Great program surprisingly smooth and powerful. There are a LOT of great uses for this software, and the AquaSoft website has plenty of free templates which show some of its abilities.
No export for single frames that I can see, but the mp4 is really good quality. Uses for this program include simple motion tracking, video titling and basic compositing. It supports an alpha channel too!

Calling it a Slideshow underestimates what it can do. It's packed full of goodies. I'll be VERY tempted to upgrade sometime soon in the future. They have a few different programs which is a little confusing - but this is a great offer and I recommend it.

Thanks for a wonderful download AquaSoft.

Why no commercial use. Doesn't that mean you can't use it to advertise a product for sell and load it up to Youtube. Kinda bites.

Reply   |   Comment by rhonda lewis  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Hi Rhonda,

This particular software version is for personal use, we do have other versions/the possibility to purchase a commercial license. You can make your own videos, as a small business, etc. but not for example make videos for a client and sell it to them. I hope that clarifies it a bit.

Interesting comments/reviews about this product so I want to try and learn how to make an slideshow. Registered and downloaded but based on my experiences in downloading various softwares, it's the slowest download I've ever experienced. It's as if I'm downloading a torrent file. It's still on it's 40% download stage after 10 minutes.

Reply   |   Comment by Romalliv  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Romalliv,

I am unsure why the download was so slow yesterday, normally it goes pretty quickly. In any case, there is a help file within the program, manuals on our website, and first steps in the top right corner, which should all help you get up and running with your first slideshow in no time. However you can also make much more than traditional slideshows with the software, combine videos, create animations, our Youtube channel has many resources for inspiration: www.youtube.com/aquasoftnews/

Installed without problem on my Win7 32bit system. The interface is nicely laid out and although I've only had a short time to play around with it, I'm very impressed. Within half an hour I'd put together a short two scene presentation that included multiple images coming onto the screen, some following custom paths, I'd inserted a map and overlayed a car travelling along a path and leaving a trail behind. I'm curious to see what else I can do with this one when time permits. Another positive is that it seems to run very smoothly even on my comparatively old system, far better than the video editor I have, and offers previews in realtime without problem.

It's a fairly deep program by the looks of it but there appears to be a pretty good help system, which is nice to see.

Very rarely do I find myself leaving a comment on here but this is definitely one to grab if you have any interest whatsoever in creating presentations that go beyond the normal slideshow with music efforts. Not often I'd consider paying for something given away on here, this one I would.

Still trying. The link on the window which asks for the reg code
leads to a page asking me to register.

I'm already registered so it then send me to a page to log in.
Unfortunately each time I try to log in it rejects the password
which I reset the last time around.

But even after getting over that hurdle (resetting password again)
I go to a page which lists products - no link for a reg. code.

Exasperating,

Scrolling through the help file [ aquasoft[.]net/download/files/diashow8/DiaShow_en.pdf ], SlideShow 8 Premium & later versions are pretty close to what you'll find in video editors [NLEs] at the lower mid range level -- the main difference is that SlideShow is focused on stills, where the NLE's don't really care so much what you put on the time line or story board. Less options make it easier to use than many NLEs, and if you go by list price, their Slideshow apps are slightly cheaper, so likely competitive in the marketplace, but that's assuming list price... that market isn't booming, and sale pricing on lower mid-range NLEs can be Very low -- I bought Nero Platinum 2016, with their video editor + all the other features for $12 on Amazon.

Being similar to a NLE, SlideShow 8 Premium is more work than using one of the many less capable slide show apps out there, but, the fact that those apps are less capable shows in the results. That's not saying anything bad about those folks who prefer simpler & easier... the comparison I'd make is to cooking, where you can do something quick, or you can spend days in preparation of a meal. Some enjoy cooking, & the results of their extra work -- some do not.

Where SlideShow 8 Premium [& later versions] are very similar to NLEs, there's one thing missing that I think would be useful for AquaSoft to add, & that's some sort of color matching color correction. I didn't look at the help file for their top of the line software, so it may be in there, but I didn't see it mentioned in any of their feature lists. Editing, adjusting a still image so it looks its best is one thing, but when you're watching a video [which is what you get out of SlideShow], you want everything to match -- the grass & trees & sky etc. from different camera shoots, angles, & with different lighting should all look basically the same [when they make a movie they actually have colorists who do that & set the visual tone of the finished film]. Think of it as normalization, only for what you see rather than what you hear.

