This takes too much time to be a quick tool.

But once I find I am happy with a particular setting, say, the default 100%, it would make sense to then adjust a batch before publishing.

But there's no batch operation here. too bad.

Free http://www.IrfanView.com/ has batch and auto adjust, but requires a bit of digging in the menus to find the settings.

So here's my suggestions:

1 - batch capability.

2 - tweak adjustment controls so we can adjust saturation, sharpness, contrast, color, for instance, if I want black and white results for a group of files ...

3 - make it w-a-y faster (on my 2400x2 MHz 4 GB XP it s-l-o-w).

I have downloaded this software when last post was number 87 (now this post has number 88.) and I didn't receive mail to my gmail account. So I waited 30min and then I wrote mail to office@engelmann.com and till today (29.4.) I didn't receive anything from them! Of course I have checked junk mail.

Thanks for those who corrected me on "spoilt" being an actual word! I suppose if humans say a made up word enough times, it will be added to the dictionary. Now I won't try to help anyone when they say "aksed", instead of "asked". I'm sure it's in some dictionary somewhere! lol

*back to grammar school I go!* ;)

#95, Janet Olson, #98, Howard, I'm glad that one of my suggestions helped you, my installation and registration worked fine and I had to take educated guesses as to what would help those encountering problems. I noticed that the "code" tag implementation has changed and now displays inline rather than in a scrolling window.

#99, KnoxStile, I'm glad that you ignore the voting (all of it), I always ignore it. Unfortunately, many people do look at the votes on the individual comments. It would be simple to fix the voting issues (not completely, but to a large degree) or just eliminate voting. It certainly is possible to mess with the moderators, although they could block it (eventually) more easily than the vote manipulation.

To all who do not get a Registration Screen for serial number entry,I have installed this on my laptop over the previous giveaway version, and because I only connect to the Internet so that the GOTD wrapper
can authenticate the software and then disconnect before the actual
installation "stopped on the first screen asking for the language ENGLISH",

Internet Explorer did start up and try to access the Engleman website but was unable to gain access and left a screen on the desktop which I had to Kill with Anvir Task Manager. The installation however continues and the Software just works using the previous reg entries regarding registration. To prove copied the setup file to desktop and installed using the same procedure but because of use no previous installation on this machine the registration screen came up and I registered using the same serial received for the previous version given away. Registers fine with old serial. Have not filled in any forms or received a serial from Engelman this time.

#104 Dan, tried installing on two older machines both AMD processors
and get the same SSE2 CPU error.

Will be keeping this only on my Laptop. Thank for a great piece of software.

The installation program opens for registration not the default browser, only IE. That's not nice if the PC has only 2GB of RAM and some programs are open. Then begins the fat and RAM-eating "Simply Good Pictures," and in addition the IE as a second browser. This slows down the PC much. Hey Angelman ;-) please correct this.

Downloaded and registered easily for me (using Windows XP)the program is a keeper for me as it's a quick and easy fix for many of my photos of outdoor scenes.

Thank you once again to our site and also to 'Simply Good Pictures' for today's freebie!

Oh... one wee thing, please ... when I'd closed the program, a few minutes later one of my security windows popped up saying the program was trying to connect to the internet ... just wondering why a program would want to connect when one isn't actually using it?

Had Version 1.0 given away on this site on 22nd January 2011. However, the previous version "LOST" it's registration and reverted to a trial version. I uninstalled it.

When attempting to install this current offering on my Windows XP PRO SP/3 computer I received a message stating that I do not have an SSE2 CPU and the software cannot be installed. This is the first software offered by GAOTD that I have been unable to install because of a "CPU Problem" and I have been a loyal follower since the beginning.

I would imagine that this software is not ready yet for "prime time."

Thanks to Engelmann Media GmbH + GOTD.

It allows you to control degree of optimisation - with or without auto adjusting colour.

It allows you to overwrite the filename or add a number suffix or add a text suffix of your own choice (default is "_optimized")

Go to Settings:
Remember to tick OFF the Auto-Update of the software, if the new updated version destroys your GOTD registration.

(Really disappointed the mod guy reject previous entry (for yesterday)) (Would seriously like the reason(s) - send email please)

@85.Mary i spent $100 for Webster's Third New International Dictionary (0-87779-201-1) years ago... on page 2203 is the word spoilt - inn fact it appears several thymes. Now eye agree that thee wording suffers - as eye said inn my "lost" entry yesterday!

