Any chance we can start and see more programs that don't have subscription fees? This is becoming a real joke and all these rip off subscription fees were never around until Microsoft started this trend with Office.

Beats me how anyone can afford to pay for all these things? Yet people wonder why so many have returned to piracy.

Anyone have any idea why the digital signature certificate for the installation program is not recognized by Windows 7 SP 1 or is it just me?

Acarolinensis, this is a rare situation that happens on some computers. To solve this you simply need to make the editor a Trusted Publisher. Create a ticket and we will email you the procedure.

The installation process does not let the user modify the HD letter to install the product on but forces the installation of the system and I assume all the templates and symbols etc to the C: drive.

I only have limited space on my C: drive....... so can someone tell me how much HD drive space on the C: the full installation takes?

I downloaded and installed there was no shortcut for it. ( I'm used to having) So I opened PowerPoint and checked add on but it does not show up. I did find it on Excel but have no idea how it works there or if it does. I have a 2007 PP and Excel, there is no support for it so can't get any input from them. I am keeping the software in case I get a newer version of PP soon. If there is anything else I can do please tell me. I did download and installed twice. Thanks.

Just for fun, I also tried it on Office 2003 on XP: surprisingly, it appeared to install successfully, but also shows no sign of being present.
Incidentally, is anyone else finding the Captchas increasingly frustrating?

Reply   |   Comment by BAW30s  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Frank G,why do you say there is no support? We have a FAQ, a Contact section and we answer within 24h to any message. If the add-in is not activate on your PowerPoint, go to File/Options/Add-ins, click the "Go" button at the bottom and then tick the box to activate the software.

Reply   |   Comment by Dan  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Smonds, when you start Excel it should ask to install it, it will then appear in the options bar above the ribbon 'Power-user'

Ok got an email back from developer..actually 2 emails.
No, at present time there is not an edition for Mac..since Powerpoint runs in Mac Keynote, in theory this may work, but not enough resources, as of yet, to develop a Mac edition until PC version is up to its potential.

As for the license "After a year the software goes back to a limited version with only a few features. However all the slides created with it remain accessible and fully editable. You can then renew your license, keep only the limited features, or remove the software." The limited version is the "free download" version.

I have sent a request into the developer asking what happens after a year, with the license, and also if a Mac edition is available. Will re-post answers here as soon as received.
And GOTD if you are listening..please, in the future, post answers to prudent questions you know will be asked such as "What happens to the license after its period ends?" and "is their an edition for anything besides Windows?" Remember GOTD, while we appreciate the ability at the software, not all developers can/will monitor these giveaway forums.

Here are 2 suggestions to improve:

1. During the Insert Arrows function, there was a pop up giving instructions on how to set the trust level to Trust access to the VBA project object model. I would suggest to leave the instructions on until the user clicks an x at the top right corner to close it.

2. May i suggest to include flowchart symbols with user selectable gradient backgrounds. Not the flat 2D boring flowchart symbols but nice 3D flowchart symbols?

PowerPoint Presentations are the thing of the past, our clients and I believe most of the other clients at the other companies want the bottom line first, they do not want to set time, travel, gather, listen on a persuasion that is all bundled in few pie charts and presented only the positive side of the arguments. Since everybody knows that the negative side will never be put in a presentation, nobody pays attention to the talk or laser pointing device on an outdated chart.
Our clients want the report on one typed page with all the facts condensed and warranted to be true. The presentation is just distraction and lies to pad the positive and hide the negative.
You do not have to agree to this statement, but I have worked for a number of companies and the moment someone mentions presentation, the clients are all of a sudden not interested in any deals offered to them.

Reply   |   Comment by Nathan  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-7)

Presentations are given for many reasons, not just to clients. They can be given to present financial information, at technical conferences, and anywhere someone is trying to tell a story. If it's not for you, then fine, but it doesn't mean it's a thing of the past just because it's not for you.

Reply   |   Comment by Robert  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+13)

Nathan, you may be right about business, but there are an awful lot of people (like me) who use them to illustrate talks given to societies and other informal groups, as well as in education. I see two or three every week.

Reply   |   Comment by BAW30s  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

Nathan,
Wow. PowerPoint presentations are lies and 1 page reports are truth.

In my experience, that distinction is more a function of the author than of the medium.

Reply   |   Comment by Michael Henry  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+26)

Michael Henry, Obviously you have never worked at corporate level, it is, what it is, the presentations are old fashion, time and money wasters for the companies and the clients. With Internet, SEC, FTC, stock market, web sites and other info available to a prospective client, makes the presentation an insult when you try to enhance
the good and hide the bad. Many presentations have kill the deals do to obfuscation of the truth.