One area where the different versions of SlideShow don't compete with many NLEs is in DVD/Blu-Ray creation... Create slideshow videos in Nero or Corel competing products & you can create [albeit somewhat limited] menus for those discs, without having to go out & get some other program. That won't matter to everyone of course, but if for example I bought & used their Stages app for pro work on DVD or Blu-Ray, I'd want to add menus so I could include background info etc. Or if I was creating a slideshow for a family vacation or move or whatever, I'd like a DVD or Blu-Ray with menus so I could have several smaller slideshow videos -- if I shot pictures &/or video of my child's [or grandchild's] recital or school play, I think it'd be a nice touch to also have a slideshow of the days or weeks or months of preparation & practice, & maybe another showing after the recital or play. That sort of thing can be separate slideshow videos, or just one -- the menu lets you jump to the part you want either way.

While there are often wizards available, like with today's GOTD, when you use the full capabilities of SlideShow 8 Premium or a NLE you import your pictures &/or video & background audio, then arrange the order where everything is to appear, & for how long. Then you add & adjust transitions between those elements, add any FX, and if desired, record your voice-over or narration. When you're done you render everything to a video file. Prep work beforehand can help, e.g if you're going to reduce the size of a bunch of image files, doing that before you import them into the software means that rendering process will not take as long, because there's less work to do, plus previewing your video in the software may work better. When it comes to very large frame size video, some use proxies -- special software creates lower rez video that you use assembling & editing your work, then brings the full-size video in its place for the final render. AquaSoft mentions something similar with their more expensive software -- I mention it because cell phones now can record 4k video, which can be a challenge editing on lower powered PCs/Laptops.

Hi Mike,

Excellent and very detailed feedback! You can be sure I will be copying your message and sharing it throughout the office. It is important and very helpful to understand what comparisons are being drawn between our product and others, what users expect in terms of capabilities, and what they feel may be lacking or in need of improvement.

I will touch upon just two of your many great points, the first of which is the DVD menu. I agree completely that in a professional capacity as well as personal one, DVDs are simply more interesting when you can have a menu, chapters, etc. I am happy to say that both Stages and Ultimate offer DVD menus. You can use one of the many templates as is, or you can edit them and put in your own buttons, arrows, etc. You can even create your own from scratch. Here is a quick video about it SlideShow 9 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dL7EL9gw_58

If I understand correctly with regards to photos and color matching, you are looking for something that for example, could offer a variety of blue hues, so that your video would have a thematic look, is that correct? I can't say that there is a color matching feature, however the image editor is quite powerful in terms of what you can do to adjust a photo and it's colors, shadow, etc. Also, when you want to create something similar on several photos/videos you can create the effects on one, save your edits as a template in the software and then apply it again and again on future projects. The last point that could help with a thematic flow, would be the image effects (the higher versions have a wider selection, but Premium has many) which can be applied to images and in later versions to text as well, these are the equivalent of popular Instagram filters, and then even these pre-made effects can be adjusted to suit your needs.

We are more than happy to get questions, feel free to drop us a line at support@aquasoft.net I think your feedback and usage details are very helpful, and I would welcome discussing them further with you.

This program really surprised me. I have loved many of the great programs that have been offered here over the years as I have been with them since they started. Program downloaded very fast, installed and registration completed within 5 minutes. No problem on Win 10 64 pro. I watched the demo, worth the time to do so and said, no way could it be this easy. I have used several of the big name programs and at time lost some hair from pulling it out.
The learning curve on this program is very easy and I found the help to be point on. It took me about 15 mins to put together as short slide presentation using many of the available options, sound, voice, video and pictures, along with mixing them together. This program is in my opinion a keeper and Thanks GOTD for all you programs and this one also.
My only complaint on the program is the amount of time it took to render to a web ready file. I have a very fast computer with 32gig of memory and it took quite a while. So be prepared to wait a bit for your finished and ready to post work
Even with my only complaint, I would rate this program as very good and will work for just about the most demanding creator.

