I allowed access to the internet for their screensaver manager ONCe and then blocked it. My logs are filling up with it attempting to access the internet about once every minute.

This overhead is unacceptable and so I've uninstalled their screensaver manager. I've got a packet sniffer installed, but I've not bother checking it to see what exactly is being sent to them, or indeed, comming back onto my system.

This is at least the second time I've noticed that when you click on the "View all comments" link, all you get is the same three first remarks, not the 80 others referred to in the headline. Isn't there a way for me to access those others to see if someone came up with an answer to the question I asked yesterday when that particular download was current?

#4, 23, 33. Get a clue will ya. I've read the comments left by users and have in most cases taken the advice in making up my mind to either use or not use the program. But you guys are too much. Free! That means no enumeration. Without cost. Zip.
Based on this rather easy observation I am amazed at your lack of idealism. What in the name of Christmas is wrong with you? You have a chance to say something interesting. Maybe insightful. Damn I'd even go for comical bashing if something is absurd. I mean this at least has some value for those that peruse this board but the negativity, bad spelling, and expletives best left in a junior high bathroom leaves the reader with the sure knowledge that you are either incapable of speaking properly or you are just, (as seems the case here), lacking the ability to speak without using some form of derogative, demeaning language that you think has shock value. It doesn't and you should know better.
Regardless of what is offered it is free. It gives us a chance to use the product without cost until we either buy it or hope no computer crashes are imminent.
Sorry if I seem harsh or a know it all. I have no such delusions of being overly intelligent but the harsh part is perhaps closer to the mark than would be my trying to say I was being nice.
Oh I almost forgot. #40, Thanks for the political advise but no thanks. Screensaver. Christmas. You know, the subject at hand. What the heck are you trying to accomplish? The election is getting closer so you don't have to panic now. You'll have plenty of time to kiss Bush and the Republican parties backside at election time. In the meantime take it easy. You'll pull something or worst case scenario you may run out of steam before the election comes around.
OK I have probably stepped on enough toes at this point. I apologize to the rest of you as my comments were made after reading these comments for a couple of months and slowly got to the point where reading the above persons comments I felt I just had to say something. I'm sure those people I made comment about will have some witty retort but that comes with the territory I suppose.
Merry Christmas and a Happy Honnukkah

aFTER UNINSTALL, "manager" offered me this screensaver again, so I tried and that one worked beautifully even though it is only the free trial!? Can anyone tell me why that unregistered version runs fine now on my 1.6 Gig AMD Athlon xp+ running xp pro sp2 with 512 MB and 64 MB video card? The registered version just went to a white blank screen and locked up.

Same problem as #57, plus it locks up the computer and have to reboot. I COULD NOT COME UP WITH ANY OTHER SOLUTION THAN TO UNINSTALL, BUT I WOULD ALSO BE INTERESTED IN ANY THOUGHTS ON WHY IT IS AND HOW TO FIX.

Thank you for the nice Christmas gift. I'm sorry I didn't get you anything, but I did help spread the word. I visit GAOTD almost every day. I don't always need or like what's offered, so I don't download. It's that easy. What's offered is free, so I'm not going to complain. I appreciate the gesture from GAOTD and the companies who offer their products. I think we all have stuff on our computers others might consider unnecessary. If some of us want to have entertaining screensavers, why should it matter to anyone else? I think all of us who visit this site are probably computer literate enough to know where the power button is, as well as when and how to use it. I, for one, certainly enjoyed the wonder in my grandkids' eyes when they came over and saw it playing. They watched for a long time and didn't ask to play one computer game. That, in itself, was a wonderful Christmas gift! Merry Christmas to all. I hope Santa brings all the complainers something to improve their attitude Ü ....

Well... this program decided to remove several images that I'd been using for my desktop backgrounds. So, I was left with a blue screen as my desktop picture. And then... The actual screensaver was not simply a new screensaver... but a "screensaver maganager". And the end result was me having to (even after removing the program) search far, and wide for the beautiful pictures that I had already searched far and wide to get.!!!!! Perhaps I didn't wait long enough for it to load....but I never saw the actual screen saver. A waste of time, but thanks anyway!

Dear Buffet
Not only will you get a bag of coal but also a bar of lye soap to wash out your mouth for posting bad words on Giveaway Of The Day website. Try to be good this year, maybe that new computer will come next year.
Sincerly, Santa Clause

By the way this screen saver is really nice, I got it for Mrs Clause computer. I know she doesn't need yet another screen saver however she will love this one and perhaps I will get another plate full of cookies, like the screen saver that I really don't need. To be honest we sometimes get things we don't need just to enjoy and there is nothing wrong with that. So a Santa Clause thumbs up to Giveaway Of The Day. Keep up the good work.

Seems like a good screensaver, first screensaver I've really installed, but it bugged me how when I wanted to preview it said loading. Also, didn't like the idea of having extra programs on my computer for a screen saver. I'd rather do without the Manager and just select my screensaver using what Windows uses.