So, moderator - how come you drop my 'work of art' and let all this vote rigging go on? i don't know what Fubar has in mind, but i found his/her comments interesting. (PS: as long as i'm looking your way: Why doesn't the "Geek'o'meter" NOT change? - YOU SEE, HERE'S THE THING: I WANT TO PARTICIPATE, but if i do, i'm bound to make suggestions and remarks, etc)

And, PEOPLE - where are all the paranoids... am i yet alone? (Will spare readers the rest of this line...)

RE: Today's offer - It can NOT be the world's best FULLY anything if it leaves red eyes... AND if it saves ONLY to LOSSY jpg - then that's a NO-NO folks.

(PS: the "$100" remark is insider's joke - don't worry about it...)

Now, since somebody is playing with 'scores' it don't matter how you thumbs me - in my heart i know i helped you...

Respectfully,
...

Haven't tried the software yet, but have to relate how quickly each of the two requisite Emails came from the publisher. The first confirmation one cane in less than five seconds, and the second one, to receive the actual key, took less than eight seconds after clicking the confirmation link. That is certainly responsive.

I'd previously installed a version from GOTD, and while it isn't my program of choice it still seems worthy of having in one's photoediting bag of tools.

It downloaded and installed fine in my Windows 7 64 bit and said it was activated. I got the email from them with a link to click. I clicked it and this is what I got: There were some errors whilst checking your email address.

-The confirm link you have clicked is invalid. You may have already confirmed your subscription.

Well, I didn't already confirm my subscription. Yes, the email came to my spam folder in Gmail, but I O.K.'d it to move to my inbox. The link still wouldn't work. Darn! I really wanted this as I've had it in the past and lost it due to reformatting.

Everytime there is a two step registration process the noobs come out of the woodwork - amazing. And complaints about system requirements - 1Gb of Ram??? What are you running Windows 98?

From download to registering - total time ~3 minutes.

@ #76 (Fubar) why do you care about vote manipulation - I never look at the voting to decide whether or not to try the software - just look at the comments - the people can't get registered and would vote no. Plus, I assume GOTD is shaking from your threats - what are you 10.

Re post 76, closing the program then deleting LXWIZA.lic worked for me. When I restarted the program the registration screen appeared.

On my computer WindowsXP SP3 that file was found at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Licenses

Re the program itself, I would recommend it especially for beginners,as it is user friendly and the results are decent enough. However I feel that experienced users will quickly see the programs limitations.

There are freeware alternatives that can optimize complete folders of photos rather then one at a time, which is handy...

I almost didn't install this software due to all of the negative comments, but am glad that I decided to try it anyway. I simply followed the readme file, and it installed without a hitch.

I used it to optimize a few photos that I had previously scanned in from some old faded 35mm negatives. Simply Good Pictures did a great job optimizing each of the pictures. It will save me a lot of time tweaking pictures as I will have a better photo to start my editing with.

Also, in regards to the complaint about having just filenames to reference when browsing, this is not true. All you have to do is select thumbnails from the dropdown views menu, which by the way uses the exact same icon as explorer! It also saved to the folder that I selected, not just to Documents as another person said. I almost passed on this useful program due to those 2 incorrect comments.

This is a great little quick and easy program that does exactly what it says it will, no more, no less. My only wish would be for additional file formats to save as. I highly recommend Simply Good Pictures.

I also posted a comment at Number 62. They never answered my request for a product key but sent my wife TWO EMAILS which were the same and she responded to one which said the Product Key would be sent. It still hasn't arrived. Wonder if it ever will. I wonder what technical support is like from this vendor.

XP SP3
v1.0.12.426
v1.0.11.121 <- older version was. Change log ???

on install, automatically opens *IE* (regardless of
default browser) & prompts for registration data
(name & email)

this version (& whatever has changed with it) looks
to work with the earlier license file (i tried that
first without even registering for a license anew)?

Earlier giveaways for (comments) reference:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/simply-goodpictures/ 06-2011

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/simply-good-pictures/ 01-2011

still registers (?) the file %SYS%\EMRegSys.dll &
adds a HDX4ImageProcessor.dll & vcomp100.dll into
/Program Files/Common Files/, ~8 MB total

because it uses an MSI installer, you get ~1 MB of
file related to that in /Windows/Installer/

otherwise the program installs into the directory
of your choice, ~5 MB

a bit slow to startup

for what it does, I felt it did an acceptable job

Downloaded and installed no problem. Received the activation key within 5 minutes. So far so good. All downhill from now on. Kept crashing even when loading jpegs. processed 1 photo successfully (reasonable result) out of 10 different photo attempts. (Windows 7, 64 bit). As I have stated previously this is 2012. Don't put up with inferior goods. Software should now be flawless. Uninstalled!!!