Took forever to download from the download link (otherwise if you are on social media such as facebook, twitter, or google plus) where you can share this giveaway offer... which is fine.. just very slow download. BUT.. the program was verrry easy to install, verrry easy to get the registration, and verrry easy to setup. Used it to create a small simple slide show and it worked with great ease. Added various size photos, and music.. exported as an mp4.. played it back as such and it worked excellent. Highly recommend this program. Looking forward to trying out a few (not really that many)bells and whistles. Great giveaway! Thank you!

Downloaded, installed and registered easily and quickly on Windows 10 64 bit.

I have tried and used a number of slideshow creators and found many to be good but few offering all the facilities I wanted. Slideshow 8 premium does all I ask and more! Easy to use and very capable. I have been using it for an hour or two and have created a couple of slideshows with music tracks that have really pleased me.

I am impressed and will definitely be keeping this one! Thank you Aquasoft and GAOTD.

Installed and registered with no problems in Windows 10. I thought I selected "English" as the language for installation and again when the program window opened after registration. The "First Steps" window still displays in German. Did I do something wrong? I can't see any option to change this.

My user manual is in English but my only option for "Video Tutorials" is German. They're online so I can use a translator app but I wonder if I missed something. Should I uninstall and reinstall the program?

Thank you for the program.

Hi Sheila,

The tutorials are in German? That must be a glitch that the program isn't accessing the right materials. Deleting won't help as it is something we need to adjust on our end, these things are all linking to somewhere else. You can find all of the same tutorials on our Youtube channel (which is where the program sends you anyway) :) www.youtube.com/aquasoftnews/

adif,

Double click the audio track and then a window opens and you can delete and add as many tracks as you need/want. There is a handy help file in the program and on the top right there is a lightbulb that says first steps, the videos link there go over the basic functions to get you up and running with your projects. :)

I downloaded this in order to test whether it would work on my Win 10 computer, as I noticed that it didn't work for a previous commenter. Download was slow over my cheap wifi connection, but zip extract went quickly. I noticed right away that there were only 2 files included in the zip file, and - when beginning to install - that it was aquasoft and not softdeluxe that was in charge, so GAOTD was not using its separate wrapper. Despite this, I continued with the installation up to this point.

What stopped the installation was visions of gestapo breaking into my home - prompted by reading the EULA. After stopping the installation I quickly deleted both the zip file directory and the unzipped directory, and I cleaned them from my "recycle bin". I hope in this way I have avoided the potential for spyware/malware that may/may not have been included in this, or subsequently attached to this, as this was not a GAOTD-wrapped program and there are no assurances that it is free from malware.

Aquasoft may be the best software designer/company on the market, but I'll never know. For a program that I was going to use only once simply to test whether or not it would run on Windows 10, and for which I would have no other conceivable use, considering that I can do everything it claims (which isn't much) via other means, and also that I have no need for an antiquated concept as a slide show, I saw no need to submit myself to the rigeurs of registration. I'm better off taking my chances of winning a chance to win a free license to run a $9-10 game on the weekend.

Have been looking for a software like this which has a zoom/pan option on the photos. This software was excactly what I have been looking for. It also has lots of other effects and transitions so it is definatelly a keeper!

This is not a slideshow maker. It is simply a program to make videos out of photos and videos with plenty of transition options. The output/export options are limited and limited to video meant to burn to CD/DVD/BR. A pretty deprecated workflow. Most people do not use that kind of media any more. I need to create slideshow sharable on the web. The out put file size of their own sample in ove 500MB as MP4 and over 200MB as Web M file. The descryion indicate that you could ouput to animated GIF. Either a lie or this offering on GOTD is limited and not a true full version. The animated GIF option was the main reason I was interested in this piece of software.

