How do I split a DVD-9 into two DVD's? I can grab the image just fine but where do I find the Splitting Wizard?

This tool is compact in design without alot of blouted junk to boggle your mind. Too bad more products don't adopt these principles. I installed this version on MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2008 RC and it seem to have no problems at all. As for compatibility, I give it an A+. Now saying this, The burn process is super fast per CD and the speed of burning an ISO on a DVD is also surprizing fast and clean.
The folks at StarBurn have created a winner.
As for the folder program location??? WhatEver!, as long as it works well.

It looks like it might be a handy program from the testing I've done with it so far. However, I must agree with #3. I do *not* like the idea of creating a GIVEAWAY OF THE DAY folder either in Program Files or in the Start Menu. Please don't do that in the future, GAOTD. Just let the software install to it's own folder, not something customized for your site. I realize that maybe you did this because this is a re-release of StarBurn. I think it would have been better to have the default be Starburn_Fixed or something like that.

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!

belongs to the very best offers on your site since I know you!

A very cool package - and now even significantly smaller than the previous version (the 1. offering): The people from StarBurn cleaned it up from all the waste thast rested insinde the program files, as there was debug-info, pathes to their compilers etc.

If I delete the "Styles"- and "Help-folders, and process all programm files with UPX 3.x I get a really comlete and smart but small package of less than 3.4 MB!!!

Hi,
I have used StarBurn to burn 'Normal' CDs and DVDs using the Joilet file system.

I now need to burn a UDF (Universal Disc Format) disc. According to the StarBurn page on the
Rocket Division website, the product is capable of "UDF (Universal Disc Format) file system mastering (UDF 1.02, 1.50 and 2.01)".

I have looked through the help files and the support forums but found nothing on how to utilise this format.

Is this software actually capable of burning using UDF? and if so does anyone know how to do it?

#16 download cdgone from this site http://www.aumha.org/regfiles.php and run it. restart your computer and your drives will be back. Your lower registry keys have been altered and that's where the problem is. It does work, I used it a few weeks ago when I lost mine and now they are back with no problems at all.

GAOTD...thanks for the software...missed it a few days ago and wanted it pretty badly. Thanks again.

I installed StarBurn on 3 identical machines Windows XP, DVD drive and a CD drive. On two machines, it recognized only the CD drive. On the third machine StarBurn recognized both drives. I don't understand it. I'm sure glad I didn't pay for it.

Decent enough software, depite the overinflated retail price. Get it while it is free.

I have the full Nero suite, and this only does a fraction of the functions available. However, what it does it does well.

The help file is somewhat inaccurate. That might be a bit daunting for the newbie.

I tried as many functions as possible, even burning a DVD authored from my own material as well as Night of the Living Dead which I downloaded from www.asrchive.org.

Starburn does not author a disk, you already have to have the files broken down, and menus built (something Nero does that this does not). However, the two DVDs I burned worked fine in several different DVD players including one I know to be real picky about playing hacked and burned DVDs.

It made flawless CD copies, and I was able to make a self starting CD with some flash movies I use as demos.

This will remain in my toolbox.

Get it while it is free!

BTW, I had tested the previous version in Sandboxie, thus technically I had not installed a prior version. This worked fine. I suspect that those with problems should run a registry cleaner, or perhaps turn off your AV and ASpy programs while installing this.

Something I forgot to mention in my above review:

I don't use themes & skins and prefer all software to match my custom colors & classic 9x style look that I have chosen for my XP system. If you stick to the standards, that would be easy to accomplish.

When I set the view settings to give me the classic look & colors that I use, your gradient toolips made it quite difficult for me to read the bottom line of text in the tooltips.

I use a light color for text on a dark background in tooltips. Changing it to a gradient that goes from my chosen background color to almost white, makes the lighter colored text disappear.

I have provided some screenshots for you:

Bad tooltip effect in your software: http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/6977/badtooltipsqo6.png

What it should look like: http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8247/goodtooltipsyq5.png

My review is partly for the user, but more for the developer. Keep this in mind when reading.

Great news!

