Do not know what all the complaints about registration key are about. Took me to the site, added email address, press get full version, then added a few details and key displayed on the screen. Cut and pasted, activated and installed without a hitch.

Downloaded & installed VERY quickly - registration went fast. Launched - it crashed immediately. Rebooted Win10, launched again. It took about 5 full minutes to render a standard JPG photo. Results needed improvement, so tweaked the settings and tried to run again - CRASH. This keeps happening - the results of the sketch vary, when it completes, but because of all the crashing and it's so slow to even show the preview... I'll keep it for now but can't imagine purchasing this unless it were stable.

Yes, I understand it's free!!! Wonder why their pricing is so expensive when there are many freeware programs that do the same thing --and more. Sketch Drawer does an excellent job but they should look at the competition and charge accordingly. Again, just wondering...

I'd prefer either just showing the effect on the image, or even a half option instead of the click and drag option. A side by side preview vs showing the effect would be preferred choices instead.

I see there is no 8bf file, therefore there is no way to use it as a plugin for Paintshop Pro, Photoshop etc. Wish that would be available in the future instead of having to use both programs separately. Doing that for 32 & 64 bit versions of the graphic programs would be outstanding.
Thanks for allowing us to make suggestions.

I suppose, that Sketch Drawer convert bitmap images into vector graphic file format. But I would like to know exactly what kind of images can be as a result of conversion.

I have downloaded this program twice, requested the password code several times with each.. Have not received it yet. And I did not do all that bang bang.. I gave it plenty of time. What gives?

Issue resolved, I had to use a different email address.. That makes no sense.

I have an older version of this program and for a freebie, there's not much to complain about. It works quite well.

To SoftOrbits developers I just had a look at the supplied SketchDrawer.chm felp file and it contains LONG obsolete information under the System Requirements:

"SoftOrbits Photo to Sketch Converter need any computer where you can launch Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10."

This is not true and has not been true for a long time. The 32bit executable can only be recognised as a valid win32 application under XP and above and the 64bit executable can only be recognised as a valid win64 application under VIsta and above. NO part of todays giveaway can possibly execute under Windows 2000 desktop or server edition.

The product name in the CHM file is also wrong... this product is Sketch Drawer 6.0 NOT "Photo To Sketch Converter"

This will install and run under Windows Vista without issue... only potential problem will be their custom email based serial code generation and delivery system. It *might* also run under XP SP3 as the executable is compiled so that XP will recognise it as a valid win32 application and it does not use any Windows 7 or above features.

I thought it was the real deal , why isn't there a registration code ? as not automatic

Reply   |   Comment by di  –  6 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

di , did you rename the provides installer from the suppled name of SketchDrawer_pt1.exe to anything else? If you did then it will install as a trial only and require you to BUY a new key. If you install it as supplied in the giveaway zip bundle then it will run some extra installer functions to enable you to request a free key by email and eventally apply it during the installation.
Previous experience shows that the giveaway installer is exactly the same file as is downloadable from their website just the giveaway has the special file name to trigger the special installer code to enable giveaway license retrieval.

Tried to install on WIndows XP machine, got a kernal.dll missing error and had to uninstall. Just my two cents.

Reply   |   Comment by Jim Duyer  –  6 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Jim Duyer, I don't think it was exactly as you describe since the 32bit program does not use Kernal.dll it does use KERNEL32.DLL and could possible report that a particular procedure was not found in KERNEL32.DLL in which case it could be built using a Windows Vista specific KERNEL32.DLL function. I say Vista specific and not Windows 7 specific because I know the 32bit version of the program runs without error under windows Vista and produces quite pleasing results.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  6 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

OK, amend my comment to read kernel32.dll, or simply state that it DOES NOT work on WINdows XP if you prefer. I'm sure it is a fine program, but unfortunately it won't work for me.

William, the activation code immediately shows up on the website after you fill in the registration fields. Try again.

Same here

Reply   |   Comment by di  –  6 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

William, this is the reason that vendor controlled email based license distribution is a BAAAAAD idea for a giveaway... there is no garantee that by giving the vendor our email address that the desired emails WILL arrive during the giveaway period and absolutely zero garantee that no future spam will arrive in the future either from the vendor let alone 3rd party companies.
Other potential reasons why we could not receive a reg code email maybe if we had given them the same email before and they subsiquently auto-subscribed us to some marketing email without our consent so we unsubscribe from future mailings and then when we go to participate in next giveaway we may not receive the email for that reg code reception because they've put us on a do not send future malings block list... They should display the code ON the page after we have submitted our details if they really must harvest our email addresses!