The first email I got directly but the second went into my Junk folder. I left the serial number screen open so it was easy to fill in the code and activate. As one step, it is handy but I get similar results in IrfanView or even in Photoviewer in Windows XP/SP3. Granted that involves multiple settings but I can fix them when viewing the album for the first time while rotating etc.

I think it has some value for doing a quick and dirty fix on many pictures. Thanks for offering it.

I installed this software the last time it was offered on GOTD but lost it due to hard drive format, so I'm happy to see it again. It's a simple little program that 'comes in handy' when you just need a pic to be pepped up.

This time I order 2 copies, one for me and one for netbook I'm setting up for a friend: the latter I used a GMail addy for and that went into spam, but my own copy using a Tiscali addy and Thunderbird was received in my Inbox no prob.

Apart from finding Gmail's spam folder !! the whole thing was trouble-free.

I installed this last time and was very impressed. It is much better than Irfanview or Photoscape whatever previous posts might say. I am a big fan of Irfanview and the AltaLux plugin that comes with that is quite good but no match for Simply Good.. which I had set as an External editor to Irfanview for some time. Then Engelmann offered their Photomizer 8bf plugin for a few days at a hugely reduced price (I think it was €19.99 instead of €129.99). It was well worth reading through all those emails they had sent to be able to snap that one up. Now I have Engelmann's Photomizer as an 8bf filter in Irfanview and enjoy the best of both worlds.

downloaded and installed fine (Windows 7 64bit); a little trouble with my email address being accepted so I gave another one and the 2 emails required for registration came very quickly (did go to junk folder); ran around 4 pics through the program and the new jpg's were really nice and in such a small amount of time (and effort); great program; agree it should save to the pictures file rather than documents - that should be a fairly easy program change; thanks for a handy little program

I installed it and registered it just fine. It works well, with a minimum of fuss. Englemann Media also makes Photomizer and Photomizer Pro versions, which take care of pretty much every request in the request list. This version offers a major discount on their upgrade products when it connects with their website on its first run (66%). So anyone who likes what it generally does, can buy an upgrade for a little money.

I downloaded this version to see if I wanted to recommend it to my friends both on Facebook and email. I have friends at all levels of shooting and photography. I have been a Pro myself, and teach others. I own and use the Photomizer Pro version for my images, that need minor tweaks, such as a Renaissance Festival, a group at a lake, etc. For my more serious work. I use full featured editors.

I find that I like Photomizer Pro better than I do OnOne's PhotoTune 3. It is more comfortable for my work. PhotoTune 3 is far more expensive, so Photomizer Pro is a heck of a bargain, IMO.

While this might be a good program, I won't be testing it, but did want to give the publisher some feedback. "spoilt" is not a word. It is spelled "spoiled".

"Use the latest optimization algorithms and don’t let your marvellous memories be spoilt by a poor photo quality!"

When improper spelling is used in the description, which is your MARKETING, and the face of your company, it puts up a red flag to the consumer. It only takes a moment to proof read your work, and edit your mistakes for better results.

Downloaded and installed with no problems on Win7 64. No problems with registration. If you are concerned about getting a lot of email from this or any offer use a junk email address. Yahoo and AOL are easy to set up. I tested this software on quite a few pictures and it seemed like most of the time it just adjusted the red balance.

Hi, All Comments really appriciated (as usual:), When it comes to "Picture Software" - best advice to try for yourself? You never know, there could be only one useful feature worth keeping some Programs...

This one was easy to install, didn't have to switch off any Firewalls (Zone Alarm - accept), worked without any problems.
Registration - hotmail (junk box) - both relevant e-mails instant.

It really is "One Man Band", lol - Brings dull pictures to life, even on deaufalt setting (mine preferred, as decent base for working on further elsewhere if needed). Saves as jpgs (only), as good as original bmps, but much smaller in size, always winner with me!

Works similar to Corel PSPs' - "Enhance Photo" option? (not the same, similar), or Programs that had "white-wash" effect as "means" of instant optimization of dark pictures in earlier days..
But naturally - Simply Good Pictures works both ways, what's overexposed can be toned down.

