#30,yes,it can cut MP3 to 30 secs.
For me,WMP 11 closes halfway through trimming everytime.Somebody help fix this.

This is truly a very handy plugin for WMP. Its not very complex, so even the novice can get this plugin going, and put it to some good use. A definate two thumbs up on this one. As always, thanks GAOTD for the free stuff.

With another movie it works well. I change my rating: in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 8 points.

It doesn't work well with Media player 11. I get the message Can't get duration of the first stream. So in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 1 point.

My first test flunked, as I tried to snip 5 seconds from a DivX or XVid movie file. I'm guessing that there were no key frames in that portion of the movie or something like that, not sure. Second test, 9 seconds worked great.

This is 'Very Easy' to use. Great interface in MS Media Player. Simple and does the trick.

Works "okay"(I'm a video producer who normally uses Sony Vegas)but did find that for some edits, the inpoint doesn't work. I took a 48 second clip and tried to edit from 8 seconds in to 15 seconds (out). It did not find the in point, but did find the outpoint.

When I deleted the created file and did it again, this time setting the inpoint at 11 seconds in, it worked fine.

There seems to be some minimal edit point from the start of a clip that has to be set before it works correctly - I assume this is a bug that needs fixing.

Couldn't even pass my first three tests! First I opened an AVI file and specified 03:57 and 05:00 and started it. Almost at the end came up with error:

"SolveigMM Video Editing Engine error: The data is invalid. HRESULT: 0x8007000d (Unspecified error hr = 0x80004005)"

Then I tried an ASF file, which it did trimmed, but just the end since it did not trim the first 5 seconds of the video as instructed, even when re-doing it many times.

Don't waste your time with this. I'll keep looking for something that does works.

I have windows media player so once downloaded I should be able to use this as directed by above posters.

My question is, does anyone know if I can use this program to cut MP3 files to 30 second clips to use as ringtones?

Thanks for any feedback that can be given. I deal in graphics and I'm completely lost when it comes to music files, just starting to get my feet wet in that area. lol.

#17 It can only be accessed from within Windows Media Player - open Windows Media Player and choose Tools > Plug-ins > SolveigMM WMP Trimmer Plugin and it will open the program; it is the only way as it is not a stand alone piece of software.

Registered without problem.But when I trim a video(.wmv),WMP says it needs to close due to unknown error.Saving of the trimmed portion then stops midway and the output file I get is too small{about100KB-2seconds of video)when I actually trimmed a 5 minute video(20MB}to about 50 secs(must be around 6 MB).

I didn't take the time to post this last night, I figured people had enough common sense to check out the website before downloading.

How many thumbs up can I give this thing!?! And you couldn't ask for better timing - I just recorded a 2 hour internet broadcast last night that I've been trying to pull out one half hour segment using my usually reliable a/v tools, but about three songs into the set, the audio got out of sync with the video by all of about a second, and I've been trying to no avail to get them to match up again.

I tried to use this WMP plug in to do it, and it took about a minute to do correctly what I've been trying to do in my other programs since last night. :D The file size IS a little bigger than the out of sync version that I did last night, but at least it's in SYNC now. I'll forfeit a bit of file space to have it NOT look like a badly dubbed Japanese movie. ;)

Thanks for the download, even if it ends up working for NO other video other than this one, it is definitely worth the "price" of admission.

1)it is only a plugin (for the first time in GAOTD),
2)it doesn't appear in the WMP list of plugins and everytime I had to look for it as a new plugin.
3) TODAY IS THE DAY, so where is the SCREENSAVER I preferred the best ?

I copy the activation code from the little pop-up window, but it is not clear where I paste it. The "registrator" does not ask for it, nor can I paste the code into that pop-up window.

Bad thing, the first GAOTD program which doesn't work on my PC /XP, Windows Media Player 11/. Every time I try to trim, the plugin says: "SolveygMM Video Editing Engine Error: Can't get duration of the first stream". I tried from the beginning to the middle, from the middle to the end, etc. The result was the same. I can't understand what wrong I do? Developer? Till now I use SonyVegas. SonyVegas works perfect, almost professional and gives excellent results.

OK, now that I have had time to play with it, I really like this program!
My WMV files were trimmed nicely and the cut versions played flawlessly.
This is a nice useful little program that I will be using to trim the leaders and trailing ads off of my saved videos.

When you get the pop-up box called "Registrator", next to the program name there is a "+".
Click on that and the second line will show and the "activate" button will enable.
Click it and a registration box will show up in which you should put the activation code.
Then you will have a full functioning, NOT trial version. The "Registrator" box will show that the program is activated.

