Great program. The first one that I see that works with Opera, as I use Opera as my default browser.

Ive tried it a few times now and it downloads everything so far & really fast, although the last point there would depend on the speed of yuor connection mine is 50mb so they are downloaded faster than i can watch them.
Ive been looking for something like this for a good while and so far im impressed but these things cant be taken lightly and it will take time and use to figure out if it has any bugs or negative effects.

First impressions so far are gleeful & positive for now.

Dont like the idea of it poking around in sys32 though..

I tried several times to access the website via the link in the email but the site wasn't up so I couldn't download and install this program.
There is a 12 hour time difference from where I am and the site is so during the time I tried to access the site and it was late at night here. When I got up in the morning, I had no time to access the net because I had to work. So, I missed this one. Today, I found the site was finally back up and downloaded todays offer. Please, if possible, could you folks see if yesterday's maker would let you offer that program again? I don't download and use everything from GAOD but I have been looking for this kind of program. The last similar program didn't work on my system......I think it was from Aisoft. I hope that this will be available again for those who wanted to use it.

Thanks for your hard work and thanks to the software makers who cooperate with you.

Yours,
Marebearinjapan

I'd only just remembered to install this with 29 minutes left. It installs and such but when I choose "Buy Now" install of "Finish" appearing after the "Continue" click, it asked for an activation code. I'm running Windows XP, and don't expect help with this at this late time, but am wondering why this error occurred.

1. This program apparently doesn't work for users that don't have administrative power.

2. This program doesn't work with the site I'm interested in - www.fromsport.com and their live streaming video. Maybe that is the difference between this version of the program and the 'Ultimate' version, but the website certainly isn't very helpful in determining that.

I'm not going to delete the program (yet) but I have little use for it. Another program (Replay Media Catcher) does what I need.

So, I clicked on By Now!and nothing happens. I uninstall, install again, click on By Now!and nothing happens. Meanwhile, it is downloading like there is no tomorrow. So it decides what I should be downloading? Still, my program remains unregistered. The OS is Win7 Prof. Any suggestion how I can get it to register?

If you use Firefox, then just search for " download helper " free plugin .

You click on the button to downloads vids and can choose where to save them. Use another prog if you want to convert.

After a while of use download helper comes up with a screen saying you have downloaded 1000 vids ( when you haven,t) and asking for you to contribute to the author. If you dont contribute, then dont accept any future updates to download helper as it appears to send something to knock it out, apart from this download helper is a good free alternative that works with some formats .

I noticed that the program continues downloading even if the video has been closed. It must be manually interrupted in order to stop the download.
Additionally, rather than have it download from sites automatically, it should have an option to automatically download or to choose specific videos (which does NOT turn on the auto on/off feature).
Other than that, it seems like a good program.

Sorry, but this doesn't work on any of several sites I tries, including YouTube.

I run XP Pro, fully patched; and I tried RipTiger with both the Iron browser and IE8. No downloads at all showed up on any site where I viewed some video.

Sorry, but this is a big thumbs-down, I'm sorry to say. I was really looking forward to the promised functionality, but it literally does nothing. It's an uninstall from me. :(

Thanks for the heads up. We will see how we can improve the auto download feature.

@Jonathan #44

Automatic updating shouldn't overwrite the license code. Your loss of license was likely related to something else.

You can test this when we release a new version some time next week.

To RipTiger developer

I sent an email to the support 2 hours ago because IE crashes after installing RipTiger Trial.

I am running Win 7 Home Premium x64 and IE 8.

I am trying RipTiger out to see if the ultimate version worth it but I cannot test the advanced video ripping available through IE only.

Nobody from the support has replied to me so far.
How can I get help??

Thanks.

I have downloaded this software before on here a while back, and it is wonderful software. One piece of advice though: Don't allow it to update automatically because if you do, it will reinstall a 30 day trial and you lose the full version. The automatic update comes on after about 2 or three months. That happened to me and I was pretty upset. SO great software but DO NOT allow it to update automatically. Just close the update window if it ever does open. Thanks for the time.

Well, I thought I was going to like it - first impressions were positive - but this little bugger is WAY too aggressive.

