Installed on XP SP3, with adobe flash player V13 installed, however ThunderSoft Slideshow Factory 3.5.1 wont open after install. Instead it opens a window saying it doesnt find Flash Player Control.

@ #12, Kenneth Kelly (and, er, his cat): Microsoft Windows Photostory 3 pioneered an entire software sector but amazingly, Microsoft never appreciated its worth and fairly quickly abandoned it.

I was one of the earliest adopters of Photostory 3 and know it inside out. I also know that though its original design and construct still leaves even Photodex's (massively) expensive offerings miles behind, in terms of modern-day usabililty, Photostory 3 is a dead duck.

It was created in an era when all computer monitors were beige and all screens were 4:3. Home DVD players were yet to be launched; even the very idea of being able to burn something to a DVD -- gosh, wow! -- was still in the future.

I mention this only because Photostory 3 is often cited here as the best -- and in an academic sense, it most certainly is. To actually use it though, today, with a HD widescreen monitor or via DVD playback through a home HDTV demands a level of technical knowledge that takes months of effort to develop.

In summary: Photostory 3 is a glorious museum-piece, a testament to Microsoft at its very best as well as at its most stupid, a jewel in its crown that it simply threw away. I honestly couldn't recommend it to anyone.

This Thundersoft Slideshow Factory is average. I have the old version 3.4.1 given away here on 29 August 2013. Will not bother to install this Version 3.5.1.

Wanted to try this. Tried installing. After installation it doesn't launch. The message is "runtime error 217 at 4000d9d5".How to fix this? Is it my windows7 32bit or any OS?. Though I have no problem launching other programs till now.

Photostory 3 from microsoft if verry good, it is free. The site says and my neighbor has it on his . it is not for Windows 4 and I have it on an 8. I have been using it for years. It makes great CDs. You can have a voice over for each slide or several slides. Yes background music.

I cannot download the templates from the website. Is there something to do with my setting or is it because the Thundersite website is down?

You can add/modify text on "Decorate" page.

ThunderSoft is an avatar of iPixSoft (like Wondershare is a clone of, among others, iSkySoft - somebody, someday, will have to explain this to me). So, if you have iPixSoft Flash Slideshow Creator, offered here in November 2013, you can share templates (which you will find in the programs’ templates folder in Program Files; just copy and paste them.)

Can I type a tittle at the Album, or type other text?

I've given up the ghost on slideshow maker's for as #3 MikeR correctly points out they are just a plethora of gimmicks, a shame as they could be so useful for conveying information if the images carried audio and text with them.
Microsoft's free program Photo Story 3 does this to some degree but as with most slideshow creators the image quality is highly degraded.
So I'll have to carry on using the one I wrote for myself which unfortunately can only be viewed within Windows. Images are not changed in any way and if linked to an audio file image remains as long as the audio file is playing, linked text files are viewable beneath the image.
If someone could do the above in HTML file so that it could be viewed on any system I would be the first one to download it.

Thundersoft are known for there simple GUI softwares and this is not an exception. provides users with a fantastic tool for quickly creating a slideshow of photos and music. With a simple layout and excellent results, this is a great choice for computer users of all skill and needs levels (personal or business).

Does the program have ability to transfer the video directly to YouTube with the click of a button so that users just simply click an icon after the video is saved and they are taken to the Youtube site.

This software program is very great for slideshow makers and may be even better if the developers make a portable version that can operate with most mobile devices, like adroid, i-phone mobile phones etc.

Also, one tends to imagine this software as a compatible add-in with programs like powerpoint, such that once done with slide contents (not just static pictures but animated infographics, videos etc, user could just add other effects from this software and publish).

Maybe something can be done to reduce the size of the software exe file , some of its market competition weigh about half of it or lesser.

And if one might add, would it accept flash animations or swf files from other programs like aurora as though it is a video file for onward further processing in the program.?

However i advice ALL to seize the moment and DL this software, its not the best in this saturated category, but should rank well above average and could be the best if improved upon. Thanks GAOTD and Thundersoft

This latest version of Thundersoft's slideshow program once again demonstrates that there are some good things under the hood . . . if only you can manage to lift that hood and find 'em.

Evidently unable to provide anything in the way of context-sensitive help -- something that ought to be mandatory for this type of commercial software at this asking price -- the developer instead persists with a Help file that's about as uninformative as the program's overall GUI is unintuitive, and a slapdash approach to design and function that makes you wonder if this is a work-in-progress whose progress will never be finished.

Old, uncorrected glitches still remain, including the irritating failure to accurately manage shift/left click project image selection and addition. After that, confusion abounds, what with choosing a 'template' that isn't any such thing, production sequencing that follows no known logic, and having to contend with a mass of gimmicks that frustrate rather than enhance.

It's a measure of Thundersoft's inability to distinguish between what's important and what's not that it continues to offer a choice of named sub-folders into which a project can be stored -- Business, Personal, Family, Love, Children, Sample -- when no such fussiness is ever needed, yet cannot locate fundamental program controls in the right place: settings for image duration and transition timings are inexplicably buried under the menu option Help.

The transitions are, as ever with this kind of software, mind-numbingly bonkers, and Thundersoft does itself no favours by continuing to screen samples of its own work on its own website which include how to shoot a butterfly to pieces in 101 different ways.

That this hilariously awful sample doesn't show the software's actual ability to meander over a butterfly's astonishing construct, using the program's neatly contrived duration-controlled Pan & Zoom, suggests that even Thundersoft itself hasn't figured out how to use its own product.

A shame, then, that though some progress seems to have been made here, it's not enough to encourage usage as a freebie nor purchase as a product.

The illogical project compilation methodology, woeful absence of meaningful Help, plethora of unnecessary gimmicks, lack of context sensitive guidance, unaddressed glitches and a blatantly cavalier disregard to usabililty -- I've never, ever, seen the key settings of any software stuffed into the Help menu -- constitute a monumental learning curve that I for one simply don't have the time to even contemplate.

Thanks, GOTD, and Thundersoft, but uninstalled.

Again, I have no use for this, so will not rate it. 1 comment so far. Those rating it good or bad should tell us WHY they rated as such. I cannot have any faith in the rating system if its open to abuse, just because YOU don't need it, don't be an ass and rate it thumbs down. If you honestly know why you don't like it, then say so. BE A DECENT HUMAN BEING, not an ass.

I may be tempted to download this tomorrow (its 7:54pm here) and give it a try and rate it decently, seeing as only one other person is capable of it.

A non-standard fancy looking resizable interface opens. Under options (the help mark) you can define the timing, the font properties and the output folder.

Two ready sample templates with photos show the way to work with this software. You can change the templates, you can add "decorations", moving parts "kisses" or "balloons" and you can choose the result as executable or screen saver or HTML5 output. More options here in this window.

I tested the .exe, the .scr and the HTML5. Does what it claims - the templates are very childish, but if you like a fancy slideshow, why not - taste is quite individual and this is more the "Chinese" taste.

I have made a short sample - the "Pizza files". LOL - and to answer an old question - pizza is simple : pizza flour(!!!), water, yeast, salt and a very hot oven.

The upload is an 11 meg video file - so you don't have to run an unknown .exe or install a suspicious screen saver. Have fun!

I am still not a slideshow fan...

Uninstalled via reboot. I try to keep the amount of installed software as low as possible.

It particularly powerful when one presents its own nonfigurative art work . I just do not like the light blue background /skin. And I do not like also that the images of videos are decorated with buttons .
