I registered this software on the Giveaway day - on the 25 February 2020 - and now it is "UnRegistered" some two weeks later.
When I contacted the Company they asked if I had used a Computer Cleaner I said yes I had CCleaner.
They told me this is the reason why it is Not Registered ...
This is unconscionable they giveaway a product only to take it away ... I suppose they thought this may get people to pay for the Software ... deceptive practices

The Giveawayoftheday people should check before they offer software as this also does not reflect well on their offerings and their brand

This is a password REMOVER program, NOT a password cracker program. You have to have the password to the PDF in order for it to be removed by this program.

Installed in C:\ProgramFiles (X86)
Had to make the folder C:\Output
It crashes on exit "Run-time error 75"

Needs work.

installed ok on Vista except that it defaults to installing into:

C:\PDFPasswordRemover

Which is usually an indicator of an inexperienced windows software developer that has not gotten to grips with windows application security layers and data files correct locations.

I tried dragging and dropping PDF some PDFs I made with restriced rights and the program stripped the restrictions imediatly and wrote out an unrestricted copy of the PDF files then opened the output folder. I then tried it with a PDF with user password protection and supplied the correct password and it removed the encryption and other owner restrictions and wrote out a a completely unprotected copy of the file.

I also tried downloading the portable zip file from their website and extracted it to a folder and executed it and it apears to use the locally stored registration data from the installed build of the program. So it *probably* needs to activated on every machine it is moved around to.
BUT the portable build will not accept the giveaway license code, reporting it is invalid... yet if one activates the giveaway build on the same machine the portable build accepts the stored registration data. So the portable build does not activate the license in a portable manner.

The ease it removes restrictions on a PDF as well as strips off encryption if you know the password means I will keep this as tool that might be used once in a while.

TK,

Thank you, TK, for your very helpful comment.
P.S. I am happy to see you back here, because you were absent for some time, and I was very worried.

Cheers,

consuella

Very easy install. However there does not seem to be a way to change the default output path.

Reply   |   Comment by rww  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

rww, You have to click at the (very) small lower left address C:\xxxxx folder name. That will open your Windows Explorer. Choose a folder (or create one "before") and voilà! Your saved PDF files will be stored in that new folder.

Reply   |   Comment by Jackie  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

rww, sure you can... just oooo I see there is a bug... if one clicks on the output path link one can select a new output path and on exit that path IS saved into the setup.ini file for future use BUT on restarting that setup.ini value is NOT USED and it reverts to C:\Output path. The Setup.ini still contains the customised output path but it is not used by the program and on exit the default C:\Output path value is re-written into the setup.ini file if no other output path was selected in that session.

In theory one can make changes to the default C:\Output folder name within character count limitations by patching the PPR.exe file string at:

000C7F51 C:\Output

But doing so will break the dual hash digital signature used to confirm executable integrity.

TK, yeah, it seems to be hardcoded. Changing the path in the .INI file it generates does nothing. It's REALLY annoying.

Reply   |   Comment by DD  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Jackie,

Yes you can change it for that session but the default on loading the program remains the same. Not a huge problem, but poor programming.

Reply   |   Comment by rww  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Jackie, that only apears to work but the saved setting is NOT re-used when the program is restarted, it reverts to C:\Output
Everytime the program is started hence rww saying they could not find a way to change the "default output path"
The method you describe only changes the CURRENT output path.

Fast, small download; flawless install and registration if you read the "read me" file after extracting the files in the zip.

Looks interesting. Some questions:
1. Is the portable version from the maker's website already free, or do we need to link it to the GAOTD version somehow?
2. If we need to connect it to today's free GAOTD version,m how do we do that?
3. Who is the maker, and where is he?
Thanks.

Reply   |   Comment by glnz  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

glnz, the portable build is functionaly the same except it won't accept the giveaway key to register it on a NEW machine. If one has already registered the giveaway build on that new machine the portable build accepts the stored registration data from that machine. I do not see any operational difference between the portable and installed editions appart from the installer creating uninstaller and start menu and other shortcuts as selected. So I suspect you can safely copy default C:\PDFPasswordRemover\ folder contents to a USB thumb drive and copy over the readme.txt file and use that as a loosely "portable" edition and register it whenever you move to a new machine.

I just downloaded the program and did a trial run and it worked perfectly.

I foresee myself using this on pdf forms that in the past I needed to print, fill out by hand, scan, and send back. It will save on paper and ink as I will be able to fill those forms on the computer. YAY.

Thank you.

Disappointing that the portable isn't available. So many computers have very limited storage now.

Come off it. Very few devices are limited for storage space any more.

Mark, You mean modern computers cannot install this because of the 6MB install file size? Not TB, but MB....

Thanks for the laugh

benasp, Foolish. No, with a small m.2 drive, every bit is precious. Installing seldom used utilities on a removable USB is a key way to preserve space. Are you using this daily? Why would you want it on permanent storage?

Mark, Only Chromebooks. 500 Gb and 1Tb is the norm now for Windows.

Downloaded and installed it. First, I was surprised that it worked, but it does work on simple PDF "passworded" documents that I didn't know their password.

The website offers a Portable app. Do I have to install the GAOTD file before installing the portable version? I tried it and it seems to work, and I didn't have to insert a serial no.

When closing the program, I get an error message: Run Time error 75 Path/File access error. Program installed OK and seems to run OK. Not sure why the message appears.

Reply   |   Comment by DeltaVee  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

DeltaVee, I get the same error every time as well. I'm using this version from a previous giveaway, and it throws that error every single time I close it. But it seems to work on some PDF files.

Glad to see this again as I lost my previous version when I upgraded my computer. This will not remove "Open" passwords required to open a PDF, but WILL remove passwords required to edit a PDF.
I wish it would remember the output path that I select. Also, the window to select the output path is rather dated; you can't just paste in a path or create a folder. You have to navigate to the existing folder you want to use.

Ray, I was able to remove the 'open' password on my files with the old version I had and this new version. You just have to know said password beforehand

Obtained it from another giveaway site last June. It "does what it says on the tin". Used it to remove passwords from credit Card statements so they could be opened, copied to USB stick and printed out by someone who has a printer.
