Not sure why it says Vista+ for system requirements here as that is NOT what their homepage says (& it worked fine on my old XP SP3):
Starus Photo Recovery supports in all versions of Windows from Windows 95 and up to the latest versions of Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server. FAT, FAT32, NTFS, and NTFS5 file systems are supported.

I don't see much use for this myself, but at least this program doesn't destroy machines like yesterday's giveaway does.

I have a general comment. This is a recovery software.
It recovers deleted stuff. All of them - regardless of what types of file they are.
Now, why would it need to differentiate between what is a Raw file and a non-Raw file?
It only needs to recover all of the deleted stuff, regardless of whether they are Raw files or not.

Therefore in my opinion, this software's advertising copywriter blurb about being able to recover Raw files is just snake oil marketing.
I do not expect this software to be able to open and view ALL the possible Raw file formats in the world, now in Jun 2016 and beyond.
It is not possible.
New Raw formats will be created when new camera top models are sold on the market.
Actually viewing ALL Raw files is not within the design parameters of this software.
Whatever your brand/model of camera, when the Raw file is recovered, just view it on the appropriate Photo Editor with the needed Raw file driver.

ric, program is only for photo recovery, not all of the deleted stuff. So, yes recognizing raw files should be an advantage; also because it has a content aware scanning technology. When f.i. the extension of a file is wrong it is sometimes able to determine what it should be, and show a preview of the photo nevertheless (b.t.w. it works sometimes, but the gotd leaves much to be desired).

Okay it finds the deleted files (images) BUT cannot get them to open!!!
Not much use if this is all it does.

Program has a nice UI, but tests show some errors. Deleted files are often marked "exists" , filenames of overwritten files remain (recoverability is shown as "good") though content ( & preview) has changed (program does not recognize files have been overwritten, like in Recuva), content aware scanning could be much better. Wish the results would be better, I like the clean interface.

Hopsa,
Could you explain which view recoverability was shown, can't see it anywhere in my output.

One interesting aspect; before testing some image files with very long and forgettable names were renamed, done to help with my tests.
The renamed files were shown as deleted, wondering if this is something to do with the way rename works on an SD card.

I couldn't reproduce the errors you found, XP SP3.

Tata, rightclick on a file with status "Deleted" (or with red X) in "Disk Analysis results" , select "Properties". There is a "status" item: Deleted with between brackets the prognosis.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated.

Program finds existing (undeleted) jpg images but does not find Fujifilm (RAF) RAW files. This may be an issue with just Fuji RAW files but either way it's of no use to me at all. Does not locate any previously deleted files.

Can it recover only from cameras that emulate a drive/USB Mass Storage device (in which case most recovery programs could handle that), or can it also recover from a camera connected via PTP/MTP?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol

I've noticed that most applications can't read from MTP devices, so I'd be impressed if Status' recovery programs can recover via MTP.

Tested on a 32 GB flash drive using a full scan, it accomplish the task in a reasonable amount of time.

The output is a sortable list of all the image files on the drive which contains information regarding the status of the file.
This allowed me to sort between exists and deleted, an absolute necessity in my opinion.

The output list can be displayed in different ways, Detailed, Thumbnail etc and it does this in a manner that is very pleasing to the eye.

Its high price and limited type of file recovery can only be justified if it really can recover corrupted files, not something I was in a position to test.

Very impressed by its ease-of-use and the quality of the presentation of the results, nice piece of programming if you need it.

Stan, Hey guy, I know how you feel. Make a positive comment and WHAM. It happens often to me too. Some people only want to know if they should try it. People like me for instance, without needing some technical blurb.
Or maybe they just want to know if there is some flaw or danger with the software. So I for one, appreciate your comment.

Refreshingly, Fast, clean download, installation and registration. Registration key is included in the download.
Very clear step by step instructions and a delightfully simple, yet inclusive opening menu. AND it works.

Cheers for this one.