From #25 again--Thanks again GAOTD and Happy Holidays. To #37---when I said I tried all the usual methods, I meant it--I know how to read the read me file, activate first then stet-up--It didn't work for me. So I uninstalled and tried again. No.'s 59 and 65, thanks for the input.Upon reinstall, the screensaver worked very well.. BTW, we a re not all meat and potato people, some of us like "Pretties". I'm pretty much housebound and I like getting out my mind in a healthy way occasionally. If you don't like something just because you don't like it, don't use it, otherwise let the rest of us alone who do like some crudities and shrimp cocktail as a treat. My main reason fore checking the comments is to see if there is a problem with the software, not that someone wants to p+ss and moan with no helpful comments.

I love GAOTD but do not download aps I haven't a need for. Personally, I need and like a good screensaver and was hoping for a nice holiday themed meditation device. And yes, I can meditate in other ways also--I'm disabled and have learned to meditate in self defense in order not to rely on pharmaceuticals--legal or otherwise. PS, I've been non-legally substance free for 30+ years and do not miss it. I do miss the occasional trip that a good screen saver or slide show trip allows.

Thnks again.
Happy Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa, etc

Look on the bright side, over at Game Giveaway of the day they had a solid month of match-3s. Here, screensavers are only given on Sunday. It would be one thing if they gave us a month of screensavers, but complaining about them on Sunday is just stupid. You know that it's only once a week, on the same day every time, so why do you bother? It's a screensaver, but at least it's a good one.

Now, if it was a bad screensaver, I'd be complaining about it, too - but for a different reason.

All I got was a white screen at first then you could see parts and bits of the tree and other things on the screen but all in all, didn't care for it. Thanks anyway GAOTD. Be back tomorrow!

This is a nice screensaver, and for those that are adimate to say how horrid, terrible useless screensavers are, well have some pride in creative energies such as this screensaver, sheesh. I for one only view the screensaver(s) then ALWAY set screensaver mode to “BLANK” after 20 minutes, this is second to (YES) turning off the monitor, it not only saves the phosphors (picture-elements) pixels on screen it saves wear and tear of the whole system constantly working as the screensaver runs. Some of the better screen savers CACHE into memory to avoid hard drive and constant system wear. However I have had my Compaq 6000 series Presario on 24/7 since NOV 2003 (minus downtime) and will continue to leave it on 24/7 as i feel by hypothesis that it’s easier on my system. Happy Holidays and remember as well if you right click your desktop and go into Display Properties Advanced tab set your refresh rate to 70 or even 110 or higher if your monitor supports it, this will not only save your eyes if your at the PC a long time it will also enhance your computing pleasure. Enjoy~<(___)~

I wasn't going to download this one since in the past, I've never found an Astro Gemini screensaver that I've kept. They've either crashed my PC or wouldn't run properly or whathaveyou. But people seemed to be liking this one a little more, so I gave it a shot. Very herky jerky, even with my 2.79ghz pc with 2gb ram, but all I did to fix that was change it to a lower screen resolution instead using the default "use desktop settings", and while it's a smidge more pixelly, it's not all that noticeable, and it runs very smoothly now. I'll hang onto it through the holidays, I think. :)

Thanks Astro Gemini and GAOTD! I dropped my wife and children off at Church this morning and pretending to have forgotten something at home I came back and installed the Program. Installed smoothly and configuring was a breeze. I have a HDMI connection from the desktop to our 42 inch Plasma and this piece of Art looks gorgeous. Arriving home from church the look of pure joy on the faces of my children when they noticed it playing and heard the Music was priceless. They were awestruck and I'm grateful for this give away even in the face of the bah humbug crowd who seem to relish sharing their ill will and misery on this site. Well I'm not going to let them spoil our holiday. Happy Holidays to All and May Peace be with you.

Activate it first, then run the set up. You don't get a serial number or box. The download page should change to a page that says it was activated.

Actually I have installed all previous Astro Gemini Screen savers on my son's Vista 32 bit and they worked fine - however this time I thought I would give my Personal Computer a Xmas face lift - however it seems as though the Astro Gemini manager doesn't like interacting with Vista X64 as well as it does with 32 bit.

"Astro Gemini" doesn't show up in the Screen Saver control panel as it does under the 32 bit version of Vista - so as far as I can see there is no way to select the screen saver as your default - so looks like I will still be running Seti@Home and the other BOINC powered savers...

So 64 bit users may wish to reconsider before downloading today's give away.

But otherwise no complaints here - thanks GAOTD

I to was hoping for a christmas themed screensaver that wasn't filled whith spyware or just a trial version - so I had high hopes for todays offering. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work properly on XPpro sp2. I have all the requirements listed, and the music works but the screen shots will not work properly. I get shilouette images in white, navy, grey and light purple. Some of the animation is visable like the snowman and the snowflakes but it is all like looking through negatives rather than the developed pictures. Also the clock does not display. I am so disappointed! :( Anybody else having this problem or know how I can fix it?

Early monitors were prone to being etched by prolonged exposure to static text and pictures. Screensavers were developed to prevent this. Thus, a new, computerized form of art evolved which--perhaps, unfortunately--retains the "screensaver" name.

Screensavers should be enjoyed like art, not stared at constantly. They enhance a mood as they run in the background, hopefully giving some measure of joy or pleasantness to our otherwise hectic lives.

