Smart Install Maker lets anyone create professional installation packages in minutes with unprecedented ease and functionality. Instead of writing installation scripts or spending weeks on learning a complex installation program, you can take advantage of Smart Install Maker, use its wizard-oriented interface and create an installer right out of the box. The installer is a single executable file (setup.exe) that runs on any version of Windows from 95 and up. It is ideal for distribution over the web or a network, on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

The pre-eminence of Smart Install Maker among the similar software is that it allows you to create distributives with ease within a reasonably short amount of time. The creators of Smart Install Maker have worked their best to deliver the program in an intuitive and pretty simple interface with great functionality. Thanks to the guidance of the built-in wizard you will be able to create complex distributives in several minutes.

Emsi a² Anti-Malware 3.5 (passing GOTD of today) has just found a TROJAN-SPY.Win32.Banker.khi which is "capable of stealing private information such as account numbers, passwords and banking credentials" (cf. http://www.avast.com/eng/win32-banker.html).
Infected seem to be two files named "install.exe" (in "Data" folder) and "setup.exe" (if you haven't deleted this file immediately after installation).

GOTD team, you definitely ought to investigate that issue! It surely isn't a minor one!
To be honest, although there have been a few false positives in the a² results this time I don't believe in a f.p. for multiple reasons.
Something which at least from my point of view is considerably questioning the credibility of the author, InstallBuilders Company, as well as in every case alike we had on GOTD, is that on their website they give no hint as to their location, not even the country they come from.
Would a serious, customer-related company not be going to build trust by having the customer know where, at least in which country, the company's working that he's gonna pay and rely his pc on?

Some urging questions need to be answered. I hope you can agree in that, GOTD team.

'Smart install maker' contains a trojan called 'Dropper.Agent.qhn
AVG anti virus detected it within the unopened folder that i had downloaded for possible future use.

I subsquently deleted it manually and from the recycle bin of course and now there is no detection by Avg anti-virus.I think that speaks for itself does nt it?

Aww man, I forgot to visit giveawayoftheday.com for two days and I missed this! I work on a number of game and software titles and I needed a software like this to allow myself to distribute the projects.

I hope GAOTD offer this software again soon, because I can't afford the $80 pricetag attached to the current release, and my search for a better software of this type has so far been fruitless.

Hi Folks,

While I agree that issues like "non-commercial" use are grey areas for GAOTD, there is precedent for restrictions by people receiving a software product, and how it is used.

As an example, the whole open source movement places restrictions in their licenses on using their code and programs in commercial programs, that are not themselves open source. And the moment you download an open source program you fall under the covering of one of those licenses (they have a few different ones).

Many shareware products make it very clear that they are working with distinctions in usage. You can use for free for home and personal use, however corporate use of multi-copies is required to buy a license, not simply consider each user an an independent. (Programs like Belarc and maybe FinePrint make this distinction, and hundreds of others.)

Thus to simply say "there is no contract, it is unenforceable to have such a restriction" seems to be an interpretation of convenience.

In practice I do not expect that using a GAOTD in your own small business usage will be more than an blip on the radar of unknown gray legal areas. However I don't think it is legally valid to simply make a fiat declaration "there is no contract".

Shalom,
Steven

Quality program, and a program that genuinely doesn't have many freeware alternatives (at least none that make the job as straightforward as this does).