Simplicity cannot be overstated, instant results either, so no brainer, just very useful Tool. Keeper!:)

Thanks GAOTD and Simply Good Pictures (Engelmann, shame to have this almost notorious "negative fame" thought flooding folks with e-mails.. hmm)

PS.Little "mini Photoshop" for Those interested in free? - Try PhoXo for more effects (pay attention to what not to accept when installing!)

I don't get all the negativity. the 2 step registration isn't that big of deal and it worked great. as for the software, have used it since the last giveaway and love it for what it does. I have the latest photoshop but find this program very handy to just touch up a pic for posting on facebook, or for sending to family and friends. When you take hundreds of pics each month, it's a bit overwhelming to take them into photoshop and work on them for general use. Sure, production pics requires it, but facebook pics don't, so grab this software while you can.. a huge timesaver!

I eventually got it accept an email address and got a reply in 3 minutes BUT when I clicked on it, it said there was no registration code. Now it will not let me register "again", but it will not start up either, as it has not got a registration code.

Sorry, this is too convoluted for too basic software and it is being uninstalled, untested and you might have lost another sale of your upgraded product Photomizer 2.0. I am very busy today and can't spend more time trying to sort out the registration problem.

I will stick with the free IrfanView and their "SHIFT + U" keystroke to automatically optimize pictures, it usually works pretty well.

#60, uthea, I see that our psychopathic vote manipulator is at work again on your comment and my comment #45. I have repeatedly warned GOTD that I can and will deal with the vote manipulation. What the vote manipulator doesn't understand is that GOTD is their entire life, but it's very, very low priority to me. I'm hereby warning the moderators that if they keep allowing these personal attacks, I can make their lives miserable.

#66, Glen3, SGP will perform differently on different pictures, a single comparison has no meaning. Personally, I would never "batch-optimize" pictures. I use a variety of tools on bad pictures and select the best result.

For those who say that they skipped the initial registration and now can't register SGP: In the first place, if you had set a restore point prior to installing like I've always recommended, you could had uninstalled, done a System Restore, and then reinstalled. If you didn't set a Restore Point, then there are a couple of things that you can try to unregister SGP and set it to first-run. First, I would try deleting a couple of registry keys. If you don't know how to use the Registry Editor, here's a file that you can copy and paste into Notepad and save as "Unregister SGP.reg" (no .txt when set to display extensions), then just click on it. The Code tag generally adds an extra linefeed after each line, which you can delete if desired. You can also delete the comments.

At first, the install froze everything. You have to extract all the files first. Paused my anti virus for 10 minutes. The install went well if not questionable at times. Activation code ended up in the spam file, no biggy. I like it, it does well. Not bad at all for a digital quicky.

Re 42, 55 and 65. I still do not know where I put in the registration number that I received. There is no extra tab at the bottom of the screen per 65. The "About" screen under the ? menu simply says that it's copyright with no mention of it being registered or how to register. Yet the program seems to be working OK - or will it stop tomorrow?

Very simple and quick program. Has a slider button for optimization percentage from 0 to 200%, and a side by side comparison with the original and optimized version. No fiddling around with too many options or having to learn a new complicated program just to make a picture look better. Perfect for people who don't want a headache.

Thank you!

I got the serial number in the second email, but when I run the program, I don't get the registration screen.

So like #42 David Murphy, #52 Allin and #55 Ken, I have no way of filling in the serial number I received.

Hello everyone,

#6-PeterPeter-I've never been "spammed" by Engelmann Media anyway, you can always "unsubscribe" if you don`t want to receive their offers,
#9-Ostov & #41-Ray-The reason for that message is because you clicked the registration link twice or more...the confirmation will be in your email,
#12-Trucker-It's a recommendation! You DON'T have to disable and it will still go through. I received it in my inbox, you probably got it in your junk folder cause it's your first time dealing with them? If not, your mail priorities are set on high.
#40-MauriceE.-If the program opens without asking you for the serial number, then it registered. If in doubt, uninstall & reinstall.

To those who have been waiting hours for serial number, you have to check the confirmation first and then you're sent the serial number. I received both in less than a minute.

As for the software itself, I tried it and wasn't impressed. Maybe my picture was good enough and didn't need optimization but anyway, I don't think I'll be using this software. To each his/her own!

Have a great day everyone :-)

For all of you who brought in Win-8 discussion, get real, Win-8 is nothing more than Win-7 in new jacket, all of the internals are the same, no improvements in performance or memory usage or speed.
I dissected it and ran performance tests, no improvements noticed.

I received the email to confirm right away and now I've been waiting an hour for the registration "key". I guess it may take a while.
