I find Photo Stitcher Pro 2.0.0 to be a delightful little program, this is a keeper, even if I only use it rarely, it is unique, no other program does what this program does, 2 specific things that - FRAME and DRAWING controls ... read on.

I did NOT try the "panorama" stitching feature to make one big seamless continuous image out of a bunch of smaller parts of a total scene - all my cameras have in-built panorama capabilities, AND the word "panorama" has come to mean "super aligned and corrected wide angle presentation" even though the word "panorama" in the past in other disciplines also just means a wide presentation of related stuff.

panorama ( noun ) 1796, "a painting on a revolving cylindrical surface", representing scenes too extended to be beheld all at once, coined circa 1789 by inventor, Irish artist Robert Barker, literally "a complete view", from pan- "all" + Greek horama "sight, spectacle, that which is seen", from horan "to look, see", which is possibly from Proto Indo European root *wer- "to perceive, observe". Meaning "comprehensive survey, complete or entire view" is by 1801. An unbroken view of the whole region surrounding an observer. A picture or photograph containing a wide view. A complete survey or presentation of a subject or sequence of events.

Note that "a complete survey or presentation of a subject or sequence of events", such as a "panorama" of DIFFERENT pictures telling a story, and this meaning is becoming replaced by "one super wide angle view of one scene".

As such, all these programs are imprecisely named, "stitching" and "panorama' could mean anything, combining seamlessly into one final scene, or combining obviously different pictures into a big presentation, and could be horizontal, vertical, or both, including "mosaic" or "collage", these words each do not mean only one thing, nobody owns them, no program has them right and the other programs have them wrong, they are just different interpretations, and apparently each program means something different, so let's not presume, and let's not compare the programs to each other as good or bad, but compare each program to our own expectations.

Photo Stitcher Pro 2.0.0 is ( unnecessarily ) awkward to figure out, it's naive in it's presentations, controls, and results, but a potentially useful tool on occasion nonetheless ( note, this v2 is more like other programmers v0.2 beta ).

I made a stip by accident, yeah, that's how we learn ...

... I highlighted a bunch of picture files, hit enter, and ONE appeared on screen, only ONE, so I presumed that this software can only load ONE picture file at a time, so then I tried to load additional pictures, one at a time, but the original ONE picture was still all I could see on screen ... what to do, what to do ...

... somehow, on screen, as I was exploring all the controls, the ONE picture on screen moved, just a little, a little to the left, slightly moving it's left edge off screen to the left ... and suddenly I could see the 2nd picture to the right, the 2nd picture that I had originally tried to load was actually loaded and was there all along ...

... and then I could see the 2nd picture that I had added a 2nd time, and so on, I could see eventually scroll and see all the pictures I had loaded, and they were assembled in a strip, even though the program did not show them all to ne me at first when I loaded them.

Every picture actually loaded at once ( well, JPEGs, not BMp files ), yes they did, but the software did not show me everything that loaded, the software showed me only ONE picture, only the first picture, with no clue that to the other pictures were actually loaded, too, actuall right there, hidden off screen to the right.

So, advice to the vendor:

- on the first load screen, always initially show at least the first picture, PLUS show some of the second picture on screen to the right, so we new-users know to scroll,

- always show a scroll bar for the main image,

- always show 2 copies of the strip,

- - one on-screen copy should be a smaller "thumbnail" copy of the whole strip, at the bottom or at the right ( for vertical strips ) showing the entire strip,
- - with a little moving frame along the thumbnail strip that corresponds to the current full-window display part of the strip,
- - plus a scroll bar for the thumbnail,
- - and making the thumbnail scalable so we always have 2 views of the strip on screen.

UNIQUE GENIUSE FEATURES:

FRAME: I really like the framing outside, inside. and or both, changing the color of the frame, and changing the thickness of the frame - genius, well done, kudos!

DRAWING: The drawing feature is weird and I suppose useful, and it took me a while to realize that "mosaic" did not refer to the pictures themselves, but to the drawing tool itself - weird, but really nice, perhaps rename it to "drawing tool pattern", because the word "mosaic" in the photography-world already means to "combine pictures into a collage", which this software's "mosaic" tool does not do.

Additional needs:

- offer information and controls on individual image and total image resolution, size, depth of color, compression choices when saving, including saving to BMp and PDF and TIFF without further re-compression,

- see free IrfanView for controls to change color depth - 8 bit or lower, 256 colors of lower, RGB or grayscale, and so on,
- - right now, I have to prepare a bunch of image files in IrfanView first, get them to be the color depth ( especially 16-color RGB, and even 16-color grayscale, both of which make very small output files with images that present and illustrate well, yet are not functionally scavengeable for repurposing beyond my own intentions ),

- offer to make the total strip output file resolution match the highest/largest resolution image in the strip ... or the lowest resolution/size image in the strip, or anywhere in between,

- import and save to any and all image file formats, including GIF, imagine making a Brady-Bunch-style matrix of our family all smiling, laughing, and waving,

- allow us to make horizontal and vertical presentations in one pass, such as 3 x 3 or 4 x 4 or 2 x 6, and so on.

The framing and the mosaic drawing are, in my experience, unique, genius, no other software in my experience accomplishes these two features.

Vertexshare are a group of insightful programmers with a visionary sense of what results would/could/should look like, this is a software company to watch for more programs offering unique and valuable points of view.