Very quick and easy download, easy installation if you read the rules. Had this years ago, didn't use it often but it was handy now and again. Looking forward to getting to know it all over again!

P.S. Once upon a time, installing any SoftOrbits programme could uninstall previous things, but I have heard that the problem has been fixed now. Fingers crossed.

muhozah, Sorry to hear that! For me the registration went like clockwork. It has been several years since I've registered anything with SoftOrbits, though - I wonder whether it just ignores older programmes. One other thought - sometimes you can use a different e-address and still get the registration. Maybe you'd want to try that?

Used to be if you downloaded a Softorbits GiveAwayOfTheDay program SoftOrbits would deactivate the license of any other SoftOrbits Giveaway programs you had installed on your computer. This was, to put it mildly annoying, because they didn't tell you about this.

Does anyone know if this is still the case? Like, has anyone who has downloaded today's offering found that any other Giveaways they have from SoftOrbits are no longer registered/only trial versions?

Thanks for the info. I much appreciate it.

Yes, this is a good program, but I don't want to lose their photo background remover program I downloaded a while ago.

ArtG,
if I understand what you're saying correctly, you say there could be only one giveaway softeware working at any given time. Well, I currently have several (at least 6-7) software installed via Giveaway, and all of them work fine.

Reply   |   Comment by bio  –  6 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

bio, I think what ArtG is saying is that if you have a previous Giveaway from Softorbits, not necessarily Sketch Draw, they may disable that when you activate this one. So I ask you, are those other programs you are talking about from Softorbits? If you already have more than one giveaway from Softorbits, and they are all working, then the deactivation of previous Softorbits programs may have been stopped.

Reply   |   Comment by L. Cleveland Major  –  6 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

ArtG, They store the activation in your computer's registry. In the past the would use the same key for different programs. That's why activating a new Softorbits program made their previous giveaways lose their activation.
Nowadays each Softorbits giveaway gets its unique key. So the key of a newer giveaway will not overwrite the key of a previous giveaway. I keep a copy of all their registry keys. Better safe than sorry.

This program UI is too simple (doesn't mean its bad), took a while for me to realize how to actually use this, as a user of complex image editing program i though that i need to select whole image with that rectangle selection until i realize it just for sampling and once you run the "Run" button there is no need to actually "Undo" before applying another preset on same pic but it kinda useful to see how each presets result (dev need to label those button with "CTRL+Z" for undo and "Shift+CTRL+Z" for Redo), aside from that this program functionality is pretty good can make lot of task to create one photo into sketch into a few click of mouse

Results aren't bad at all with plenty of options and presets, plus it doesn't seem to take ages to process even on my somewhat underpowered laptop. Could come in handy by saving time converting portraits to base sketches prior to working them up into oil paintings manually in an art app.

Version 6-0 is the one sold on website, so seems to be the latest. Version 2019 must be either a 'Lite' version or V 6.0 .
SoftOrbits do good, easy to use software with no learning curve required, but they are limited to doing only one thing. Their customer service is very good also, but having too many one-trick ponies on my laptop only clogs my desktop. Its best to have software that does several things.

Multiple use software is more cost effective. I want to fix my image contrast etc then straighten it up if its at a slight angle then maybe remove the mother-in-law and the dog doing a dump in the background. Maybe sharpen blurred faces and remove a few wrinkles and warts on the faces, color the grey sky a bit or maybe change background altogether. After doing all this then I would need to do one save only, saving and time money.

I remember MicroGrafx Picture Publisher used to do all this....and much more, like stitching etc. That was 20 years ago. Learning curve wasn't too intensive either. Unfortunately it was discontinued when bought over by Corel who replaced it with an inferior Photo Director, although it still works on XP and some versions of W7.

I already have Sketch Drawer 6.0 from a previous giveaway......this giveaway is called Sketch Drawer 2019.
In fact it's actually Sketch Drawer 6.0 (see their webpage).....so for me, no point in installing this giveaway.
Having said that, for those who don't have Sketch Drawer.....I totally recommend the program.

Is this version 2019 any different from last the giveaway, version 6? Once you download it, it usually wipes over previous downloads. I find most software versions marked in years instead of numbers tend to be light versions.

Best results on a normal photo is in classic mode and tweak the color and hatching. Also best, if your are over 30, to smooth the skin in another App or you will look like you climbed out of the crypt.
