I downloaded Scanitto and used it for my old Epson Perfection 1640 scanner in Win7. It worked (while the software that came with the scanner didn't). But then I discovered that the Acquire feature of ACDSee image manager works too, and better. None of them handles the document feeder, though.

I have a Canon CanoScan Lide 30 Scanner which my Win 7 64 bit Dell refuses to acknowledge. I had some hope that Scanitto Pro would work but sadly No! I'll have to crank up my old Win 95 desktop again!

I've been a fan of NICO CUPPEN Software and his freeware Photocopier program. It had good TWAIN support and printed from my HP all-in-one inkjet to a B/W laser printer. Simple with NO frills except lighter or darker print.

While I suspect this softeware made my dsl become disconnected, I was able to get it reconnected. We'll see how it goes after another file scan.

I like the extra features SCANITO has and will keep it around. Finally, unlike many recent offerings, this vendor has a reasonable purchase price... however, I was hoping for a discount.... ok, i agree, i've been spoiled by GTOD and the program selection they have been able to line up..
Good work again. Thanks GTOD and VENDORS !!

Revived an HP Photosmart all-in-one that wouldn't scan anymore. HP software quit working, and "updated" HP software wouldn't work at all.

Thanks.

As many here installed ok on a winXP-pro 3 with no problems, but at the moment of activated it, it did not update the help register option
so it shows still the register option and since we did not receive the activation key ..will it become a DEmo program? or its just a bug that the developer never tought about it.

in any case that shows the quality of the product .. and for that money they ask . . . they must be dreaming.

anyway I uninstalled since it is a demo as it is.

If any of the developers read this ... correct your image before its too late, a bad reputation is not easy to erase.

I've tried multiple times to register the program without any success. I've run the activate program without the program running and with the program running. I've disabled my anti virus program. I've run the activate program both as an administrator and not as an administrator. Nothing is working. Thoughts?

Should add that I'm getting "Canvas does not allow drawing" message on a Windows XP system using a Canon MX7600 Printer/Scanner. Google of error message suggest a lack of some kind of resources (memory ? handles ?) problem. Don't have this problem with any other app.

For those that couldn't get activation to work and got the following message: Unable to write to C:\ProgramData\MastersITC\ScannitPro\settings.ini
I found that after activation, even though it didn't seem to work, if I ran the program as Administrator it worked and the above message went away and I was activated. So, I changed to Run as Administrator in properties and now it works every time.
Good luck.

I too had problems with my Toshiba laptop communicating with my HP All-in-One printer/scannner/fax. It would not scan. However, when I opened the printers/devices at the start menu, I was able to click on my printer name and select SCAN from there & it works!

Hello, I just installed this software and, after activating, I started it up and received this message “Can’t allocate the DIB handle.” with the big red “X” symbol and the only option to click is “OK”. It would be wonderful if the company behind this SW would let me know what exactly this error means, also if anyone else knows what it means I will gladly listen to your information on this subject as well. Obligatory system information! XD Win. 7 Pro. X64. Thank you to anyone who can help me find out what this error means.

Installed fine on Win 7- 64

I activated the software... then, checked under "help"
and the link for "Activate" is still there.

I have no way of knowing if the software is actually
activated.

I love it. I have a Canon all in one and the software
immediately recognized the scanner. I didn't have to set
or change anything.

It's a whole lot nicer software than what comes with
the Canon.

Scooter (#65¨): Not exactly freeware, but Imaging is included in Microsoft Office, at least from 2003 version (and maybe also in 2000 and/or 2002, also called Microsoft XP). It imports images (only in tif nad tiff formats) and performs OCR in various languages that must be specfied. It can also import images form the scanner. It allows multipage tif files and you can add multiple files through File->Insert file. If you have it installed, Imaging should be in Start-> Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Tools -> Microsoft Office Document Imaging. If you have not installed it, you could add it by introducing the Office CD (Option: Add/Modify).

Your images on HD can be OCR'ed by IrfanView with "Kadmos OCR Plugin".
Kadmos works fine, but is of very basic functionality.

My favorite OCR-Program is FineReader from Abbyy. Sometimes the people from Abbyy offer an older version for free. Look out!