Photographer,
I used to be a regular reader at the Aquasoft.de forum for practically a decade because of my own general interest in slideshows.
However the usual flow of topics/threads made me think that they never managed to get one product polished or properly working before they put the next version on the market.
Terrific work and support had been given over the years by loyal members of that forum, and Aquasoft were practically relying on these beta field-testers throughout.
For a long, long time the mood with their trusted testers was that a proper slideshow and video implementation did not belong together.
So Aquasoft literally missing years of building up expert know-how, and when they finally got round to it, produced stuff which looked good? on short-length demos but not in real-life shows.
The arch mistake they made was to add countless numbers of overdone transitions, which none of their supporters even asked for, but imho altogether failed in putting one single product on the market where output was non-jerky, simply pleasurable to watch and easy enough to create. Disparity with sound after a certain length of show was a common complaint, images not rendered though in the show, and so on.
Even the use of which codec to use for what type of show was never adequately answered, simply because they never even implemented or supported the use of high-grade codec.
The numbers of supporters to that forum (run by Aquasoft) has shrunk in the last 2 - 3 years to an insignificant number.
The demo on YT on their latest high-end slideshow product Aquasoft Stages 10 Slideshow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6n9HkTWbhA
would not make me recommend buying an upgraded version.
Those who feel happy with todays' freebie should enjoy using it but as you never get them to commit themselves to what specification of hardware you need for successful working, because their only and standard recommendation is updating graphics card driver and plenty of free space on harddisk.

FWIW, a slideshow is just a series of stills shown one after another -- they're called slideshows because you used to put a bunch of slides in a slide projector, which would advance to the next slide when you clicked the wired remote.

For many people the easiest way to take a picture is using their cell phone. Since most cell phones have limited storage, the easiest way for them to store those pictures is in the cloud. Since their photos are already on some company's servers, the easiest way to do a slideshow is using that service's built-in tools. It's both common & popular because it's so easy, but it's not the only nor the best way to do it, plus you're limited to the basic tools the service has to offer. That said, if this sort of thing works for you & you're happy with it, go for it. :)

Today most monitors &/or screens are between 1080p & 4k. 720p will fill the screen, but stills don't have video's constant motion to distract viewers, so they will see the lower quality from the lower rez -- unless it's something like a How-To where that doesn't matter, use 1080p [or higher]. Locally one option is a collection of stills played with a media player or Blu-Ray player -- online that means 1080p [or better] streaming video, or if you don't want/need higher quality motion FX, a series of web pages -- off-line hand off the video on USB sticks or Blu-Ray discs. Animated GIFs are for smaller avatars & such -- not only do you lose your color range, but it's too inefficient a format when it comes to file sizes.

mike,

A video is a series of photos for that matter. a Correct naming of this product would be a video maker, like Microsoft's own that does pretty much the same basic functions. I didn't need yet another video maker, I adobe premiere, along other paid software. I actually read the specs on their website that claimed to offer a variety of output options, including animated GIF, which has its own niche.
I regret wasting my time on reading, installing and running this program just to find that it does not do what it promises.
I hope my review helps some people and save their time

Photographer: Not sure what your definition of home entertainment is, but I am sure that a computer screen is not at the center of my home or that of any of my friends and relatives.

To say that "Most people do not use that kind of media anymore" is to seriously under-estimate the appeal of the DVD slideshow, something which because it is composed frame-by-frame, image-by-image, is more often that not a darn sight better than video footage that, no matter how well edited, isn't ever going to reach a cinematic standard *unless* the work has been undertaken by a pro.

I've had more than a decade's experience of making slideshows and though I could equally as well switch to full time video, I haven't done so because slideshows are visually and aurally superior -- or can be, if done right.

Friends who recently returned from a trip around Australia sent us a DVD of their home-made slideshow. We watched it in our lounge, on the big screen TV. It was cinematic -- Ken Burns Effect et al -- and we were able to sit back and relax and have a drink and enjoy the experience far, far more than viewing something on a computer monitor.

As to today's giveaway, I haven't posted a review because a slideshow project takes time and effort, neither of which were available to me today. However: I have DL'd this and registered it -- took all of 5 minutes for the entire process -- and will embark on a 'proper' project next week.

In summary, all I'm saying is please, don't assume that just because you don't care for something, it's therefore obsolescent. it isn't. In terms of sheer cinematic power, Ken Burns's original 'Civil War' series for US television remains one of the most eminently watchable -- again, and again -- documentary productions ever undertaken. . . and yes: it's a slideshow. (And available on DVD.)