Noite: close would be loading picture files into a spreadsheet, then playing with resizing and borders and printing to PDF options, arduous, but once accomplished, becomes a recipe for future assembly ... do spreadsheet programs allow us to draw, or do we then need to open the constructed and saved output file in anothe rprogram and draw from there?

When trying to stitch photos for pam view the software justs closes ?.

I do 2D gigapixel stitches of meteorite thin section microscope images (about 150 to 300 images per stitch). I've tried a lot of different stitchers – both commercial and free – trying to find one that does an effective job. Hopefully these comments will help others looking for a good 2D stitching program.

Photo Stitcher Pro’s interface looks pleasing, and there are a few nice features (like adding watermarks and defining border colors), but for me its interface is quite non-intuitive. Admittedly there are some misspellings and other kinds of errors throughout the program (“WARTMARK” instead of “WATERMARK” on the main screen, as an example). But performance is most important, and unfortunately in that regard I can’t say much, as I’ve tried the panorama mode for 2D stitching but it always fails, either saying I need to add more images (in this case, 260 should have been plenty) or showing a set of thumbnails that only included a small fraction of the images I specified.

Consequently the only other thing I can offer is that the uninstall was quite clean, resulting in just one leftover trace found by Reg Organizer. However, since other stitchers were mentioned in the comments, hopefully the following will help some.

Most of the premier packages I’ve found and tested use things like SIFT algorithms in an attempt to automatically fit the images together. But this can be problematic for image sets like mine, where there are a lot of border images with little information (think of trying to stitch a night scene with a lot of dark sky above a moonlit mountain). One comment asked about PhotoStitcher – which, by the way, was encouraging in that it specifically advertises the ability to stitch microscope images by offering several different projection planes to chose from – but it’s an example of a program that tries to do automatic stitching that was never able to complete any image set I gave it either.

I’ve found that to overcome the inability of automatic alignment algorithms to work with these kinds of image sets, one needs to be able to specify the order of image acquisition and how they fit together. While most of the available packages don't seem to allow such manual overrides, the notable exceptions that I've found are PanoramaStudio and Microsoft's ICE (the latter has already been mentioned in the comments).

I’ve favored ICE because of its clean and intuitive interface, fast stitching speeds, and an ability to easily specify image arrangements. For my needs, it’s been the most accurate and consistent stitcher I’ve been able to find and test. For me, the big problem with ICE is that in trying to blend images, it does auto exposure and white balance compensation that cannot be disabled. But with these microscope image sets, ICE can produce results with very large exposure or white balance gradients from one corner to another, which of course is unacceptable (an online search will show several threads related to this issue). Unfortunately, this was a Microsoft Research project that has not been supported for a very long time, so there is no hope for a fix (nor is there a way to turn the automatic corrections off).

For my use, PanoramaStudio is the next best thing (I’ve also tried Hugin, the now unsupported AutoPano, and many others). PanoramaStudio allows specifying an image order, but it is a little more difficult to do than with ICE (PanoramaStudio seems to be targeted more for standard photography, so it has a lot more features like lens distortion and vignette correction that must be disabled or "fooled" to work well for image sets like mine). Still, I've found PanoramaStudio to be much better about not introducing ICE’s unwanted gradients (though occasionally I've run into some odd issues with this that the author is currently investigating). Its stitching accuracy is comparable with ICE’s, though it’s a little more finicky about knowing the image overlap, and unlike ICE, the best results are only obtained when these overlaps are very accurately known (ICE is much more forgiving – conversely, PanoramaStudio will still produce reasonable stitches with less accurate numbers, but the results will show some minor warping).

I know my needs are fairly unique compared to the average customer for this kind of product, but hopefully this admittedly lengthy description will help any others trying to decide between commercial and free multi-row stitchers.

It would be useful to have the ability to select a particular photo and to rotate it, rather than having to use another tool first, and THEN importing it. Additionally, the "Clear" function is all or nothing; it would be nice when I screw up (and I do that a lot), to be able to delete JUST the offending photo and re-add it, leaving any existing photo's alone. This speaks to the other problem I had, which was the lack of a more universal "undo" function for the last action or a series of actions, which this program sorely needs. Also, it would be nice to be able to resize each individual picture and/or the entire conglomeration of pictures to either some standard frame sizes or by inches or centimeters rather than pixels or dragging. Some of the features are not self-explanatory - don't seem to do anything; I'm sure I'm wrong, but the tutorial isn't sufficiently in-depth for me. I don't think this is quite ready for the public yet.

Am I understanding your AI Image Enlarger correctly...........Can I take a photo or graphic that is 70 pixels and change it to 300 pixels ? then enlarge up to x8 max to print it?

Program won't run. It says:

"The procedure entry point RaiseFallFastException could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL 32.dll."

They should call it photo collage maker instead of stitcher.

Downloaded this morning. Tried 3 portrait-oriented photos.
1. The app shows them in landscape view & I find no way to change this in the app.
2. Sizing are 2 numbers without reference or method of maintaining the existing ratio if one is altered.

The app shows promise, but seems less than sophisticated in manipulation of images. Am I missing something?

Not really a photo stitcher more of a linear (horizontal or vertical) panorama creator.
I was hoping it would be useful to stitch many row of photos together to create a large hi-res stitched photo, but al it would do is just lay them out in a single row or column.
It can also not hand RAW file formate and just uses the lo-res thumbnail embedded in it.
Uninstalling after 10 mins.

Some photo cameras have built-in the panorama option. If you don't have it it's very difficult to create a set of photos for stitching.