THANK YOU so much!!! :)I am thrilled to get this!!! This is truly wonderful & a Godsend! Great program! Easy, professional, nice interface, installed easy. Many options, which is way cool!
As a few others above have said, I was SO NEEDING an ap like this! I've been noticng other installers on downloads. I didn't look for any free, as I thought they'd be sky-high. Which a good one obviously is, outta range for me. I make simple but fun 3D mini-games for an online community, as freeware, but want to put them on my site so anyone can get them and download free, & also make more complex & larger file size games, as currently I'm limited to very small file size due to server there. As VRML 2 you don't HAVE to have an installer, but I'd sure like them to be at least protected a bit, not totally public domain. Don't hold your breath, may be awhile, but I'll post them when I get them on my site this next year. Mostly kids games &/or "casual" games to spend 5 mins. Mini-games,yeh. :) I'm amazed how many developers of SOMETHING come to this site! Cool buncha peeps here! :) So please post some freebies from all you peeps who use this program, ok? I will if you do. :) No, I will anyway. :)BUT please do!:) Too bad we don't have chat here, looks like! :) Any suggestions for 3D mini-games?
Reg code is visible in "Help/About". Strictly personal use I assume to mean that we can give away things we use this as installer on, as freeware only, NOT if we sell our product. AND that we can't be making install files for every friend and stranger u meet online, nor the boss at work, nor for companies. Commercial= for profit.
ALWAYS read the README files on downloads from here! It tells you exactly how to install and get the full version free on your PC! And always install right away! B4 midnight! Once I didn't & then forgot! Waa! Lost a great game that way! lol@me! :)
Agaian, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :) Made my day, week, month, year! :)

#36 -

From the help file after installation:

* You may distribute your setups made with the SOFTWARE PRODUCT as you wish.
* You may use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT to make ANY setups for ANY number of products.

Doesn't sound to me like "This offer is only good for creating setup programs for non-commercial applications (freeware) even then I am not sure if the setup files for freeware applications are distributable. Remember the condition “Strictly personal usage”. It could mean that you create setup files only for your own use and non-distributable."

I LIKE THIS SOFTWARE. (And I AM a professional programmer).

For those who keep obsessing with the "strictly personal use" thing here, repeating it does not make it true. I am not too certain about other countries, but in the USA, Canada and the UK, a contract is a formalized "meeting of the minds" where two entities exchange real property.

A good example would be if you paid me to take a portait photograph and produce a framed 24X48 enlargment for the entry to your business. I can include in the contract that no one may otherwise use any reproduction of the enlargment, including photographing it for use in a company brochure, unless I receive additional consideration for usch use (I actually include language like this in my contracts, and have enforced it.).

In this example, I recieve real property in the form of your money, and you recieve the real property of the framed enlargment. The caveat is enforcable.

The caveat of "strictly personal use" fails this test as there is no contract. Period. No one can do anything to me or anyone else in the USA, Canada or the UK if they end up using the provided programs in thier business.

Let's test this out. I regularly use a couple of programs I got here in my business, ans I plan on using both yesterday's MultiSet and today's Smart Installer in my businees. The caveat on personal use is unenforceable. Go ahead, try it! There is no contract and no court will take the case.

The only reason the no tech support and no upgrades thing is enforecable is that the software provider is under no contract (the same lack of exchange of real property that makes the "personal use" unenforcable), and thus does not have to supply those services. The only other enforcable caveat is that software is a copyrighted work and thus it would be illegal to make copies and distribute them.

#19 has it absolutely correct in his example. That example also applies here; there are no terms to be negotiated. There is no real retail value to anything given away, and thus no contract that can be enforced.

Thus, the line about "Strictly personal use" is nothing but pure illusion (maybe delusion).

I have never typed these words on GAOTD, but in this case it is true: This is EXACTLY something I have been looking for!

Simple to use with lots of flexibility. No weird ads packaged along with the software.

For those wanting to back this program up, click on About, and there is the registration information. I deleted my install, downloaded the program from the publisher's home pagge, used the registration info harvested from About. Viola! It worked!

Two days in a row with worthwhile software.

Retail price is out of proportion to reality, but for free, and can be backed up - Get it while it's hot!

Keep up the good work GAOTD!

Good Morning all you downloaders. Great piece of software! Well I came to post a free alternative to those who missed this excellent giveaway. Here it is http://www.clickteam.com/eng/index.php . When you get to the website look on the very right under "products." There will be a install maker and "patch maker" if you are interested. I found out about this website because a MOD that uses the Source Engine from valve used this nifty free piece of software to distribute their free game. If it was good enough for them it is good enough for me! If you have counter-strike source you can get INSURGENCY MOD here http://www.insurgencymod.net/. Thanks again GaOTD for another great piece of software.