MikeR,
DVD output by PAL standard is not in HD format.
A classic digital slideshow is one where the narrator/presenter can speak over or stop the show at any point using the slideshow player as stop/go control.
At the time Aquasoft version XP was to my knowledge for price , value and handling almost the gold standard of such a slide show. If you download and watch the demo show from YT with a critical and compare that Aquasoft promo video with any old video taken by a standard DSLR it gives you the creeps. I would expect my countrymen from beautiful Potsdam not to commission a promotional video to the local school kids, though I expect they would turn out something better.
Fancy transitions do nothing to good quality photos, smooth alpha-blending is the thing. No kidding, but Adobe LR produces non-fancy but better quality slideshows in video format with less resolution.
One of the frequently voiced problems was that Aquasoft could not handle full scale photos but recommended to resize to output format.
So yes indeed, a slideshow using single still frames turned into videos can be a very mediocre compromise compared to the quality of the original photo.
Would anybody expect brilliant quality from the Matroska codec?
For free is for free and as such OK

I'm impressed. Did a video-only film in about 30 min as a quick demo using 4 or so HD MP4 clips out of my camera, with various transition effects, an added soundtrack, and a few other background effects (autumn leaves, etc) and output everything to an MP4 file. Played the MP4 file back using VLC and got a perfect reproduction of the clips along with all the cool effects.

Never seen or used it before, and was super easy to get something up and running. As a first time monkey user, it didn't freeze/crash/dummy-spit during the entire process despite my numerous "wonder what this button does?" mouse-clicks all over the place. I like the clean look and feel of the interface, and the transitions are awesome! Enticed to explore it more - like I guess I should try out the slideshow capability, which is the main feature, eh? This is a keep for me (Intel i5, 32 bit, Win/10). Thanks folks!

I see that you have a PDF manual for slideshow8 but not any tutorials. I see that I need chrome viewer to view it.

2 points.

Let people download the manual, on mobile devices and bandwidth limits having it locally reduces carrier charges for excess limits.

Why do you ask for feedback and improvements on a product that is 2 revs out of date? seems pointless.

Reply   |   Comment by Spam Sorenson  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Spam Sorenson: Today's developer maintains a very useful 'Help' archive covering both current and previous editions of this software. You're not restricted to Chrome viewer or any other kind of viewer and in any event, the sheer size of the User Manual -- 192 A4 pages for this particular version -- is obviously best offered as a PDF . . . which is exactly what the developer is doing. Simply go here:

http://www.aquasoft.net/en/help/manuals

scroll down to Slideshow 8, and there's the manual.

I appreciate, sometimes with a simple program, online help is all that's needed, but this isn't a simple program, hence all kudos to the developer for providing a User Manual that's as comprehensive yet as easy to use as any I've come across.

To Aquasoft:

Slideshow 8 is impressive. Apparently this is version 8 giveaway and version 10 is $50. Compared to other options for presentation this is great value with lots of features and a very reasonable ticket.

Not having experienced the use of this - or having an immediate need, I wonder what the learning curve is. I know that it took me weeks to use most of the features of PowerPoint with its typical clumsy and arcane standard Office UI. (MS hides stuff and moves it to confuse on each rev.) Have you any stats on how long it takes to learn?

The demo has awful music. An optional pleasant voice-over would be far more appealing.

That aside, the demo says to copy and paste any effect, that's useful, but can you break each effect into a tutorial video to show how it is created? The problem for me is synchronizing effects with an animated slide - instructional. For example: "...placing the transpacitor over the cross coupling flux monitor..." and synchronizing the introduction of the AV to the voice is a very tedious process. with many moving parts animation a single slide in PPT can take me 3 days. Adjusting the AV visibility times (start time - fade in duration, visible duration - fade start and duration after set up, ) are possible in PPT but extremely difficult when multiple triggers are involved in a single slide, (start after element 1 ends, start 3.5 seconds after element one audio starts, fade out after element 2 closes).

Coordination of not just the visual but audio synchronization is a challenge and tutorials (using your own slideshow products would be useful.) Each effect or group of effects that show how to do each would be great. It is difficult to remember 3 weeks after a single slide remembering how a single slide was synchronized. This is a real challenge to modify, particularly if you don't use slideshow8 often.

Bottom line is thanks for this, I will be using it in about a month - If I can figure it out, and if it is easier than PPT. The overall look see is impressive.

