I used their previous version (1.0, I believe) with good results. I expect to get even better results with this version upgrade! By the way, it took only about 3 seconds to receive the registration code via email, and installation was a breeze! Thanks so much, GAOTD and SoftOrbits!

Based on the comments of others, it looks like this is a program I would not want to install. Besides, it appears to be identical in purpose but inferior in function to the very highly regarded TeoreX PhotoScissors, which has been offered here on 5/22/14, 6/23/15, 11/2/16, and most recently on 7/27.

I often read through the comments to see what alternatives are recommended by others. This is especially useful when I'm looking for alternatives after the GOTD offer has expired. Looking through the comments for previous GOTD offerings (PhotoScissors, Picture Cutout Guide) gave me the following. Some are free, some are not. Please note that I do not have personal experience with these. I'm just sharing relevant links which have been shared on GOTD by others previously.

I got the program downloaded, installed and activated. But when I went to run the program I got an error that the entry point was not found. I really wish I would have read all the other comments PRIOR to messing with this program. Needless to say, they now have my email due to having to "register the product". Great.

I've downloaded it and find it approaches being an 'OK' product. Imo, it needs to have another tool built in that defines what the line between keep and remove is. (Example can be seen through Topaz Lab's "Remask" filter). Once that addition comes to fruition, I believe the product would be very good.

It does not do what it says:
1. when saving, the saved photo becomes blank. you save the worked on picture with new background, but when you look at the picture you saves, there is only a white empty picture.
2. when still working on it (before knowing it's going to vanish when saving), the view becomes suddenly very large and keeps growing, with no reason that I could think of.
3. It erased faces along with background, or parts of clothing. marking them green made them stay, but I did not find how to get rid of those green faces afterwords.

Four different email addresses with my name and no sent activation links.
Another name and activation link will arrive at the same addresses immediately.
Just like on https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/sketch-drawer-4-2/#comment-552569 so SoftOrbits my name repeatedly censors.

I have downloaded some photo's/pictures from the internet:
Tiger: https://ootjegotd.stackstorage.com/s/WNDV97HjbfLNkdl
and a couch: https://ootjegotd.stackstorage.com/s/0T9luaMFjaJSqe8
I loaded the tiger into Photo Background Remover 3.2 and remove the background:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/usncba5qqotftg5/Verwijdering_Tijger.png
And removed with the eraser a few extra parts and saved it:
https://ootjegotd.stackstorage.com/s/o2ImHTtSEI4NX02
In this Windows Paint.net is installed; this program also can work with layers.
I have loaded the two pictures in two layers, did some adjustments, size, place ... and combined the layers :
https://ootjegotd.stackstorage.com/s/fPnHBkevhFwm41t
Other picture:
https://ootjegotd.stackstorage.com/s/BR4WwRQOTib6d1m
This one takes some more work:

and: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3cimwvifjc1is/Verwijdering_Vrijheidsbeeld-2.png
The result:

Registration process to get activation code seemed like a few too many hoops to jump through, but I received a code without problems.

I uninstalled a previous 1.4 version and then installed version 3.2. Installation was quick and simple on my Windows 7 x64 system. (Installation did not deactivate another SoftOrbits title I had.) In the program options I saw no option to decline checking for updates. Like what was previously mentioned, avoid clicking on any subsequent offers for program updates as the upgrade will deactivate your 3.2 copy.

This is not a program I use every day, but I do have an occasion to use it when selling on-line. When posting pictures of merchandise it allows easy removal of unwanted items in the background.

Question to SoftOrbits.
What are the differences between this version and the previous one (2.1) offered here at GAOTD?

I had version 1.4 from some time ago from a previous giveaaway and that was the only SoftORbits software on my laptop. I made sure 1.4 was still working, then installed this version, v 3.2. Installation on Win10x64 under Classic Shell.
It did not attempt to install other things and gave choice of where to install, and where to put Start Menu item. Does not put desktop icon or offer to do it. Total size around 46mb installed.
Previous version 1.4 was deactivated and would not re-activate with the code (saved from previous GAotD). I used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall 1.4, deleted a couple of leftover reg entries and folders.
Went back to 3.2, and that was now deactivated (possibly due to deleted 1.4 reg entries?). Re-activated with today's code, worked fine. No option to prevent checking for software updates that I could see (so I blocked with firewall, application now opens much more slowly, eight seconds total).
V3.2 looks similar to 1.4. On open, you get two resizable markers; a green one to color what you want to keep and a red one for what you want deleted. If you don't mark it red, the program may or may not remove it. Marking it green protects it from being removed. This software is not particularly fast, nor is it good at determining via algorithm what parts you want to keep or remove.
I used an image of a car; if I did not mark anything green, the software removed the windows, tires, and roof. Marking the car green protected those parts, but I purposely did not cover some bits or left a gap, and the software did not do a good job of differentiating.
A full featured program like GIMP (free) or Photoshop works much better and not much harder to use, though a bit more of a learning curve. For background removal, Teorex's Inpaint is much, much better.

alordofchaos,

Just out of curiosity, would doing an image/back-up then restore, fix the registration problems you have faced after installing the latest version? Or does it not matter whether or not you load the image, and once the program accesses the internet, it will be ordered to shut down, even though the new product was technically never installed in that configuration?