Hamrick's Vuescan is probably the most well known of scanning applications, but Scannito Pro has also been around for some time and is a recognized name. Although I have not used Scannito Pro, if you have a scanner or are thinking about getting one, I would recommend installing this today, and then you will have another useful option at your fingertips. I will be doing the same. You can't beat the price.

For those who have mentioned just using whatever application comes with their scanner, keep in mind that those utilities are usually very basic and are seldom updated. On the other hand, applications such as this are well-supported and constantly improved to deal with the hardware problems and limitations your scanner manufacturer no longer cares about because they already have your money.

Just like your computer, a scanner is only as good as the software that can make the most out of its capabilities.

I have an HP scanjet G2710, the HP software worked well with Vista 32 bit, but when upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit, had several problems scanning. Installed this software, activated and tried it. Worked first time. Very good, fast preview. Scanned an A4 colour picture, at 300 dpi, all fine, seems to work well with Windows 7, 32 bit. Thanks to the suppliers for this useful program.

Steve @ #7 - Errata/Addenda

Ruler scale units can be set under the Settings - General Menu (Not that hard to find after all!). It would be nice to be able to set the ruler via right click context menu. The milimetres/inches options seem limited.

Whilst rotate in the browser window seems to rotate the displayed thumbnails only, I have now noticed that there are more useful rotate buttons in the OCR window (Unfortunately, they look too much like Undo & Redo.). Additionally, it only seems possible to rotate one image at a time, in 90 degree increments. It ought to be possible to easily select all/multiple scans for the same treatment and to be able to reflect/rotate by 180 degrees too.

Given the program's strenths in recognising layouts from scans, are there possibilities for its development in being able to e.g scan paper-based, tick box/multi-choice questionnaires; scanning printed tables to spreadsheet/database files; scanning one or more images from single or mutiple sheets to a pre-planned (or previously scanned) layout or even just scanning and saving a layout for use in a Word Processor or DTP application (Recognising margins, columns, spacings, typeface etc) without worrying about the actual text/images scanned?

Installed on Win 7 64Bit with wireless Lexmark Interpret All in one.. When I run Scannitto Pro, I get a dialog box saying "Can't allocate the DIB Handle" , hit ok on that and the program loads. I did a test color scan and that worked.. so I guess it works.. Very simple and nice addition.

I too had the problem with activation on vista 32 bit. I solved the problem by installing it NOT as administrator, but just the regular way. Then, after closing the program and running the "activate" also NOT as administrator, I opened the program itself AS administrator. All of a sudden it was activated! Hope it works for everyone else who has been having the same problem!

ScanittoPro
Your website does not show that it can be saved in RTF format, on the other hand the link to your manual, kindly supplied by Suze #66, says that it can on page 14. Please clarify the situation as to whether it can be saved in a format where the text is editable or not.

Scanitto Pro doesn't include any drivers, nor does it bring up the scanning interface for your scanner drivers -- IOW it's not like scanning an image from within your image editing app. It does provide it's own interface or GUI which you can use to scan & optionally perform OCR to text. Scanning controls are minimal, & OCR was overall poor, especially since you can only save to text, losing any document layout. Recorded installation wasn't harmful, but poor with 24 files saved to the root of the system drive, e.g. C:\eula.1028.txt . A copy of a Microsoft C++ runtime setup is stored in the program folder, & installed. The "Scanitto Pro" program files holds 14 files & ~15 MB -- the "Masters ITC" folder, added under All Users App/Application Data holds 8 files, 2 folders, ~15 MB. Besides the many entries for the C++ runtime install, Scanitto Pro itself adds an uninstall key + 1 key for the app itself. While Scanitto Pro may work in a pinch, IMHO you're much better off going with one of the major players in OCR, &/or hunting down, watching for a free offer for ABBYY

#3: "My 32 bit Vista-compatible scanner no longer works since I moved to Windows 7 64 bits, even with a supposedly updated driver. Could this possibly replace the driver"

No. Check out VueScan [hamrick.com]

Run as admin or change permissions for that folder [right-click -> properties -> security]

#31 - Thanks for your mention of Vuescan. Had never heard of it, sounds promising. If their claims of being superior to Silverfast hold true I'll be switching. $40 seems a more than fair price (free upgrade from Standard to Pro edition for Silverfast users) compared to what Silverfast is asking for an upgrade.

