The PDF format is ideal for presenting and sharing complex texts, diagrams, graphics and forms. However, PDF files are therefore often very extensive, which in turn is actually a knockout criterion for sharing.

With PDF-compress you can optimize your PDF files so that they do not take up more storage space than absolutely necessary. Depending on the structure and content of the PDF document, compression rates of up to 95% can be achieved. In a test with over 1,000 randomly selected PDF files from different sources, an average compression rate of almost 50% was achieved.

You can also use the free PDFGear. mikiem2 mentioned that freeware to open and edit pdf's. But it also a an option to compress pdf's. When I tested both the goveraway and PDFGear, my conclusion is that PDFGear compresses better.

Weird. I finally realized it had posted some of the numbers but not the last 3. Seems to be working but is still an unmovable window with hard to get at taps,...

Refused to install completely with the number they sent me, the long one didn't work,... and as it is, the program has connection points below the screen and does not allow the screen size to change for the program. Not good. the idea for getting a smaller pdf is a good idea,....

registers several .NET components via separate executable GdPictureComReg.exe after installation but from what I can see it does not unregister them on uninstall meaning it leaves .NET references to the deleted .NET components in the system which is bad practice. Should explicitly unregister components before the standard Inno uninstaller deletes the files!

How does the pdf get decompressed? Does the document received need this program to decompress?

Reply   |   Comment by Peter  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Peter, The compressed file can be opened like any other PDF. It appears it mostly compresses the size and perhaps resolution of any images, etc in the original file. Still a PDF just, hopefully, smaller for ease of handling.

"How does the pdf get decompressed?"

The most common part, used by every PDF compression app or web site, is to compress any images, removing any transparency etc. at the same time. Many [most?] remove redundant instructions related to the layout or display of the PDF's contents & remove white space, optimizing that end of things. If the PDF has embedded fonts, bookmarks, links, scripts, actionable forms etc., those may also go away. If the PDF contains vector graphics, they may be simplified / optimized. They are not compressed however, the same way as when you Zip a file, so they can be viewed the same ways as the original PDF.

1% reduction in file size... with default settings, works best with scanned to PDF raster files but not with content that has selectable text as well as sensibly sized images and graphics.

It's a 6 month license. What will happen afterwards?

Reply   |   Comment by M. H.  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

M. H., I would also like to know. I hope it means just what it says, which is that "free updates and technical support" ends in 6 months, and that we will then be using the program with no further updates. I hope they answer your question though.

"It's a 6 month license. What will happen afterwards?"

I'd expect it will be the same as on day 15 of their 14 day trial, though unfortunately they don't say on their site [that I could find] exactly what that means. Like other software trials it might limit or remove some functions, display nag screens, or cease to work altogether.

M. H., "Licence details:

unlimited with free updates and technical support for six months"

So, you can use it forever and a day. But during six months you get free updates and free technical support.

M. H., should revert to an expired 14 day trial... i.e. not allow functionality, you could have wound date forward 7months and discovered for yourself... some do that when they want to know, it usually works unless the program checks some web server for date.