1. You cannot turn off Auto-Downloading permanently; every time the app is started again it is in Auto mode. This is a HUGE problem because...

2. I stream media all over my house from this machine and your software can't seem to tell what I have from what I want/don't want - and immediately begins "ripping" dozens of copies of whatever videos are within the folder that someone happens to be browsing from another part of the house.

You're software is cute but the auto-DL thing is bad.

No, we haven't received a single complaint regarding compatibility / codec conflicts. RipTiger codecs are partially isolated from system codecs.

@aRenegade #38

See above. Regarding reporting bugs, where exactly did you get this info from? And also, please send us a screenshot of where you were asked to report bugs. The GOTD build doesn't differ from the standard RipTiger build, meaning that at no point you will be asked to report bugs unless in a (extremely rare) when a crash happens.

Finally, the tutorial is in the same place as it was during previous giveaway - http://riptiger.com/oninstall.html

Capturing Hulu works just fine. But it is only available in the Ultimate version. If you want to try it, install the software, but do not enter the license code. This will keep the software in trial mode with Ultimate features. When you go to Hulu and similar sites, you will see a drop down menu when you put the pointer somewhere in the video widow that allows you to start/stop recording. Seems to work best in Internet Explorer. I did not see similar options with Firefox.

I don't care to use Internet Explorer, but if that is the only browser it works well in, I can live with using IE to watch Hulu when I want to also record.

After installing this program WinPatrol alerted me that the program GSSERVICE.exe is attempting to run. GSSERVICE.exe is now in my system folder. This file has no identifying info and is NOT signed. Malware sights are tracking it, but have no info on it. Is this installed by Rip Tiger? If so, what is GSSERVICE.exe? If so, why is it not signed and given owner info?

After the installation I discovered much to my surprise two new folders in my Program Menu, “ffshow” and the “k-lite codec pack”. Which is fine except, not knowing ahead of time that two additional folders with 15 new programs between both of them were going to be installed is a bit unnerving. The next surprise was that today’s GOTD doesn’t have a user accessible Help file. Support is available on the website; you’re asked to send an email. I’m not akin to learning how to use a program by trial and error nor by playing email tag.

There are three program “Settings” options; Download location, Compatibility mode on/off slider (which without a Help file I have no idea what it does), and what to do when the program Window closes (i.e., Hide in Tray, Minimize, or Close).

Now here’s the show stopper. A user is notably asked to report any “Bugs”. I’m a consumer, the end user, not a dedicated software testing technician. And as a consumer the last thing I need to worry about with any program is its stability, technical support, and overall compatibility with my system software. Does all this mean I'll be uninstalling Rip Tiger and advising others to do the same?.....

RipTiger Full didn't work on the few sites I tested it on or with -- like many other video downloaders it seems a bit hit or miss depending on the site & the tech they use. Designed around several other apps or packages, RipTiger has a potentially large impact on your system & installed apps -- it installs an older version of a package called ffdshow [it helps Windows handle several media formats, but can also cause prob.], replacing/overwriting the current version if already installed. It adds/registers an older version of the gabest FLV Splitter [under FLVCodec], along with an older version of winpcap, a free packet capture utility [http://goo.gl/sMPC]. The driver file npf.sys is installed, along with the GSService. Every time it started RipTiger prompted to download additional files for better video conversion -- clicking OK adds the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 6.3.0 [current = 6.5.0 -- http://goo.gl/2dVUP] that's somewhat notorious for having compatibility problems. Unless it's the only app you can find that downloads/saves video from some specific site, it would be the last one I tried -- why risk the extra problems if you don't have to?