I am asking because I have seen many times, where someone get a newer version of a program, they got free before, then neither program works, and the old program, which they enjoyed, won't work ever again, because they went through the process of registering the newer version. It seems stupid of these companies to make their older programs stop functioning, just because they are offering a newer, "better" version, which is many times, not true. Or, there is problems with the installation, and to much time passes before they could fix the issue, and you lose out on both programs.

I am not sure if the software company understands what this is supposed to be, a place where they can test their products with actual users and get feedback to help them improve the performance and the experience of the end user. Sure, many people are here only for the free software, and they don't have the technical ability to weed out all the good/bad code etc, but we can still offer ideas to improve the performance of a new/revised product, and should still be respected.

(notice I say we, I am no programmer, and can only offer small amounts of advice). Many times I install these programs for future use, at the time, I don't actually need them, but can see a need for them in the near/very near future)

For some reason, I have seen a lot of software being offered by this same company, and many times, the reviews/warnings are NOT very good. It would seem that they have not taken advantage of the advice they have received, and continue to operate in the same manner. Very strange for a company to use this platform, lose money on it, and ignore the words of warning that seem to always follow their offerings. I have decided on this basis ALONE, not to bother installing this product, or any other they offer in the future. If you refuse to learn from this site, why do you bother to use it?

On my box (win 7 x64 ultimate), I'm a regular user with administrator rights.

Notwithstanding, I got warned: "You must be logged in as an administrator when installing this program." meaning I should have launched the .exe by right-clicking "Run as administrator" ---yeah, Windows...

Usually, when a software requires admin rights, it's stated in the doc and you always can install it but it probably won't work as expected. Rarely --if ever-- it pops up such warning.

There is * not * a single reason for any GOTD to be granted admin rights at all. Or have the anti-virus disabled, as seen here from time to time.

QUESTION.....
I do not know Paint Shop Pro. WILL this program take a flower in the center of a field ( you ONLY want the flower and allow you to remove just the flower leaving everything around it and taking just the flower to use on something else..
Thanks for your time!

G, It will remove a flower from the middle of a field if you identify it as an unwanted object, but it doesn't remove it for use elsewhere.

Ootje, Honestly I have PSP but have not taken the time to "learn" all the tips and tricks needed just for this. There are some pictures I find I just want to remove an item from the picture and use it elsewhere. I have the eraser program to erase things from photo's but sometimes that smears the picture to a point you can't use the picture....I had hoped that this program might be able to remove a item from a picture that could be used elsewhere where you can save it on your computer and then use it with something else or place it on something else....I guess not.

I tried installing this on XP despite the "System Requirements: Windows 7/ 8/ 10" above.
The installation process completed, but when the program opened the error message "The procedure entry point InitializeCriticalSectionEx could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll" appeared, indicating incompatibility.
When I opened older SoftOrbits programs I had installed through GAOTD, they were shown as unregistered, and attempts to register them with the original serial number failed, so they still seem to be up to their old tricks.

SoftOrbits had a bad history of its software being deactivated automatically after some time and becomes unregistered as a typical trial.
I am not even going to try this.
But the question remains for other users:
Do you think this has been fixed?
Anyone who has tried SoftOrbits software the last 6-12 months, does it still works as registered?

Reply   |   Comment by Nektarios  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+64)

Reply   |   Comment by Peter  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

Nektarios, You may be right -- I just checked and saw I had installed this back in 2015 (no longer working) as well as in 2014 (no longer working), both these must have deactivated without my knowledge at different points in time.

Reply   |   Comment by Louis  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Nektarios,
I have read those comments too about Soft Orbits deactivating.
I have three soft orbits programs downloaded from GAOTD
Background Remover ( March 2017) , Photo Editor and Photo Retoucher.
I like these programs as they are intuitive, simple and effective which suits my ability and needs.
I have checked and all three are still registered as was the case was Soft Orbits programs downloaded onto my older computer.
I may be lucky or there may be some other factor relating to the software or some peoples computer setup as clearly from the comments some other people have found problems with this software but it is difficult for us to gauge whether they are the unlucky few or if it is a serious problem for most people although the high number of thumbs up gives a positive indication for the product.

Nektarios,
When it comes to Soft Orbits:
Typically, if the provided information on the upper right hand side of this page doesn't say it's a lifetime license then it probably isn't.

(At least it is the case in my two computers). So you can try this one at no risk if you like.

Nektarios,
Same things happen to ne with Softorbits. I even purchased their Digital Photo Suite and it de-activated itself. They need a new system to prevent this from happening, I think its their registry entries that screw up the licensees.
