This giveaway came along just as I was about to look for something. I had an error on my PC and somehow lost data on my second hard drive.
This programme run well found loads of flies but somehow all the files are loaded into another area which has left the folders empty. So that leaves me trying to manage a right mess.
I have also compared it to a free version of AOMEI Partition assistant. This found loads of files (mainly .MOV) that Rcysoft could not. However to recover these I will have to pay for a licence. That is not a problem. Just left me wondering why they could not be found in the first place.
Conclusion; is that there are better recovery software in the market place. A down vote from me.

Installed and ran fine, Windows 7 64, phoned home to Canada / Hong Kong during registration, then went silent, Internet wise.
Scanned a partition in moments and listed all deleted files for me to toggle on or off and restore to elsewhere.
Not super sophisticated or feature laden, but has the benefits of essential features, it's super simple, and it works.

What a pity that Rcysoft has shot itself in the foot with behaviour that makes you think if you can't believe what it says about itself then how can you believe what it says about it's software? Competition is good for the consumer, and I for one would have been interested in trying this software and perhaps even purchasing it. Computer users are not hostile to new kids on the block. GAOTD users especially are likely to encourage them. Rcysoft had no need to pretend anything but because it obviously has done then like the poster at post number 1, thanks but no thanks. Whether or not Rcysoft intended it, I don't like being treated as if I am stupid.

Yeah, like Microsoft releasing Windows 10, and we all know there was no Windows 9 ( -ish).
Oh, wait a minute ...
... here is where WE test and report on any software's actual behavior and usefulness, instead of merely reviewing marketing promise hooey.
I ran the software, it's clean, and appears effective and quick at NTFS erased and raw data identofication and recovery ( Windows 7 64 ).
Let's not be bullies, let be reviewers.

There are basically 2 parts to an external drive -- the drive itself & the interface so that drive can be used by a computer. There's a chance that your problem is with that interface, & the drive itself is just fine. 1st try the drive with other PCs &/or laptops, then check the drive manufacturer's web site support for potential solutions, and if those routes fail, Google on how to access & use the drive itself with the make/model external drive you have.

Interesting to see today's Chinese developer tackling a core issue head-on with this question emblazoned on its home page: 'Why trust Rcysoft?'
There are -- somewhere -- 547 reviews of today's paid-for version and -- somewhere -- 2,845 reviews of the freeware version. Or so the website says. Millions of users worldwide positively LOVE Rcysoft. Or so the website says. Rcysoft Data Recovery Wizard Pro is the leading recovery software in 160 countries. Or so the website says.
The world, however, seems strangely coy about its enthusiasm. Rcysoft's website links (such as they are) lead to a crass Softpedia 'review' of the product and a reported 24 downloads, and to a download site's "Publisher's Description' with a reported 111 downloads. Evidence of the existence of a contented worldwide user base is short by many millions.
As GOTD comment threads exist to be of benefit as much to the developer of the day as to GOTD visitors of the day, here's a tip to Rcysoft:
Be it data recovery or any other kind of software, computer users really really do not like having to resort to truth recovery in order to figure out whether they should trust a product enough to install it on their machine.
In answer to that question then: 'Why trust Rcysoft?' the answer, in my case, has to be: 'I don't.' Thanks GOTD, but no thanks. More than enough known, established and trustworthy recovery software exists out there without bothering with something so deliberately misrepresented as this.

Not also to mention that it was apparently born in version 8.0, as Google cannot find any other version ever published. All these childish tricks and claims by Rcysoft only serve to answer the question of "Why NOT trust Rcysoft?". I wouldn't touch such a company with a ten-foot pole.

VirusTotal says the program and the website do not appear to be malware by 60+ standards, and it phones home once to Canada at registration, otherwise, it seems okay, especially free.
Regarding false promises, have any of us actually read the web page marketing hooey for programs we know and love ( or love to hate ) such as Microsoft promising the world, Intel promising the world, and both companies are convicted felons for illegal monopoly practices.
Perhaps we need to cleanup our own act first if we want America to be Great as an example, ever.

Make that ping-during registration site owned through Hong Kong, registered by Alibaba, a company significantly invested in by US Yahoo ( started by immigrants to the US ), so the Canada site pinged for registration is just part of the WWW World Wide Web we all belong to.
AND Microsoft Windows, Office, Apple, and other programs phoned home during the same time, and I did nothing with them, so they are self-initiated and idiopathic
The point is to review the software and report on ancillary stuff, and keep it all in comparative perspective.
I find that there is nothing special or risky about this product, and it compares well to competitive offerings.

Peter Blaise: Anything that's going to be installed on my computer has to be something in which I can at least have a minimum of trust. The issue (where I'm concerned) with today's developer is that it has gone to such extraordinary lengths to abuse any trust I might've had in it as a producer, to the extent that I've no reason, now, to trust its product. I appreciate that these comment threads exist to review actual products, but they also exist to help developers. I believe the criticisms of this developer today to be fully justified and hope, therefore, that it will learn its marketing isn't clever but utterly self-defeating. By all means though, you go ahead and use the product. You're obviously more forgiving than me.

I'm not "forgiving" of marketing, because marketing has absolutely zero impact on the behavior of software in my computer, which is all I care about.
Today's GOTD is nicely and cleanly programmed to have essential features and deliver their benefits effortlessly.
