Does recover data but it seems to revert to its trial version every time I restart it which would mean that it isn't a giveaway at all since I cannot register it with the given key after today.

With only an hour left before the giveaway ends, I'm still not able to register this software. Bearing in mind others comments and the fact all of the drives on my main computer are either SSD's or M.2 SSD's I may as well delete the software. (Not sure if TRIM or SCSI Deallocate are enabled; I'm being a bit lazy TK, how do I check if TRIM is enabled? Thanks in advance.

The major problem with this tool is that it does not recover any filename or directory structure. It just scans and recovers files it finds, but stores them with an arbitrary filename and only roughly groups them by filetype. I have scanned a perfectly ok drive and only got many files - 7 TB of files on a 2 TB drive... aha... good job!. For this simple purpose there are many free tools. (For example, R-Studio - which, to be honest, is not free - recovered an entire directory structure.)

What a waste of my time. I download it, install it, register it and proceed to use it on a Smart card that I had been trying to retrieve some deleted files from. I received an error message at first but it was still scanning so I let it go and it did find the files on the card but when I clicked Recover, I get a message that I have to purchase the Pro version for that - even though I had already "registrated" it (is that even a word?). I restarted it thinking that might resolve the problem. Nope, I had to put the activation code in every time I started it up and now when it finishes scanning, the program shuts down, so - useless for me. Don't know if this is specific to me and my setup or what but it sure didn't happen for me.

Installed, but was unable to register the program. Kept getting Failed to connect to registration server:

I had a lot of issues when C drive is full for example. no system restore . I had to re install Win 10 .

It works when you register it but once you close the program and run it again, it's not a registered program.

going to give this a try.. But i still think that Recuva is Just as good and is always Free

I found the recovered data I was looking for, but when I tried to save it to a folder I got the message, ‘No folder found to save the data. Please use an external device.’ I initially tried saving to original folder but couldn’t because it said it would overwrite it, so I created a new folder, but when I tried to save it to it, gave the above message, so then I tried to save it to other folders I already had, but still got the same message. Please can someone tell me how to resolve this problem? Also an additional potential problem, I closed the program but when I re-opened it later, it was showing again as a trial version so I had to re-register. I hope this doesn’t happen again tomorrow as the GAOTD key won’t work.

Would not register for me in a Win7 32-bit VM, in Win10’s Sandbox, or in a regular copy of Win10 – showed registered, and title bar of app showed Pro rather than Trial, but restarting the app reverted to Trial.

Installing RecoverXData Pro also installs an older copy of the Microsoft C/C++ runtimes in a rude fashion – instead of one of Windows’ 2 temp folders, it uses Root [C:\] for the temp install files, which are left in place afterwards. It also triggers a rewrite of the Schema data in the registry -- *shouldn’t* really be a problem, but with a few hundred thousand new registry entries, there’s always the potential for something to go wrong… *Stuff* happens. That said, the app *looks* like it’s portable, though I can’t swear to it since I’ve no idea where it would store the activation key [IF it worked]. Unfortunately, it will not run in WinPE, pretty much dashing any hopes of having RecoverXData Pro on a bootable USB stick/drive -- this is another app you’d have to use a Windows To Go drive to accomplish that.

Another option, that works with most any file recovery app, is to use the bootable USB stick/drive you create with a backup app like Macrium Reflect, using the option to back up the entire partition including free space – you can then run whatever recovery software on the backup you restored to another drive. That can also be a good option when the drive you want to recover from is an SSD, because Trim… since an SSD requires that data be cleared before new data can be written in the same place, deleted [lost] file data is proactively cleared. You can turn off Trim in Windows, but many [most?] SSDs can & will run Trim from their firmware regardless.

Installation to a specific directory without problems.
tried to look for files deleted in a given directory, the program could not find anything. Could not find anything in the recycle bin that had been deleted. Deepscan not tried. Used on ssd harddisk.

Am I missing something but there appears no way to recover from "virus/malware attack"??

Decided to uninstall since this was a feature that I was particularly interested in because a lot of recovery software falls fall short in this area.

Pardon my ignorance, but could someone explain to me the difference between plain data recovery and the recovery of the file structure itself?
While I understand the need for recovering critical or non-replaceable files, I can't imagine crawling through a TB of files which have no context or file structure.

I think a recovery program, not able to save to network drive is close to useless.
It shows many items but i could not yet recover anything as C: has no space and D: is original path.

Note if installing without checking "advanced" options it is probably like the data loss a user fault. But of course it is also VERY STUPID of the developers because it should not be an option to select destination for installation. Anyway portable software to be preferred...

Sometimes it is very necessary program. I hope it will be needed rarely ;-)

Installed, registered and runs on Win 10. Haven't had time yet to check if it works (I plan to use it on an SD card accidentally formatted in a device whose producer claims recovery is impossible after a format, so I don't expect any success, but it may work well for others).
One important note - when the installation window pops up, there is a link to a custom setup near the bottom right corner. If you click it, the window expands and you can uncheck the box next to "Agree to user experience improvement" or something along these lines. It seems that unless you do it, some data about your use of the program may be collected and transferred to its producer.

The data recovery is difficult on SSD drives, because the data is stored in a 3D pattern and I still have to find software that can handle such recovery.
Furthermore, the recovery software must be portable or installed on an external drive and should not expire within 6-12 months. When those conditions are met, I will install it. I have hundreds of hundreds time expired software that need to be uninstalled, it is time consuming and tedious job.

I'd love to try it but I get an error - The code execution cannot proceed because LogServer.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

When installing the software a warning pops up advising not to install on the partition you want to recover files from. The software then defaults to install on C Drive with no apparent option to change the destination.

The publisher's website then opens giving the choice of updating to the Pro version with unlimited recovery.....??!! This is supposed to be the Pro version according to the name of the program. There seems to be no information on their site comparing the Free version to the Pro version, except it says the Free version will allow you to find what files you can recover. Does this mean one needs to upgrade to be able to recover anything??

RecoveryXData works perfectly, but you must use 'Deep Recovery' for any results. Items found, 134 photos, 50 items damaged and unusable and 9 that are still on the micro SD card from the camera.

About a month ago i delete folders with too many photos (from ssd drive).
i wanted to recover, if possible, many of them.
Using deep scan, end up with zero results.
Maybe it is the SSD thing, which can't recover as easy as in a HDD.
