lists software registration and duration, and compares that to possible update versions that are in or out of updatability free?

Cool.

Arduous to program accurately, I imagine, but cool.

This is actually a good program. But don't use the installer. Instead visit the publisher's site to find the portable version. It will be the yellow symbol on the far right under the product download. Just make sure it is a .zip file and not an ,exe file. After you download the .zip file, extract it to a location on your computer. You can register with the Registration Name and Registration Key from the readme file. Thank you GOTD team and KCSoftwares.

zipzap, not better, it's just different :-)
Portable is for use case where you can't install software (IT tech on customer's PC, ...)