Spam Sorenson,

"Not having experienced the use of this - or having an immediate need, I wonder what the learning curve is."

If it helps at all, generally with a NLE type app I've found the hardest parts are figuring out how stuff like their pan & zoom or things like particle FX actually work [not how they're supposed to work], by rendering a bunch of small tests, usually with lower rez stills &/or video so it didn't take long to render. That's something I usually spend ~4 hours or so on. Whilst I usually pick up tricks & shortcuts along the way, once i have an idea of what's possible, I concentrate on the basics, dragging or placing stills/clips, seeing how to change things like duration, checking out the photo-type filters to get an idea if they're worth using or if I'm better off doing that somewhere else. I'll spend about 3-4 hours on that.

After that it's always been fairly easy going, because I've got a decent idea of what the software's capable of, what it's best [& worst] at, & don't waste time because I play to its strengths, avoiding getting hung up on how to do something that just doesn't work, or work well at all in that app. Yes the time spent up front is a drudge, but *to me* it's always been the lesser of evils compared to a fully rendered project that I have to scrap & start over.

"and synchronizing the introduction of the AV to the voice is a very tedious process. with many moving parts animation a single slide in PPT can take me 3 days. Adjusting the AV visibility times... start after element 1 ends, start 3.5 seconds after..."

Yes... It is often easier dragging things along a timeline, but tedious is a very apt word. A pro editor will try to use the keyboard as much as possible with the goal of making it [as possible] a production line sort of thing. A pro will also tend to avoid time consuming stuff, or very high levels of precision when they can get away without. In fact, that's often how pros will guess something was done by an amateur.

"I will be using it in about a month - If I can figure it out, and if it is easier than PPT. "

I have no idea what your project is, so of course can't say anything for sure... I can say SlideShow 8 Premium doesn't seem hard at all, but if price is no object you might want to check out Vegas -- they do have a trial. Vegas is generally judged the easiest, most intuitive app to learn editing on or with, & it is quite capable.

Troubleshooting:
Of course sometimes issues come up, in case they do during your set-up or registration process, here are some that users have encountered before and their solution.

1. If you have a previous version of the software:
You do not need to re-register as you already have an AquaSoft account. On the registration page there is a prompt that says “Click here to login” follow that link to login and then you will get a message that says something along the lines of "Successful registration!". *This is not actually logging you in, but rather saving you from the process of registration and confirming your email. Last stop is to actually log in here: http://www.aquasoft.net/en/account/login and there you can find your new serial number as well as previous serial numbers.

2. Lost/ forgotten password:
If you’ve forgotten your password, we don't have passwords stored unfortunately, so we cannot see what it is to send it to you. However, you can reset it here: www.aquasoft.net/en/account/new-password

3. Copying and pasting the serial number:
Normally you should be able to copy and paste the serial number without any issues. However, sometimes it doesn’t work properly, in this case you can copy the serial number from the e-mail and then to paste it use the clipboard symbol to the right of the blank serial number boxes within the program.

*IMPORTANT: If you are having issues please do not uninstall the program, as once the promotion is over with GOTD we do not have the set up files. Rather please send us an e-mail to support@aquasoft.net and we are more than happy to get you up and running with the software!

Hi Tata,

We took the feedback we have gotten in the past 2 hours or so about the process and updated it to make it a bit easier. Let me re-cap to make sure that I understood. You have a previous version, you forgot your password so you went ahead and reset it. Then you received a new password from us and it is now not working, is that correct? At what point in the process is it stalling?

Here is the registration page again, please go there and try to log in, we have made changes where you should see your serial number right away. http://www.aquasoft.de/link/gotd_diashow8premium8603_en

If that doesn't help please send me an email at support@aquasoft.net and I am more than happy to get you up and running with the program. I appreciate the effort you've put in (40 minutes), it is usually a 5 minute process, so sorry about that.

Installed no problem on windows home premium 64 bit - registration was not too difficult but it took some time and required filling out an online form and submitting it, clicking on an email confirmation and then they send the code to you. The program looks like a keeper to me. The interface is decent and I think the learning curve will be easy considering the options. Considerably robust for a free program and the price they ask fair but not overly fair.
This is the video they suggest you watch if you are on the fence about getting the program.