Reply   |   Comment by Marie  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Robert, all of what you suggested above has been replaced with cloud presentation, with DVDs, hands on video and factual films and knowledge base interactive HTTPs web sites, were you can request, watch, contact or interact with the presenter at your own time and convenience. Everyone has some sort of Internet connection these days, just give them the HTTP address for the interactive presentation (audio, video, graphs, technical d-base and so on) and watch the amazement or reactions from the viewers.

Reply   |   Comment by Marie  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Nathan: speaking from the world of advertising, I agree. Your comments are borne out by considerable experience. Clients with $multi-million spends would nowadays fall over first, then quit the room afterwards, doubled up with laughter at the very thought of spread-sheets and slides (!) when what they expect are VIP tickets to Grand Prix races, seats at Wimbledon or the chance to pose for piccies on a VLY (Very Large Yacht) with a Monaco mooring. But, but, but. . .

The nature of an audience always but always dictates the nature of a presentation, and in education (especially) but also elsewhere, Powerpoint is useful and appreciated, not least because something that looks impressive can actually be put together by folks who are really not that tech savvy.

There's likely to be a place for PowerPoint / Excel for quite a while yet, and if this software complements that then it, too, has a future.

Reply   |   Comment by MikeR  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Nathan, The vast majority of power point presentations are not about clients and companies, rather they are about the everyday activities in academics, both in research and teaching.

Reply   |   Comment by bohurupi  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Nathan,
I'm in business, and they are used every day for many, many things including business plans, training, internal strategy, project status, etc. You may be in only one small niche that has abandoned it, but you certainly cannot speak for the vast majority of us that still use it.

Reply   |   Comment by John Lyons  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Marie,
Yes they CAN be used to obfuscate, but the same is true for 1 page summaries. It actually easier to lie in a 1 page summary since there is no room for supporting data.

Regular pricing is ridiculous. Free for students and teachers (why ?), otherwise 16 € per month, every month, for life. I wish software developers would stop charging preposterous amounts because someone, some day, invented the subscription model. I don't rent a screwdriver. I buy one.

Reply   |   Comment by Dan  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Dan,

Not only businesses. The price I quoted is for a single user. Businesses get volume discounts.

However, this is too expensive for businesses as well. Companies are not cash cows to be milked endlessly. Business computers don't have one program on them. The have tens or hundreds installed. This is getting out of control.

8,30 € per month buys you the whole Microsoft Office 365 for 5 users. That's 7 major, complex, standalone programs in a single package.

Power User is just an add-on to 2 of them, Excel and Power Point.

xilolee, this is a sensible question to ask on this page as the answer will affect all users, many of whom (such as myself) will be asking the same question. If the question is only sent to the support people then only commentor2018 will get the answer.
The question really ought to be addressed by the GOTD team as they may have a special arrangement with the software developer that is different from the standard product license.
As 1-year licenses seem to be becoming more frequent then GOTD should be able to anticipate the question and include specific details at the top of the page, along with the requirements etc.

Reply   |   Comment by emperor  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+54)

commentor2018, It means you can use the specific features for 1 year, and then it's just disabled (but the slides you created with the plugin remain fully editable)

Reply   |   Comment by Dan  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

emperor, It is a sensible question to ask, but if the developer doesn't monitor this forum, it will fall on deaf ears. If commentator2018 got an answer back from the developer, it would be beneficial if they posted the response they received. GOTD is the same way, they only answer questions on here once in a blue moon..yes they should address this straight away. I myself have sent the question in, and will re-post the response. And as far as 1 yr license, as Clairvaux pointed out, we buy a screwdriver to keep, not rent an expensive 1.

Reply   |   Comment by DJ  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

DJ, The reason software makers can get away with subscription is because software can be programmed to expire ( or reduced functionalities etc.) after certain period of time. They can not do that with physical things.
Blame it on Adobe for starting the whole idea of subscription.

Reply   |   Comment by Paul  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Paul, Yes I know the reason how and why..and it can be done with physical things..If I need a screwdriver to use, I will buy it (1 time payment, mine forever), not rent it when I need it (license/rental payment for a year)
You can blame whoever you wish for whatever you wish, but it does not have to continue .

Reply   |   Comment by DJ  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Paul, Sadly, they can and do do that with physical things. Have you never heard of planned obsolescence?

Reply   |   Comment by Laxative  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

commentor2018, I have send the developer this question through their websiteand and they replied me an email saying that after 1 year most of the software features will be disabled and will only have access to a limited number of features and content. However, all content created by the user during this year will remain usable and editable.
Hope that helps