GREAT Program. tested it on one desktop with a Canon MP495 wireless as well as an ancient Visioneer 4800 attached to another desktop. Both worked great on XP - SP3. It recognized both the wireless and the attached on the 2nd desktop. Much simpler than the program that came with the Visioneer. No problem activating (I unchecked "Start Scanittopro" during install - ran activate, then ran program).

Installing this on Win7 x64, I can get the program to show it "Licensed" (to Giveawayoftheday) but not to be "Activated" - even though I have tried multiple times (with the program open and/or closed, and even permitted the process to write to the relevant file on my C drive which it complained that it couldn't write to!).
I get no Username or Key to be entered in the 'Activation page' (either by me or by the Activate process) despite taking all the required actions.

This is admittedly OT since it concerns drivers for a specific range of scanners, but it may be of interest:
for information of Cam Stone (#41) and others, the Canon scanner drivers can often be found on their singapore site
I had difficulties getting the win 7 and vista drivers, but the link I gave above at #39 works for win7 (and vista) 64 bit.
The instructions there work also for win 7 32 bit but you first need the driver provided in the link below before following those instructions:
http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/0900312701.html
This required quite a bit of research so I hope it's helpful to others.

For the information of the developers scanitto pro works fine on my systems (XP 32 bit, win7 64 bit, win7 32 bit) except for the registration problem in my Vista 64 bit. Thanks again :-)

Downloaded, installed, and activated with no problems. I am doing some work for my son and his web site that has a lot of pictures. One of the areas that was taking time, was the scanning and enhancement part. This software recognized my 3 in 1 (scanner, copier and printer). It cut out several steps that the other SW used in the scanning process which took up alot of time. Now I can preview, then scan and then move on to the enhancement part. Still alot to learn, but at this time, thank you GAOTD and Master ITC for this product. If this will help, it is installed on an INTEL Quad Core 9400, Win XP Pro, SP3. Have a nice day all. :)

Totally useless software. It does not recognize a printer or scanner unless the driver for it is already installed on the computer. If I am going to install the software that came with the printer, then I might as well use that software, which in most cases, is more full-featured, and gives me much better, finer control of the scanning process. From other comments here, I was under the impression that it would be able to recognize and work with scanners that did not have drivers installed, but that is not the case. If your computer can not already use the scanner, then this software is not going to help. And if your computer can use the scanner, this software does nothing special that would justify adding to the clutter on your hard disk.

I noticed that some commented about not having drivers for Win7/64, I had the same problem but as a Linux user I was able to find a solution. I bought VueScan and now I am able to use my old Canon D660U with a CURRENT Windows. I comes with a similar interface as Scanniito, so you probably do not need todays program.

My new computer running Windows 7 64 bit doesn't recognize my ancient Agfa Snapscan 1212 scanner, so I was really hoping Scanitto Pro would be able to turn the trick. No, it doesn't seem to be able to find my scanner, either. It's not impossible. Vuescan can do it, but I don't want to pay $40 for software to run a Stone Age scanner. So whatever else Scanitto Pro can do, this is one place it falls down.

Seems to work well, somewhat intuitive, but all features work well after I figured out how to do a scan to OCR. Very quick to set up the scan. I would rate this as excellent.

Installed, activated, and ran without any problems. Unfortunately (for me), it's very basic and lacks features I have come to rely on such as skew and color correction, rotation preview, etc. which are all in my OEM scanner software. Nice start and fine for basic work, but what does it offer over what generally comes with scanners?

I downloaded, installed, activated, set up and tested within about 10 minutes, using my old HP V40 multifunction printer/scanner/fax/ copier and Win 7 Starter on a netbook. The program has a refreshingly-simple interface, and scanned one test page perfectly at B&W 300 dpi. The resulting pdf image opened in Adobe Reader 10 without a problem. Peculiarities: Program restart was needed to find my scanner after I plugged in the usb cable. Because of the resizing issue, it was necessary to request a scan via the file menu button, instead of whatever other button might have been available but not visible.