There are some good things and some bad things.

GOOD: Really neat, and it worked perfectly. Much quicker to "learn" than other similar programs (as there's almost nothing to learn).

BAD: Except for the basics, you don't really have any control of the output. The welcome screen (of the installation you make) always look the same without any opportunity to modify it etcetera.

Where do I find the registration key that tells me the User Name and License Key? Otherwise, the version that unpacked on my computer is a 30-day trial. I would appreciate help with this, since it looks like others have found information that is probably obvious but I'm not finding.

I appreciate the idea of using this software to pass along files of intellectual property that others need to know belongs to you.

Thanks GAOTD!

Why oh why is this showing only as 81% +ve votes? People voting against it because it's no use to them? ALL of the comments are positive. (I don't think I've seen that before. Normally someone has a gripe or two.)

Think again folks, please, and only vote on whether the software is any good or not. Otherwise, it's unfair to the authors and unhelpful for other users of GAOTD.

#19 "nobody can ever hold you to anything if you have acquired something legally."

That may be true if you live in China or Nigeria. That is not true if you live in the same country as the originating entity.

#16: This is not true, a legal binding contract requires people to be able to negotiate about this contract. Since there is no negotiating about terms of this contract placed in installers, and it is an all or nothing deal, they are automaticly void and null legally, and have no meaning and pressing a button I agree has no impact on that. Also, when you have something, you are free to do whatever you want with it. In other words, nobody can ever hold you to anything if you have acquired something legally.

Thank you for this much needed software.

I just tested it: created an installation package for my ebooks in less than 3 minutes; and it worked like a charm.

Tested the Uninstall Option of the created package for the end-user and it also worked without problem.

Haven't tested how much flexibility in branding/customising the installation, but so far, a Great Thumps up!

3 Words to describe this program: Easy, Fast & Professional!

This is not a tool for Software Developers Only, but also for Publishers/File Distributors.

I don't publish software but eBooks which I sell online and on CDs.

If you are thinking: I can't use it: think about sending a file to your friends and wrapping it up in a Smart Install Maker setup file, branded with Your Name, Your Picture, Your Website or Blog link, Your Church or Your Preferred Charity or a cause that you are supporting, etc... and distribute it through file sharing sites, social networking sites, Youtube, ...

If you create files, you can use this software. So download it and use it!
I like and will be using it.

In the past, I have searched for an affordable software which could offer Smart Install Maker features.
There are many freeware alternatives but they come with limitations for commercial use.
And when, there are no commercial use limitations, the setup file must display their brand: this means that at the end of the day, your setup file does not look professional at all, since it displays the company brand at the end.
So this why I like today's GOTD offer.

Thank you so much to both GOTD and InstallBuilders Company.

I've been using the free Inno setup for years (link for those that want something like this if you miss the giveaway deadline): http://www.jrsoftware.org/
It's nice to have another professional installer though.

Was easy to install and activate. I recommend it, it gets thumbs up from me.
Thanks Install Builders Company and the GAOTD team for another great and useful app!

WOW!!! Thankyou oh so verymuch Guys and GalHeads.

I installed and tried this program-> it is the Bomb! Meanig: it is very very good!
This program would be for software developers, or for people who would like to make 'easy' install disks/programs/CDs etc for friends. Anybody who has been looking for one of these knows they usually run well over $100. This one alows TOTAL customizations. You can add...
liscence agreements
notes
pictures or logos
it supports win 95 XP and VISTA
it has options to create an uninstall portion for the end user
End user can select where shortcuts and files are placed
...all sorts of stuff!

Definately one of the coolest programs i have seen on here.

I look foward to purchasing a really cool HTML to EXE convertor soon for about $150 from some company. This program is like the same companies own install maker software [for another $150]-> and I gotta wait till their VISTA version is done.
I am nolonger into computer programming these days, but am fluent in HTML-> and hope to release a music E-Book style application soon.

;*)~