#11 Did you download the re-run of the Aimersoft DVD software on 30th May? If so, you can save each section of the trimmed DVD and merge them together using the Aimersoft software then burn the whole lot to a new disk.

Does not always work. Can't trim some .wmv files and makes them even (slightly) bigger than original.

Does not handle long filenames properly(?) Example: When trimming guitar_spin.wmv it names new file GUITAR~1_Trimmed.WMV instead of correct guitar_spin_Trimmed.wmv

The GUI is really basic and does not allow easy fine-tunning of the start and end points (for example jump by 1s or 0.1s with related video jump)

To #8: Start windows media player, activate the plugin in Tools menu.

Just now downloaded and installed the video trimmer. It is still the middle of the night here. I recently read on a totally different website talking about GAOTD. The main critical review was that GAOTD had to way to many screensaver offers. I like screensavers, but admit I was tiring of them a little. Judging from what I have read, this program seems like it will be useful to me.

It installs a trial version for 30 days with a limited output of 1 minute... useless !

Good morning, when I read the description of this tool I cried of joy. Finally, a smart way to get rid of all the commercials in the movies I have recorded. I kissed my wife and started to edit the first polluted video.

Now, in my country commercials are broadcasted throughout a film. In fact, you have to look very carefully, and listen very tensely, to find the film fragments and to remember the story.

This tool can only be used when ALL commercials are broadcasted before the film or after, that does not matter.
Why? you can only cut a movie ONCE. DISAPPOINTED.

A better solution (that only works for AVI files) is SOLVEIGMM AVI TRIMMER. This software is free and can be downloaded from:

Ok I used it once on an XviD movie and it was WAY out of sync

Downloaded and installed O.K. (While installing got Registration No. and that was utilised for registration). However the actual/ultimate utility of the programme is not understood by me which may kindly explained by somebody please.

Easy installation, activation and usage. Pretty useful aswell. I can see myself, along with the help of WMM, easily making some decent AMV's in the future.

This tool is only usable when you use MM = Microsoft Media Player. The help file clearly shows this:

To activate SolveigMM WMP Trimmer Plugin follow next steps:

Launch Windows Media Player.

So do not install it if you do not use Microsoft Media Player. Furthermore, it is a kind of teaser:

This makes me wonder why it is not freeware instead of shareware.

This is a fabulous little program that is a must for anyone who uses Windows Media Player.

Having downloaded and installed with no problems whatsoever (there is no "Activate" to click on today, instead a box pops up with your registration key that you enter into the "Registrator", this registers it immediately and you can then save the registration confirmation as a .txt file to your computer. This I should think would also allow you to reinstall the software if you ever need to reformat etc so long as you save the registration key (which is not, by the way, included in the txt file so be sure to add it yourself for safe-keeping).

Am over tired so the first thing I did was to look for the program's icon to start it as usual - of course it does not open as a separate program, it is a Windows Media Player (WMP) Plug-in and as such can only be found by opening the Media Player and choosing Tools > Plug-ins > SolveigMM WMP Trimmer Plugin - this opens the program as a box on the bottom of your WMP screen. Whilst the song or audio file you want to crop is playing, you merely click the blue "arrow" to the left of the first "00:00:00.00" at the point you want the trimmed file to start and the blue "arrow" symbol to the right of the second "00:00:00.00" where you want the file to end and then click the blue arrows pointing to a CD symbol between those 2 times to save the new, cropped file. That's it - you then have a brand new, bespokedly shortened file saved that plays immediately without ANY loss of quality whatsoever.

Uses of the plug-in are endless - you can crop songs, perhaps for when your mp3 player/ CD burning is nearly full and a full song won't fit or to edit out a long winded introduction (eg if you prefer one half of November Rain to the other...), or if you create your own audio files you can crop out mistakes without having to re-record the whole thing. Used with yesterday's giveaway you could save just the parts of ebooks or emails that you want to save without having to listen to the whole thing each time.

The one thing that would have made this plug-in absolutely perfect would be the ability to merge files together into one mp3 file so that you can crop multiple files or sections of files at once and then resave them or make your own medleys. Nevertheless this is a wonderful, simple to use tool that is a great asset to your Windows Media Player as even if you do not think you have a use for it right now it is bound to potentially come in handy for a wide array of uses in the future.

Solveig Trimmer is a very good software to cut big avi-files into small pieces.
I use this normal freeware Soveig Trimmer which is very fast and excellent. Please be aware to install some needed codes such as Xvid Codec.
The only thing what i dont know is, what the difference between this Solveig Trimmer Plugin and the freeware Solveig Trimmer is because both do the same...