This application supports the HP DVD Writer 640b. Very few burning applications do. Not even Nero supports this burner. If you are unfortunate enough to own this HP burner, StarBurn Shark is a working alternative to the Sonic Record Now! that came with it. It's nice to finally have another option.

I don't understand the point to the Explorer tree & folder view in the top portion of this application's main window. It isn't used for anything. If it is used for something, the help file should say what it's for and how to use it. This application is entirely wizard based and the Explorer tree & folder view isn't used by the wizards.

It would be nice if this software had a simple way to be able to drag & drop files and folders to burn a disk or build an image, instead of only the wizards. It is quite time consuming and awkward to create a list of stuff in a tiny little window using the wizards.

In the Build Image Wizard, it would be nice if you could set a max size for the image and know easily if you are going over that when adding files & folders. Maybe select disk type that you will be burning that image to and base the ISO size on that, or base it on the empty disk that is currently inserted. Nobody wants to waste time & disk space making an image they can't burn because it is too large.

It would be nice if the sizes in the Build Image Wizard were reported in the same measurements, not using KB for the total amount that is added to the image and MB for the hard drive space percentage bar. It should be kept consistent. And a lot of people don't know how many KB are in 700 MB and can easily create an image they intend to burn to CD to be much too large. (same with DVD)

On the Image Burner Wizard, during the burning process, it says "Sending OPC" and hangs there with no message that it was successful and that the burning process has begun. Also, the progress bar is highly inaccurate, quickly going to 99% and staying there through almost the entire burning process. I thought it was stuck or something and was ready to kill it, thinking it wasn't actually burning anything and wasn't going to. I had no idea what it was doing.

It would be nice if there was some kind of time indicator that let you know how long this was going to take and how much time remaining till it was finished...counting down in hours:minutes:seconds.

When I insert a disk, it should automatically detect that and refresh the data in the bottom panel instead of making me go through a menu or hitting F5, to manually do it. It should also automatically refresh after a disk has been burned or erased. It only seems to auto-refresh if you use the Eject/Load button in the software.

I don't like how it ejects the disk after every operation is complete. I would like to keep the disk in the drive after burning in order to check it...or after erasing so that I can burn data to it. It's a pain in the butt to have to keep closing the drawer.

The help file could be a lot better, explaining things a bit more. And there is at least 1 inaccuracy in there. If I want to create a data image from files & folders on my hard drive, the help file says to use "Data Grabber Wizard" when it should say to use "Build Image". Also, there is no "Data Grabber" in the software, but there is a "Grab Image". Please make sure the terms in the help file match the terms used in the software. A help file should help, not cause confusion.

Your price...

You are asking people to pay $50 for this. There are a great many free products that can do what your software does and much more. Those applications are also much more polished than yours.

There are shareware products of the same price or less that are also much more polished with more features than yours. Take a look at Download.com to understand what I mean: http://www.download.com/CD-DVD-Burners/3150-2646_4-0.html

The average price for a product similar in quality & features to yours is $15 - $30.

You can't possibly expect anyone to pay $50 for your software when you aren't giving anywhere near the quality and features people would expect for that price.

Either lower your price to match what you are providing, or put a lot more work into your application to make it worth the money you are asking for.

Address all the above issues and you will have quite a nice product that I might be willing to pay for, especially since it supports that particular HP burner I mentioned.

Good Program, didnt get the first free version.

Although doesnt Nero do the same? And i think you can get
Sonic: RecordNow free which can make 1:1 copies of games aswell.

I havent tried making a 1:1 iso yet, but ill try tomorow morning.

If it can make iso files ( maybe mds or isz? )

This program could probably make iso files, ive found that if you define the file extension yourself it will make a valid file
( this only works with some dvd movie rippers, where i put this into the save as box: "diskname.iso", that seems to work for me, but can make invalid images )

If this could make iso files, it would replace all my other dvd rippers ( maybe not ALL of them, some can make some lovely copies )

If you do succeed at making an image ( '.iso' ) i suggest using
DAEMON Tools, it supports Vista, XP64/32, Mac ( i think ), OSX ( i think aswell )

The website is www.daemon-tools.cc.

Thanks GAOTD! THUMBS UP !

Bring on more software like this.