So, brighten your holidays with a screensaver. Today, you have the opportunity to get one for free. If you don't want it, don't get it. Nobody's trying to force you to be happy! :)

Note: It'll run smoother if you lower the screen resolution to something like 800x600. And, you'll hardly notice the difference in graphic detail.

Astro Gemini has improved its screensaver manager, perhaps in response to our comments. It's worth checking out since they offer lots of suggestions and help in it now. You can uninstall it separately if you decide you don't want it. Block outgoing internet access if you don't want to risk the possibility of being directed to their website. I don't think they intend any harm, anyway. :)

I like Astro Gemini screensavers but I don't care for the screensaver manager they install. For anyone interested in a screensaver manager I would suggest you try Screensaver Commander. This is a free program that will not only handle Astro Gemini screensavers but also every screensaver you have on your computer. You can set it to turn on your screensavers in any order you wish or you can have them turn on randomly. Best of all is after installation this program will only use 249 KB of you hard drive space. I'm sorry I don't know how to post a useable link but you can learn more about this screensaver manager and download it at bdvnotepad.com./sscom_en.htm. Thank you so much GAOTD for another great offering. Thank you to the publisher Astro Gemini Software.

#4 - ...yada yada yada...yeah, yeah, yeah - we all know we don't 'need' a screensaver for our monitors; we just like them...at least *I* do, anyway

#12 - these screensavers are of good quality, and are actually nice to look at, and (to a certain degree) to listen to. The only one they have offered (since I have been visiting this website) that I didn't keep was the Mars one.

#15 - me too.

#23 - I don't intend this to sound nasty or (bad) attitudal, but there are plenty of us who do enjoy screensavers, and appreciate GOTD for giving them to us. As with all the other software they give us, everyone is free to take it, or leave it.

Thank you very much GGAOTD. team. Very, very, nice screen saver despite what the usual nonsince responses we get everytime a screen saver gets offered here.
These clowns have the balls to bitch & complain when something is offered for FREE. That said, should tell you a little something about the individuals that complain about anything offered for free.
Little people, little minds, it takes all kinds.
Thanks again for another great screen saver. I give this screen saver a 9 out of 10. Two thumbs up.

Not a bad looking screensaver. People who are complaining about free software will complain about anything. I know, I can be that way depending on my mood. Today, I am in a good mood so I am not complaining. :)

Anywho, not a bad looking screensaver, a 16:10 mode would be nice in future revisions.

What is really sad, is that you leave a comment for a product, completely rated "G", and it never gets approved. Why is this?

What's the sense in leaving a "User Comment" if you are not going to allow other users to read what I was thinking when I came across this deal?

This is a pleasant Christmas or holiday screensaver (there are no religious symbols in it). Falling snow, glistening snow on the ground, shadows, animated lights, prancing reindeer, animated snowman, reflective ice, etc. All external views, no Santa. DirectX 9 is clearly being put to use in the animations; I'm always glad to see decent DirectX 9 screensavers. A couple of somewhat minor issues: anti-aliasing could be better, and I wasn't able to override it, and there are some audio glitches on my system. I posted some screenshots on BladedThoth's forum:
http://forum.bladedthoth.com/viewtopic.php?p=255#255

To those experiencing "jerkiness"--either your PC has weak CPU/GPU, or your video drivers need updating. You can always decrease the effects and/or the resolution, as some have mentioned. Sporadic "jerkiness" may be due to background processes.

#11, Kevin, I like the functionality of Astro Gemini's new version 2 screensaver manager better than their earlier versions, but it's actually worse in terms of no longer giving you the option not to use it. These third-party managers don't "take over" the Windows manager, they merely set themselves to be the default screensaver. What's different with this version is the lack of an option not to do so, so if you use it and don't want it to always run, you'll have to go into the Windows manager after you close this one and change your screensaver back. Also, it no longer appears to have an option to not cycle. In other respects, it's better, listing not only all of the Astro Gemini screensavers, but all of your other ones, with images, and letting you change their settings and select them as part of the cycling group. You still have to use the Windows manager for power management. I was surprised that it said that I have 50 screensavers; I didn't realize I had that many.

It registered and installed perfectly with Vista. I like the idea of the screensaver manager - easy to see all of the screensavers I currently have installed and I can choose to rotate them or not.

For all of you sarcastic commenters - GOTD is giving this out for free. If you don't like it, don't download it, but don't feel that you must make some sarcastic or snide comment about the program. The comments don't serve any purpose other than to expose readers to negativity. If you can't comment on the workings of the program, don't comment at all. Your insults don't help those that really want to know if the program is useful or problematic. Be happy that there is a place like GOTD to give us free programs daily.

I have to confess that I am not a big screensaver fan -- but this one is absolutely magical. Just the thing to get you to slow down and ponder the serenity of the season.

And for the Scrooges who constantly seem to find fault with every GAOTD offering: Bah Humbug to you!

Thank you to both GAOTD and Astro Gemini for all your contributions to my hard drive. And thanks to all the regular contributors to the comments section. You teach me something new every day.

Merry Christmas everyone!