When you want to save video from whatever site, personally I recommend trying what you have already installed &/or searching [Google/Bing] to find out what others use... it may turn out to be surprisingly simple, or OTH, everyone might say it's impossible -- that's good to know *before* you try a half dozen apps, especially if you have to find/download/install them. Several apps use winpcap to sniff packets your PC/laptop receives -- many [most?] sites don't want you saving video they host, so they hide the actual URL, & in this case finding that URL is winpcap's purpose. Sometimes you might get away with saving the stream from a player like VLC, so nothing before the player matters that much. And often when the video's stored on your PC/laptop, even if temporary, apps like the free Video Cache View [Nirsoft] can save you a copy. When the video streams are protected with a lot of DRM, use special players etc. it can get really involved [some people go through a *lot* of work] or you can simply record what's playing on screen -- there are several apps just for recording on-line video, or use fraps, or you can use something like VirtualDub that does analog video capture, after you install the Unreal screen capture filter [http://goo.gl/fz73z] ... it'll put a load on your CPU, but you can even record or capture 1080p this way.

Ok! Thanks a lot for your prompt reply!!

Just 2 questions for you:

1) why does your program install the ffmpeg codec packs even if users already have them in their system?? Is there any chance to install an outdated version of them compared to those already stored in the system folder?

2)since downloading new CODECS in the system can often lead to conflicts difficult to fix, don't you think that your program should at least ask for the permission to install these kind of files in the system folders?? Have you ever received complaints about it from your customers or experienced any conflict problem between different codecs?

Wait for your feedback.

Ths in advance for your consideration.

Tried it on YouTube = NBG - got to the download screen it was just blacked out with no controls. Couldn't get near BBC Player and got a 404, ITV iPlayer wouldn't run any VTR either. I will keep trying though.
If it works as well as others claim it does then it could be very good.

Question to RipTiger: Should I have un-installed the last GOTD version I had on my PC before installing this? It installed fine, appears to run fine - However - There's no "Menu" choice, no "Buy", "Enter License code" and so-on as written in the readme file. This says it's RipTiger Full 2.9.0 and I did nothing to register this version after just installing it.

Will this therefore expire too?

The codec packs are required in order to play the downloaded videos.

Most of the online video web-sites differ from each other, making it very challenging to develop and support a program like RipTiger.

Simple browser plugins won't get you far because they support a very small number of web-sites comparing to RipTiger and get obsolete quick, unless actively supported.

RipTiger contains many modules because it needs them to ensure compatibility with all those video sharing and streaming web-sites.

Hi man !!!

Could you please show me a couple of FREE plugins for IE, FIREFOX or OPERA that can do the same thing as you mentioned in your above message?

After reading your comment I'm no longer sure to install this SW in my PC.

It would be nice if the RipTiger DEVELOPER could explain us why this program wants to immediately install a bunch of free codecs packs plus ffmpeg, winpcap and several DLLs in the system folders during installation and what negative effects all of this could cause in our system once we have installed this program.

Thx.

Does it work with javascript hidden streams ? If not there are much better ones like Jaksta. I yes I'm gonna compare them for sure. More and more streams are well protected, especially the ones from broadcasting organizations, to download from Youtube etc. that's so simple you don't need even a software for that but the real challenge are the hidden and protected streams. Would love to hear some more experiences regarding the tougher streaming sites !

It should be set up to CHECK IF you want it. Too many people don't pay attention and I think you know that.

Its the same as the "ASK Toolbar" where they rely on people not paying attention to gain entry to computers.

That should be illegal.

This program wants to install an update immediately. The update consists of a bunch of free codecs packs plus ffmpeg, winpcap and several DLLs installed in the system folders. IMO, downloading new codecs is ALWAYS dangerous (as codecs conflicts are very frequent and very difficult to fix), and the program should ask for the permission to install files in the system folders.

Under Vista/7, if you have launched the program at the end of the install process, it runs with Administrator rights, and when it will download and install the codec packs, the UAC will not be triggered again. So, be warned: the install procedure of this program is NOT SAFE, even under a well protected system such as Win7.

It is also strange to install the ffmpeg codec, as I have it already on my system. I hate those programs that are unable to detect the codecs, and insist to install other (and possibly outdated) versions of the same files elsewhere.

Anyway, take care, and back your system up (with System Restore) before installing this program. And note that there are many free plugins for your favourite browser that can do exactly the same thing, without having to install many useless files.

at #7 It might be so that RipTiger downloaded the actual video file in that case and the other software you checked saved the video stream while it was playing. The difference in download time can therefor be explained by the download speed of the servers which host the video and the different methods beind used.

at #8 please read the discription:
