Good: *It has metadata-editing.
*You can add passwords.
*Easy converting.
*Right-click+in-built "printing'.

Bad: *Passwords only in 1 way.
*2 encryption types.

ALL: Recommended.

I agree with Ashraf... "messed up" is the understatement of the year. "Simpo" also make a PDF editor product that is easily the worst junk on the PDF market. Prints graphics with lines through them. There are much better .PDF printers out there - the one we like is called PDF Creator and it's an open source project on SourceForge (beware immitators and sound-alikes which are loaded with spyware)

This software is crapola - steer clear.

It really appears that Simpo has spent alot of effort trying to promote this software by using the comments and rating system. This is supposed to be used by GAOTD users, not by companies trying to push things on to us. How about just let us try it and let us evaluate it. Otherwise, it's time to move on.

@ 18 & 43
Yes, PDF Forge may be Open Source BUT the toolbar it contains (PDFCreator Toolbar) has been described as malware.

"Users have reported that this software changes their computer settings. PDFCreator's end-user-license-agreement states that the software will "modify your Microsoft Internet Explorer and/or Mozilla Firefox browser settings for the default search engine, address bar search, "DNS error" page, "404 error" page, and new tab page to facilitate more informative responses as determined by The Toolbar". All instances of "page not found - 404 errors" redirect to a search site that has been reported as causing multiple problems for users. The toolbar disclosure screen can irritate users, who think they have deselected the toolbar while not removing it from the list of installed components as stated on the screen. Some reviewers have termed the toolbar as "malware" and PDFForge has received criticism for including this toolbar with PDFCreator."

Open office already has built into it the ability to convert word docs and excel sheets to pdf format. You just right click on doc to save and choose 'export to pdf' instead.

The hyper links are clickable as well.

There are too many negative comments for me to download this product. But I do appreciate very much such software being given along with the ability to give realistic reviews.

This offering has several issues which make it a bad idea to download. Several free alternatives that have been mentioned will do a better job.

#30 jeeem,

You couldn't be more wrong. All ashraf does is promote himself and his site and provides constant misinformation. which makes it difficult for people with real knowledge to get their message across.

So get a clue and get a life yourself before you spew out insults. At least know what you are talking about.

In final with pdf creator(sourceforge)and X Change pdf viewer like default viewer and pdf sam(for merge pdf) i make everythink(almost). With Pdf creator addon for I.E. i save image from internet direct in pdf.In Office 2003 also use:Printer>Pdf Creator and save in pdf. When i open this pdf, will be open with Pdf X change viewer and put comments, etc and save again like pdf with comments etc.If i want to merge this files i use pdf sam.For insert link is 7 pdf maker or Tomahawk(v.Pro)-free it is posible with some tricks. What is missing?,program to insert video and(or) audio in pdf.Pdf Creator has gs inside but you can download the latest ghost script and at: options>ghost script you can choise the latest version (if you install the latest, before to install this soft). So all you need is free soft.

I don't understand why this software needs to contact the internet before creating a PDF.

Also, I tried it on Quark XPress and it crashed twice.

When I loaded the download page a-squared forced a block saying this:

Hosts engaged in malware distribution. This classification is assigned to websites engaged in the distribution of malware (e.g. adware, spyware, trojans and viruses, etc).

There has been a number of give aways that have installed malware. The worst was The Rise of Atlantis which installed Trymedia, a biatch to get rid of especially since it hides itself so well. A-squared database specifically states that this virus is distributed via the installation of Rise of Atlantis.

Also yesterday's give away Cleanse Uninstaller Pro 6 though a-square allowed it to install, blocked portions of it automatically on first run.

I can't print to file either but bigger problem...

I click to convert a word doc to PDF and it does it, but whether or not I tick "merge all files into one PDF" my document starts with 2 pages of a test PDF I did which is nonsense really. I can't just print off a 4 page word doc as a 4 page PDF, I get 6 pages, two from hours ago and my 4.

Hi all!!

A few days ago GIZMO’s software published a very impressive GEM called “7-PDF MAKER” that seemed to be the best PDF CONVERTER out there, much better than both this GAOTD and all the freeware tools listed by Ashraf and the other GAOTD's bloggers here.

In fact, 7-PDF MAKER not only can convert a wide range of files in other formats (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OpenOffice, StarOffice, Jpg, TIFF,BMP images, text or HTML webpages) to high quality PDF files but, unlike other virtual PDF printer such as today’s giveaway, the PDF files converted by 7-PDF MAKER contain clickable hyperlinks and bookmarks: amazing for a FREE SOFTWARE, isn’t it??

The only drawback is the size of its installer: 60.7 MB (what the hell?? LOL!!) but in my view it's definitely worth downloading.

You can download this GEM here (on the first link there is also a portable version of this product):

http://www.7-pdf.de/

Or here:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/PDF/7-PDF-Maker.shtml

Enjoy!!

It appears as Simpo has written a lot of positive comments in this forum today. Comments promoting their "PDF Merge & Split" product.
They also give positive scores to each other, and very negative scores to anyone giving negative comments to their product, like Ashraf.

I tested this product and it's not working properly. This looks as a bad marketing scam.

Seems to work but I don't see much of an advantage to it over the free alternatives -- Bullzip (my current Best of Breed) or PDFCreator -- except for creating PDF/A; something I don't need. OTOH, it's missing some handy features that Bullzip offers; like watermarks and merging.

I am sorry to say, that I see the same problems as #14.
Althougt it says: "Work as a virtual printer to convert any printable documents to PDF" there is a watermark on every page, the registration for the program does obviously NOT include the registration for the printer and putting the same codes in there gives an error.

I tried to convert an 50 page ppt file and I also see about 1 cm free margin on the left and right sides of the PDF file which is not what the ppt file looked like.

Hello !
I am just wondering if I am doing something wrong here, but I am unable to properly activate (register) the program;
The main program tells me that it is already registered, but when I try to print something, the print module says that it is not registered and that a watermark will be added to the output pdf file.
I activated and installed it under administrator account, but the print module still is unregistered (I also rebooted the machine, but it didn't work)

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 64x sp2.
Thanks and a late Happy Thanksgiving !

I've tried some pdf creators before today's giveaway. primo, cuteftp, and also old version of simpo pdf creator.

And this time, I decide to buy this product. Because it's updated a lot and no more a "printer" only

Look forward to more excellent software from simpo!

Thanks for sharing!

While the download and activation seemed to work, I was able to right-click on Word documents and convert no problem.... but the Print to PDF function created "watermarked" docs. The software stated it was still in trial mode and needed to be registered, although I already did it. I tried again with the giveawayoftheday.com provided activation software and it still didnt fully register.

I thought this was supposed to be fully registered for personal use...

I had two problems with this software.
First although the right click option registered and worked fine, when I use the print option it always asks for registration. Even if I copy and paste the registration details over it won't accept. So I can only produce a watermarked version from the print option.
Secondly I converted a word 2003 document and both left and right margins are lost so the pdf doesn't look right.
